First they made a volcano shape with the cardboard, and then they covered the shape in brown and red clay.

A woman who lost one leg to cancer is trying to break a world record. She plans to complete 102 marathon-length (马拉松长度的) runs in 102 days.
Jacky Hunt-Broersma lost the bottom half of her left leg to cancer in 2001. She set her goal in mid-January. Every day since then, she has been running the distance of a marathon. “Part of my body was gone. For me the biggest struggle (挣扎) was accepting my disability (残疾),” she told the reporter.

Going back to school can be an anxious time for many students. But one institution in Texas is doing its part to make sure middle schoolers are returning refreshed and inspired to learn.
Through a process called the "bathroom inspiration project," teachers and administrators at Warren Middle School, spent their summer beautifying the school's restrooms by painting motivational murals (壁画) on each of the stalls (小隔间).Forming messages like "Your mistakes don't define you" and "Scatter (撒播) kindness," the brightly colored words are exactly what a young student needs to see when having a rough day-or any school day for that matter. And now that classes are officially in session, people are already noticing a positive impact.
Since posting photos of upgrades to the school in July, Principal Joshua Garcia says that the alterations have aroused a great response.
"Students have been talking about the murals from the moment the pictures had been posted. Some even took the time to find a reason to come up to the campus to see the murals," he says."I think what makes this small little action so valuable is that it has set the tone for our campus."
And not only is that important to students, parents, and fellow staff, but it is also vital for the school's new principal, who is trying to gain the trust of the community during a time in which trust is so necessary for schools.
"Being new to the campus, I think the parents were able to see how much I value their children and have their best interest at heart,” Garcia continues. “I have had many parents tell me how they can just feel a difference in the campus climate and how much they are enjoying seeing their children wanting to come here. These murals have put trust back in the campus and its teachers, and by doing so we are able to build a culture in which our students want to be here and learn.”
12. What has happened at Warren Middle School

Robert and Henry were two friends in the same class. They always played and went home together. One day, Robert and Henry were going home from school. On turning a corner, Robert cried out, “A fight! Let's go and see!”
“No,” said Henry. “Let us go home quietly and not meddle with (管闲事) this quarrel. We have nothing to do with it and may get into trouble. Also our parents are expecting to have dinner with us together and I don't want them to worry about us.”
“You are a coward (懦夫), and afraid to go,” said Robert, and off he ran. Henry went straight home, and in the afternoon went to school as usual.
But Robert had told all the boys that Henry was a coward, and they laughed at him a great deal. From then on, they looked down on Henry and didn't want to play with him together.
Henry was sad but he wasn't angry with Robert for his rude behaviour, because he knew that they misunderstood him. Thus, he just ignored the other boys' laughter and continued to go to school and study as well. However, Robert didn't invite Henry to go home together with him anymore. Instead, he had some other boys who also thought Henry was a coward. Every day after school, they didn't go home directly but went to the river or somewhere to play games and had a lot of fun.
A few days later, Robert was bathing with his new friends in a river, and got out of his depth. He struggled and cried for help, but he failed. The boys who had called Henry a coward got out of the water as fast as they could, but they did nothing to help him.

It seemed as if Robert would be dying. Just at that moment, Henry happened to pass by. Seeing Robert struggling in the water, Henry immediately rushed to the river without hesitation. He swam quickly towards Robert and grasped his arm tightly. Though Robert was exhausted and struggled wildly, Henry tried his best to pull him towards the bank with all his strength. He kept calming Robert down to prevent him from dragging both of them into deeper water.
Paragraph 2:
Thus, Robert's life was saved. Lying on the bank, Robert gasped for air and felt extremely ashamed. He realized that true bravery was not rushing into meaningless danger, but staying sensible and helping others in need. He apologized to Henry sincerely for misunderstanding and bullying him. From then on, Robert learned to respect others and they became close friends again. The experience taught all the boys a precious lesson about true courage and friendship.
