My mother is not perfect, and our relationship has had its good and bad times, but I have always admired her kindness — she would even give her own shirt to someone in need. When my parents broke up, I was only two. As a stay-at-home mom who’d never worked outside, she had to start working, sometimes two tiring jobs, to support my brother, sister and me. She often put herself last to make sure we had warm clothes, enough food and school supplies we needed, not just the toys we wanted.
Mom always told us: no matter how hard our life was, others had it worse. Even when life was difficult, she shared what we had with others and showed her kindness. I still remember when I was in primary school, my friend’s family had serious money troubles, and I thought she wouldn’t get any Christmas gifts. My mom secretly bought a bag of toys and left it for her at the school office, and she still gave us a great Christmas with nice gifts too.
In middle school, she paid for my best friend’s class trip when her family couldn’t afford it. She also made extra food for sick neighbors, donated dyed Easter eggs to a church she didn’t attend, and left small gifts for a poor woman in our church every week. Most of her kind acts were done without letting others know who did them.
Her kindness has become a precious family legacy. My sister, brother and I all learn from her, helping others quietly and sincerely. Now that we are parents, our own kids are also picking up this kind habit, often sharing their toys with classmates in need.
24. What can be inferred about my mom from paragraph 1
A.She only helped people she knew well.
B.She cared more about her kids than herself.
C.She became rich because she took two jobs.

26. Why did Mom keep her kindness in secret
A.She wanted to avoid trouble.
B.She was afraid of being laughed at.
C.She thought the gifts were not good enough.
D.She just wanted to help others from her heart.
27. What does the underlined word “legacy” in Paragraph 4 probably mean
A.A secret
B.A bad habit
C.A difficult task
D.Something passed down

If you are one of Velvet Sundown’s adoring fans, seeing them perform in a city is going to be impossible.
After releasing two albums, which have earned the group 1.2 million listeners on a major streaming platform, the folk-country music “band” showed itself to be an AI creation — everything from their music to their images and background.
In a post on a platform from Velvet Sundown’s official account, the poster wrote, “The Velvet Sundown is a synthetic (合成的) music project guided by human creative direction, and composed, voiced, and visualized with the support of AI. This isn’t a trick — it’s a mirror; an ongoing artistic provocation (挑衅) designed to challenge the boundaries of authorship, identity, and the future of music itself in the age of AI.”
The post went on to state, “All characters, music, voices and lyrics are original creations created with the assistance of AI tools. Any similarity to actual places, events, or persons — living or deceased — is accidental and unintentional. Not quite machine.”
Currently, streaming platforms are under no legal duty to identify AI-created work. This raises concerns over consumer transparency (透明度) and infringing(侵害) on the works of the human bands that the AI was trained on, experts said. Sophie Jones, the chief strategy officer of the British Phonographic Industry, said that the organization was calling on law makers to protect copyright and introduce new transparency duties to AI companies so that music rights could be licensed and enforced, as well as calling for the clear labeling of content only created by AI.
Jones added, “The rise of AI-created bands and music entering the market shows that tech companies have been training AI models using creative works — largely without agreement or payment to creators or rights-holders — in order to directly compete with human art.”
The Velvet Sundown is not just a band. It’s a warning sign for the future of music. It emphasizes the urgent need for industry transparency and copyright protection as AI reshapes music’s future.
28. What can we know about Velvet Sundown
A.It has attracted many listeners online.
B.It has held many live shows in cities.
C.It has hired real folk-country musicians.
D.It has created its own streaming platform.
29. What did Velvet Sundown’s official post state about itself
A.Its creation relies on AI.
B.Its works are from real life.
C.It wants to cheat the listeners.
D.Its members are real musicians.
30. What is Sophie Jones’s attitude towards AI-created music
A.Approving
B.Optimistic
C.Critical
D.Satisfied
31. What is the main idea of the passage
A.AI music bands are very creative.
B.AI music brings copyright and transparency problems.
C.Streaming platforms face legal problems with AI music.
D.Human musicians have lost competition with AI bands.

