On Monday, April 14,2025, the company Blue Origin sent its spaceship (宇宙飞船) RSS Kármán Line on a ten-minute trip into space. This spaceship carried the first all-female group to go into space. Before this, only Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova went to space alone in 1963.
The spaceship took off from Texas on Monday morning for a flight that would last just 10minutes and 21 seconds. That may not sound much like a trip into space, but the spaceship reached a height of 66 miles above sea level. That is well above the Kármán line, which is generally considered the edge of space. The Kármán line is 62 miles above sea level.
The New Shepard system used in Monday’s flight is designed for “space tourism”. The flight carried six women into space. It’s the first time since 1963 that an all-female crew (机组人员) has gone into space. Each of the passengers is well-known in her field. Though the six women were officially the “crew” of the mission, the spaceship flew completely by itself. None of the women had any duties on the flight.
Although the spaceflight marked a historic milestone in some ways, it has faced some criticism (指责). Many argued that the trip was a waste of money. They said it was just a big advertisement for Blue Origin. Other people pointed out that over 100 women have already gone to space—not just for a joyride, but to do actual work.
But some people have also defended the trip, saying it sends a significant message. Aisha Bowe, an aerospace (航空航天) engineer who used to work for NASA, says it’s important for young people to get a sense of what’s possible. She said in high school she was encouraged to get a job of doing makeup. Instead, she earned two degrees in aerospace engineering. She says the trip “is bigger than the criticism.”
4. What can we learn about Blue Origin’s trip into space
A.It lasted shorter than scheduled.
B.No pilots were in the spaceship.
C.All passengers were space experts.
D.It was funded by a Russian company.
5. What do many people question about Blue Origin’s spaceflight
A.Its real purpose.
B.Its selection of passengers.
C.Its safety for the group.
D.Its influence on space tourism.
6. What does Aisha Bowe think of the space trip
A.Meaningless.
B.Smooth.
C.Inspiring.
D.Costly.
7. What does the passage mainly talk about

B.The achievement of Blue Origin in space.
C.The New Shephard system’s first test flight.
D.Women have played a role in space exploration.

“There’s nothing more truly artistic than to love people,” said the famous painter Vincent van Gogh. He means that the highest form of art lies not in painting brushes but in our ability to truly love and appreciate others. The spirit of that comment might undergird new research findings that show spending just 30 minutes in an arts and culture museum has a number of positive mental health benefits, including measurably reducing the stress hormone (激素).
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania reviewed more than 100 studies that explore the emotional experience of visiting a museum, and Katherine Cotter, a postdoctoral researcher, found out that museum visits produce mental health benefits. “When we enter a museum, we’re entering it with a purpose,” Cotter told the PBS station.
Visiting a museum, she added, draws us away from the time and place where we live and pulls us into the experience of seeing the world through another person’s eyes. “We have different mindsets and different cognitive (认知的)processes,” she said. “Once we get into the center of the museum visit, we see ourselves more concerned communally (共同地), thinking about how things are connected in the world more broadly.”
Walking through an art museum, large or small, is about more than spending time in a cool, quiet and interesting space. Notably, Cotter identified a reduction in feelings of loneliness as one of the mental health benefits of visiting art museums.
Part of the reason for this could be the communal experience of observing artworks together with other like-minded individuals. But it is also the art itself that brings us into a feeling of connection with other human beings — creators, thinkers, observers — who remind us that each of us has a point of view, something to say and something to teach and learn from the world around us.
And so we return to van Gogh’s observation. Perhaps we benefit from broadening our view of the world by exploring art and culture, in part, because the experience of being human is in itself just that — an art form.
8. What does the underlined word “undergird” mean in paragraph 1
A.Challenge.
B.Change.
C.Ignore.
D.Support.
9. How did researchers at the University of Pennsylvania conduct the research
A.By visiting different museums.
B.By reviewing previous studies.
C.By doing mental experiments.
D.By presenting mental health benefits.
10. According to Katherine Cotter, what happens when we visit a museum
A.We become more self-centered.
B.We stop thinking about our daily lives.
C.We observe the world in different views.
D.We show great interest in art and culture.
11. What is the best title of the text
A.Museum Visit Is the Best Emotional Experience
B.Changing Your Worldview Can Change Your Life
C.Museums Create Environments for Better Learning
D.Visiting an Art Museum Is Good for Mental Health

