Best Family-Friendly Art Galleries in London
Whitechapel Gallery
Whitechapel Gallery has long played an important role in providing access to art for its nearby community and beyond. As well as education projects, every summer the Children’s Commission challenges an artist to create new works to specifically engage with children aged 4 to 12. It is the Crib Notes session that makes it stand out from the crowd, but advanced booking is a must.
Tate Modern
Tate Modern is a fantastic option for art-loving parents who are seeking to introduce their children to modern art in a relaxing and inspiring environment. For families with younger children, the Turbine Hall provides a welcome space. For those seeking a more organized visit, there are various activities during weekends and school holidays.
SPACE
Established in the 1960s, SPACE manages to focus on providing affordable creative workspace for young promising artists. The main gallery is a casual fair, making it less of a gallery and more of a great local option for families who want to see what’s on offer on their way to or from nearby London Fields.
Pitzhanger Manor & Gallery
Due to its fascinating history, the free monthly tour helps to bring the many rooms of the house to life for young visitors. However, a self-guided expedition of the house is attractive. As well as artist-led workshops for schools, the gallery is hugely popular with families of pre-school children and regular talks for all ages are the best worth looking out for.

Kurth Reis of San Francisco, California, had been through many hard times in his life. In 2021, Reis had a serious motorcycle accident. He had several medical operations. Reis said he felt like he was “reborn” each time he woke after an operation. After 88 days in the hospital, Reis went home and felt ready to change his ways.
Lately, he says he just wants to make people happy by making bubbles (泡泡). People can watch him perform his bubble art for hours at a time around the city’s streets and in parks. Sometimes he puts out a glass container called a tip jar. People who watch his show can drop money into it if they want to.
If the weather is good for bubbles, Reis makes a special mixture that can make bubbles the size of a small car. Humidity (潮湿), is good for bubbles, so he does not perform on very hot days. To make his large bubble, he puts a small rope hanging from two long sticks into the bubble mixture (泡泡液). As he opens his arms wide and the bubble begins to form. Once enough air is inside the bubble, he moves his arms back together to set the bubble free. Some people feel it looks like a bubble “ballet.”
While Reis may seem like a bubble-making expert, he only got started in 2023. Reis has made some money from crowds that watch him perform. But money is not what encourages him to make bubbles. He feels his art is useful in more important ways. Not long ago, a woman spoke to Reis after a performance, he said. She told him that his bubbles had lifted her spirit when her dad died.
Reis can see smiles rise on the faces of those watching him perform. Children cheer and clap their hands. Reis said such reactions make him feel like an essential worker whose job is to spread joy.

It’s no secret that any type of tobacco (烟草) use is not healthy. But for most people, it is hard to quit. That is because most of them started the habit as teenagers and because tobacco contains nicotine. “Nicotine is a highly addictive, very powerful drug,” said Dr. Kimberly Horn, Associate Dean of Research at the George Washington University Milken School of Public Health.
Dr. Horn said teens are likely to use more than one form of tobacco. It could be cigarettes, small cigars, or smokeless tobacco. And teens who smoke are likely to use electronic cigarettes, which also deliver nicotine.
There is no one technique for quitting that works for everyone. Some turn to e-cigarettes for help. Cici, one of the smokers participating in the program, is hoping electronic cigarettes can help her kick the habit.
“When I tried it for the first time, I said, ‘Oh, that’s almost as good as smoking,’” she said. “And then I realized there were so many benefits, and I realized it was better than smoking.”
Studies show electronic devices work for some people, but not for others. Behavior therapy and medication and products that reduce nicotine desire like gum and nicotine patches (贴片) might help.
Dr. Nancy Rigotti at Massachusetts General Hospital and other researchers designed a program to help smokers quit while they were in the hospital and stay smoke-free after they were discharged (获准出院).
Some patients were given a nicotine patch or medication and counsel in the hospital, with follow-up support after they left. “We know that medication works and that counsel works, but they work much better together than either one alone,” Rigotti said. Seventy percent of smokers in that program were still smoke-free six months after leaving the hospital.
The U.S. government and private companies have been running anti-smoking campaigns since 1964 when the U.S. Surgeon General produced his first report on smoking and health. Since then, there have been reports on how smoking affects women, young people and various diseases, including diabetes and cancer.
33. Why is it hard to quit smoking
A.Smoking can help people feel energetic quickly.
B.There are too many forms of tobacco.
C.Smoking can comfort one who is annoyed.
D.Nicotine in tobacco is extremely addictive.
34. Which may be useless for people wanting to quit smoking