Determining the right amount of vitamin D to take is far from simple. This nutrient is key for bone health, yet taking too much or too little both bring risks, and experts have clear guidance on who needs supplements and how much to take.
Vitamin D is mainly made by the skin when exposed to sunlight and can also be found in foods with added vitamins like dairy and fatty fish. Its main job is to help the body absorb calcium, so low levels cause bone problems: rickets (佝偻病) in kids and osteoporosis (骨质疏松症) in adults. Severe shortage (blood levels below 12 ng/mL) is common worldwide — 30% in some sunny Middle Eastern countries (due to traditional clothing) and 20% in the UK (due to cloudy weather and lack of foods with added vitamins) — while the US has only a 6% severe shortage rate thanks to food enrichment.
Official daily recommendations are modest: 400 IU for babies, 600 IU for people up to 70, and 800 IU for those over 70. Most people can get this through short daily sun exposure (5-10 minutes) or a balanced diet. Supplements are only needed for high-risk groups: breastfed infants, the elderly, pregnant women, people with dark skin, and those in northern latitudes in winter. For those concerned about low levels, 1,000 IU a day is enough, and vitamin D3 is better than D2. High doses (5,000 IU or more) must be avoided, as they can cause sickness, kidney failure and worse bone health.
While early studies suggested high-dose vitamin D might fight heart disease or cancer, large experiments show no such benefits for healthy people with adequate levels. The body tightly controls vitamin D production, so more is not better. Small signs show higher doses may help with cancer spread and diseases where the body attacks itself for some healthy-weight people, but more research is needed. For now, the key rule is clear: take a proper amount — no more, no less.
32. What is the main function of vitamin D
A.It strengthens skin against UV.
B.It helps the body take in calcium.
C.It prevents all bone-related diseases.
D.It improves kidney function directly.
33. Why is severe vitamin D shortage rare in the US
A.It adds vitamin D to dairy.
B.It has rich natural sunlight.
C.People reject traditional clothing.
D.People take enough supplements.
34. Which group needs vitamin D supplements most
A.Adults over 70 in all seasons.
B.Healthy young people in sunny places.
C.Dark-skinned people in northern areas.
D.Light-skinned pregnant women in summer.
35. Which can be the best title for the text
A.Vitamin D: Balance the Intake Amount.
B.Vitamin D Supplements: a Must for Health.
C.How to Get Vitamin D Naturally and Safely.
D.High Doses of Vitamin D Bring No Benefits.

One Monday morning, John Evans, a ragged boy in oversized hand-me-downs and worn-out shoes, shuffled (拖着脚走) into our second-grade class in a small North Carolina town. As the son of migrant apple pickers who barely earned enough to feed their family, he stood awkwardly while Mrs. Parmele introduced him to us. Whispers of disapproval drifted across the room; no one returned his smile, but he kept grinning anyway. I held my breath, hoping he wouldn’t sit next to me—yet the teacher pointed him to the empty desk beside mine, and I looked away to avoid seeming friendly.
By the end of the first week, John was the least popular in the class. I even told my mother it was “his own fault” for “not knowing how to count.” But one day, when he asked to sit with me at lunch, I reluctantly agreed. As I listened to his chatter and watched him eat, I realized our mocking of him was unjustified—he was pleasant to be around and by far the most cheerful boy I knew. We played together on the playground after lunch, and I resolved to be his friend.
That night, I told Mom John’s birthday was the next day, and he would get nothing: no cake, no presents, no celebration. Mother and I both knew that whenever a kid had a birthday, their mom would bring cupcakes and party favors for the class. Between my birthday and my sister’s, Mom had made several such trips over the years. But John’s mother worked all day on the farm, and his special day would likely go unnoticed. Mom kissed me good night and said softly, “I’m sure everything will turn out fine.”
The next morning, I said “Happy birthday” to him. His embarrassed smile showed he was grateful. Yet as the day went on, it seemed his special day would still receive no care at all— no cupcakes, no party favors, nothing but a simple greeting from me. My heart ached for him.

Dear Editor,
I’m writing to share my experience of changing unhealthy living habits.
I used to be addicted to electronic products, spending most spare time scrolling through videos, which made me tired and weak. Later I made up my mind to change. I limited screen time to half an hour daily and took up jogging and reading instead.
Now I feel energetic and focus better on study. I hope my story can inspire more teenagers to keep a healthy lifestyle.
Yours,
Li Hua
六、读后续写范文
Then from the hallway came a familiar voice singing the birthday song. It was my mom, carrying a big box of cupcakes and colorful party gifts. She walked straight to John’s desk and laid out everything. The whole class gathered around, singing loudly. John’s eyes were filled with tears of joy. He thanked Mom repeatedly and shared sweet cupcakes with every classmate happily.
The next day, I noticed a change in the other kids. No one whispered about John’s worn clothes any longer. Many classmates took the initiative to invite him to play games and share snacks at break time. Warm friendship surrounded John from then on. I learned true kindness can break prejudice and bring warmth to everyone around us.
