One day, a firefighter named Mr. Morales came to a classroom. He was wearing full gear. The students were very curious. After he lifted his mask, the children saw his friendly face. He invited the class to visit his house to learn about coastal safety.
Soon the students arrived at the Morales family’s home near the coast. The house looked special. It was built high on strong beams (梁). Ms. Morales explained that hurricanes sometimes bring a lot of water. When flooding happens, the water can pass under the house. This design helps keep the house safe.
The students also noticed heavy metal shutters (护窗) on the windows. Mr. Morales told them that strong winds during a hurricane can break glass windows. Broken glass can hurt people. The shutters help protect the windows and keep the family safe.
Later, dark clouds filled the sky and strong winds began to blow outside. Mr. and Ms. Morales quickly asked everyone to go inside the house. It was dark for a moment, but Ms. Morales turned on a generator (发电机). Soon the lights came on again.

In many schools today, students spend most of their time sitting in classrooms, listening to teachers and doing exercises from books. This way of learning is important, but some educators believe students can learn better through real experience. In the U.K., a different kind of school called a Studio School tries to change how students learn.
Studio Schools are for teenagers from 14 to 19 years old. These schools combine (融合) academic learning with practical training for future jobs. Students still study academic subjects like English, math, and science, but they also take part in real-life projects. In fact, a large part of their learning happens outside the traditional classroom. Students often work in teams and sometimes visit or work with local businesses. Through these activities, they learn how to solve problems, communicate with others, and use their knowledge in real situations.
Another special point of Studio Schools is the support students receive. These schools are smaller than many traditional schools, usually with about 300 students. Because of this, teachers can pay more attention to each student. Every student also has a personal coach (导师) who helps make a learning plan and set clear goals. With these goals, students often feel more confident and work harder.
Reports show that many students improve after moving to a Studio School. Some students who did not do well in traditional schools begin to enjoy learning again. The idea is simple: students learn best when they work together and learn by doing.
Today, this idea is becoming more popular in different places, and it may help schools develop better ways to educate students in the future.

A.There are only 300 students.
B.To reduce the cost of education.
C.There are fewer personal coaches.
D.To provide more focus on each student.
39.What happened to some students after moving to a Studio School
A.They stopped academic learning.
B.They had personal coaches for each subject.
C.They worked with local businesses every day.
D.They improved a lot and enjoyed learning more.
40.Which of the following could be the best title for the passage
A.The Future of Schools B.Learning by Doing

A few years ago, I went camping in Redwood Park with my best friend, Jack. On our first day, we bought some food. We didn’t want to stay on the campsite, so instead we walked through the forest to find somewhere else to camp. It got dark early and we were a bit lost so we decided to camp in the middle of the forest. That night, it was really dark and I felt a bit scared, but Jack and I made a fire and sang some songs. It was a quiet night and we slept well.
The next morning, we were hungry so we made our breakfast. But before we ate it, we went to the river. We had a wash and got some fresh water then walked back to our tent. When we got back to the tent, we saw a big brown bear. We didn’t move or make a noise. We watched the bear as it sat in our tent and ate all of our breakfast. After that it walked off into the forest with our bags.

书面表达范文:
Dear Peter,
I have something special to tell you. Last Friday, our school held an earthquake safety training.
First, the teacher told us what to do in an earthquake. When the first alarm rang, we quickly hid under our desks and held the legs. When the second alarm rang, we rushed out of the classroom one by one and went to the playground. We didn’t push or run. We all followed the teacher’s orders.
I learned a lot from this training. Now I know how to protect myself in an earthquake. It’s really useful.
Yours,
Li Hua