People with Alzheimer’s disease and their families often require support. According to a report, one in nine people aged 65 and older has the disease. With that in mind, CrossSense, a British technology company, has developed AI-driven smart glasses designed for these people. Using a camera built into the frame (框), the glasses can identify and label (贴标签) objects directly. They also feature an AI assistant, which can gently ask questions, provide reminders, and adapt to a user’s needs.
The AI helps those with Alzheimer’s disease remember the order of steps and label the things they are looking at. This can give patients a sense of confidence while also making things easier for those who care for them.
According to CrossSense, the glasses will check in with the user about items (事项) on their schedule, such as daily plans and medicines. They can also help users remember the names and appearances of people they often meet. The glasses can keep track of conversations users have had, along with objects they’ve met throughout the day. The built-in battery allows the glasses to operate for an hour, but a portable (便携式的) power bank can keep it working throughout the day.
The technology is still being carefully tested to ensure safety and quality, but it has already made an impression. CrossSense hopes to make the glasses available to the public by 2027.
For the few patients with Alzheimer’s disease who have tested these smart glasses, the support the glasses provide has been game-changing. Carole Greig, an Alzheimer’s patient and smart glasses tester, said, “How amazing that we can be given some more independence, that we’re going to be able to manage on our own.”
Dr. Rab Nawaz, a scientist in the UK, said, “These glasses could help by labeling things, giving step-by-step tips, and reducing worry when a user can’t do what they want. However, my biggest concern is overpromising. These glasses are exciting, but they are not a treatment for Alzheimer’s and they will not work equally well for every patient.”
With continued testing over time, there will hopefully be further advances in both technology and medicine to support patients with Alzheimer’s disease now and in the future.
12. Why did CrossSense create the AI smart glasses
A.To treat Alzheimer’s disease.
B.To help Alzheimer’s patients live better.
C.To replace family caregivers.
D.To track the elderly’s health conditions.
13. What is the third paragraph mainly about
A.The glasses’ production cost.
B.The glasses’ battery system.
C.The glasses’ testing process.
D.The glasses’ main functions.
14. What do we know about the glasses from the text
A.They are not ready to be used yet.
B.They require a human helper to operate.
C.They can work all day with battery alone.
D.They have been proven to work for most patients.
15. What is Dr. Rab Nawaz’s attitude toward the glasses
A.Hopeful.
B.Disappointed.
C.Objective.
D.Uninterested.

I really liked Julia from my first day of high school. As a shy freshman, I watched her with quiet admiration. She laughed easily and drew classmates to her like a magnet (磁铁). Julia spoke confidently in class, making complex (复杂的) topics sound simple. I wished I could be that outgoing. I wanted to be her friend, but didn’t know how to start. Every time I thought about talking to her, my words got stuck. Would someone so popular want to be friends with someone like me I practiced greetings before my mirror, but they never sounded right. Her world seemed too bright for me to enter.
Everything changed last Friday during an English class. Julia gave a speech that moved everyone. Her voice was clear and her stories were wonderful. Feeling brave, I wrote her a note during break: “Your speech was amazing! I really want to be your friend. From Mary.” When the bell rang, I saw her packing her bag. “Julia,” I said nervously, “this is for you.” I handed her the note. She smiled and said “Thank you”, then quickly put it in her English book before hurrying to her next class.
Two weeks passed without any reply. I felt sad and confused. Did I do something wrong Was my note not good enough Finally, I decided to ask her directly. “Hi,” I said quietly, “did you get my note ” She looked up, surprised. A faint blush spread across her cheeks. She quickly searched her English textbook but failed to find the note. She frowned, trying hard to recall where she had placed it. I lowered my head, too disappointed to say another word. I thought she ignored me on purpose and there was no chance for us to become friends. Seeing my sadness, Julia comforted me softly and promised to look for the note carefully after class.
“Oh, Mary! It was all a misunderstanding!” Julia explained, her voice filled with apology. She told me she lent that textbook to her deskmate last week and totally forgot the note inside. She felt sorry for making me wait so long. Then she held my hand warmly and said she also wanted to make friends with me. We chatted happily in the library and planned to study together later. At that moment, all my nervousness and sadness disappeared. I finally gained a warm friend I had admired for a long time.