DeepSeek was a name that, until recently, was unknown even to the most enthusiastic followers of AI technology. It has rapidly become a household name, shocking the world with its powerful AI chatbot, an unexpected achievement from Asia as the world continues to adopt this revolutionary technology.
Widely used across China as a virtual assistant and source of quick information, DeepSeek has become an overnight hit, with young people increasingly turning to the chatbot for therapy and mental health support, creating a new cultural phenomenon.
What has sparked global interest in particular is that it has been produced for just a small amount of the cost of its Western rivals, such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
The surprising popularity of DeepSeek has affected international markets, causing share prices of chip company Nvidia to drop dramatically and causing a wake-up call for Western AI firms.
DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng, like many other Big Tech CEOs, has an academic background from a top university. He graduated in computer science and electronic information engineering from Zhejiang University and also has experience in finance. Liang’s background has positioned DeepSeek to compete effectively with US rivals like ChatGPT, influencing stock markets and shaking confidence among industry leaders.
DeepSeek was created at just a small amount of the cost, casting doubt on the value of high-performance chips needed for such technology. Chip makers like Nvidia saw their share prices fall sharply as a result. DeepSeek’s cost-effective power comes from an efficient technique called Reinforcement Learning, or RL, a machine learning method that allows AI to learn and make decisions through trial and error to achieve the most suitable results.
Despite DeepSeek’s initial success, it is important that a country’s self-dependence does not lead to technological isolationism (孤立主义). Sam Altman, CEO of US-based OpenAI, stated in a recent interview that he would like to work with China. Progressing such an important technology together is not only beneficial for both parties but also ensures that regulation (监管) of AI’s power can be carried out with universal standards. Open-source community learning could also help other nations advance their AI development. India has fallen behind China and the US in the AI race, with problems ranging from lack of capital, with a mere $1 billion compared to $500 billion in the US Stargate project, to a diverse range of languages that all need high-quality data sets.
37. Which can replace the underlined word “rivals” in paragraph 3
A.Competitors.
B.Consumers.
C.Organizers.
D.Discoverers.
38. Why is ChatGPT mentioned in the fifth paragraph
A.DeepSeek can be competitive with ChatGPT.
B.DeepSeek has got assistance from ChatGPT.
C.ChatGPT and DeepSeek share some resources.
D.ChatGPT and DeepSeek have influenced stock markets.
39. How can DeepSeek affect the chip industry
A.More chips will be needed.
B.Chips may become cheaper.
C.Chips must be much smaller.
D.Making chips will become more complex.
40. What can be a suitable title for the article
A.DeepSeek Shakes Confidence among Industry Leaders
B.DeepSeek’s Cost-effective Power Comes from RL
C.DeepSeek Inspires Global AI Cooperation
D.DeepSeek Needs to Develop in China

When Linda was very young, she loved writing poems and dreamed about being a poet. But her dream didn’t come true. After her father died in her teens, life kept throwing new responsibilities at Linda. She had to look after her younger brothers and sisters. Then came kids after her getting married, and then the kids’ kids. She spent most of her life taking care of her family. And in her closet, Linda locked all her poems, her talent, and also her dream of reading her poems on stage.
One Sunday, Linda was joyfully cooking in the kitchen because her children and grandchildren were going to visit her. Although doctors told her not to take stress, she spent five hours preparing nice food for them! After lunch that day, Linda sat with her 10-year-old grandson, Mark. And she said, “Honey, can you fetch me the family album from my closet Let’s take a look together.”
While searching for the album, Mark discovered many pieces of paper there. He came running and said, “Grandma! Are these yours Do you write poems ” Linda replied, “Oh, I did it in the past. I wanted to read them on stage one day, but I never had the opportunity. You see, I have two wonderful sons and many lovely grandchildren. I got busy in the past. Anyway, forget about that.”
But Mark didn’t. Days later, his school announced that there would be a talent show and that kids’ grandparents could also participate in it. Mark immediately signed his grandma up for the show. When visiting his grandma again, Mark told her the news and said, “Grandma, you can finally stand on stage and read your poems!” Linda said in tears, “I'm too old! I will get nervous.” But Mark believed that his grandma would be the best poet. With his encouragement, Linda agreed and decided to read a humorous poem written by herself.
Mark’s support didn’t end up there. He told Linda’s story to Joseph, the father of one of his classmates, who worked as an editor for a local newspaper. And he asked whether Joseph could publish his grandma’s old poems and invite her to write new ones for the newspaper. Joseph smiled, “Well, if your grandma’s poems in the talent show prove good, I’ll talk about it with her.”

七、读后续写范文
Linda was expecting the upcoming show. Days before the talent show, she kept practicing her poem again and again to ease her nervousness. Mark accompanied her every day, cheering her up and telling her she was absolutely brilliant. When the day of the show arrived, Linda stood nervously backstage, her hands trembling slightly. But as she saw Mark waving at her from the audience, all her fear faded away. She walked onto the stage calmly and read her humorous poem in soft but clear voice. The whole hall burst into warm laughter and loud applause the moment she finished.
Joseph was deeply impressed with Linda's poem. He went up to Linda right after the show and praised her genuine, touching words. He invited Linda to submit more of her old poems to the newspaper and offered her a regular column to create new works. Linda could hardly believe her long-lost dream finally came true. With the encouragement of her grandson and Joseph, she picked up her pen again, writing poems to share warmth and ordinary beauty with all readers.
