Sandro Dias had dreamt of skateboarding down the curved (弯曲的) outer wall of the Centro Administrativo Fernando Ferrari (CAFF) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, ever since he first saw the building in 1988. That dream finally became a reality on September 25, 2025, when the 50-year-old perfectly skated down the 22-story building from a height of about 197 feet.
This feat earned the professional Brazilian skateboarder two Guinness World Records. One was for the tallest drop into a temporary quarter slope — a curved structure that lets riders launch into the air and perform tricks. The second record was for the fastest speed skateboarding on a temporary quarter pipe. In just eight seconds, Dias reached a top speed of 64 mph.
Although he made it look easy, Dias spent months training for the ride. He practiced riding his skateboard while being pulled by a motorcycle. He also wore an 88-pound vest to copy the increased gravitational forces he would experience during the drop.
The stunt, called the Red Bull Building Drop, also required careful planning. The Red Bull crew spent over a month building a smooth slope that connected safely to the building. The sides of the concrete wall were lined with soft material to protect Dias during his high-speed descent. Foam pillows stretched across the bottom to help him slow down and stop safely.
Also known as Mineirinho, Dias is one of the world’s best skateboarders. He has won six world championships and is famous for pulling off tricks that very few people can do. Dias hopes his achievements will inspire more young people to take up the sport.
“It’s not about seeking fame. It’s about pushing the limits and creating opportunities for people,” Dias said after the record-breaking stunt. “I hope this serves as motivation, so that more and more people get into skateboarding and more opportunities come up for the sport.”
24. How did Dias prepare for the skate
A.By building slopes alone.
B.By learning from other riders.
C.By training with special methods.
D.By practicing on the CAFF wall.
25. What can be inferred from the stunt’s planning
A.It was done in a hurry.
B.Safety was a key concern.
C.The crew lacked experience.
D.Only Dias cared about it.
26. What does the author imply about Dias in paragraph 5
A.He is a top skateboarder.
B.He dislikes competition.
C.He wants to quit the sport.
D.He has no other achievements.
27. What is a suitable title for the text
A.Dias: Skateboarding Dream Comes True
B.Dias: Skateboarding Journey Begins Now
C.Dias: Skateboarding Skills Keep Improving
D.Dias: Skateboarding Challenges Continue

Everyone has an opinion about plastic. Whether you love it or hate it, it’s a part of everyday life. Now, a new plastic has been invented that dissolves in saltwater in just two to three hours and it may be a game changer for many.
Over the last century and a half, plastics have become an essential part of modern life. Plastic is a necessary component of cellphones, which are used in the medical industry, and the automotive industry. But there is a downside too. Plastic is extremely hard to recycle and most of it ends up in landfills or in oceans where it lasts forever. But that can change. Researchers in Japan have developed a plastic that could be a potential solution to the problem of plastic pollution.
With plastic pollution set to triple by 2040, this discovery is already getting a lot of attention, especially from the packaging industry. According to the project lead Takuzo Aida, the new material is as strong as fossil fuel-based plastics because it was made by combining two specific chemical units, but it easily breaks down when exposed to salt. The components can also be processed by bacteria that is naturally occurring to avoid creating microplastics that end up in the food chain.
The new discovery can be used like other plastics when coated and is non-toxic, non-flammable (非易燃的), and doesn’t emit any carbon dioxide, making it a big win for the planet. This innovation was announced ahead of World Environment Day.
“Children cannot choose the planet they will live on. It is our duty as scientists to ensure that we leave them with the best possible environment,” Aida said.
The Japanese team is one of many that are working on new solutions to the issue of plastic waste. In 2022, an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic wrap was developed by scientists from Rutgers University, in partnership with Harvard University. They created an antimicrobial (杀菌的) spray-on coating for produce that is biodegradable and could potentially replace plastic bags.
28. What does the underlined word “downside” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Trick.
B.Potential.
C.Disadvantage.
D.Switch.
29. What benefit may the new plastic bring
A.More microplastics in food.
B.Less harm to the environment.
C.Increased plastic waste.
D.Difficulty in recycling.
30. Why does the author mention Aida’s words
A.To criticize plastic production.
B.To praise children’s awareness.
C.To introduce World Environment Day.
D.To stress scientists’ responsibility.
31. What do the two research teams have in common
A.They had the same research time.
B.They focus on plastic alternatives.
C.They are from the same university.
D.They are studying food packaging.

Men over 50 may exercise more than twice as much as women to get the same heart health benefits. An analysis of activity tracker data found that men in this age group need nearly 9 hours per week of moderate to energetic activity — like fast walking or cycling — to gain a 30 per cent drop in coronary (冠状的) heart disease risk, compared with about 4 hours for women.
Scientists already suspected that women got more cardiac (心脏的) benefits than men based on self-reported exercise data, but such figures aren’t always accurate.
To overcome that problem, Jiajin Chen and his colleagues used data from wrist-worn activity trackers collected by the UK Biobank study and compared that with participants’ health records over eight years.
They first analyzed information from 80,243 adults (average age 61) with no coronary heart disease history. Women doing at least 150 weekly minutes of moderate to energetic exercise saw a 22%lower disease risk, while men had only a 17%drop. A 30%risk reduction required 250 minutes for women and 530 for men — a notable sex difference. For 5,169 diagnosed patients (average age 67,two-thirds men),150 weekly minutes of such exercise cut women’s all-cause mortality by 70%over eight years, versus 20%for men.
“This isn’t bad news for men. It’s just something we should know about, “says Nir Eynon at Monash University, Australia.” Once we know, we can do better — we can do more exercise. And while it’s reassuring for women who are busy all the time, I also think women should not miss the fact that they need to exercise as well.”
A drawback, however, is that it is focused on a primarily well-off, well-educated population that was about 93 per cent white. Black women tend to have worse cardiovascular (心血管的) outcomes than white women, says DeFilippis, and social factors play a significant role in health and following treatment plans. Even so, the findings in this older population suggest that even exercise later in life can have significant benefits.
32. Why is self-reported exercise data untrustworthy
A.It lacks accuracy.
B.It’s too complex.
C.It’s outdated.
D.It’s incomplete.
33. How did Chen’s team do the research
A.By doing experiments.
B.By interviewing people.
C.By reviewing old studies.
D.By analyzing two data types.
34. What is paragraph 4 mainly about
A.The limitations of study data.
B.Risk reduction for men.
C.Exercise time for women.
D.Gender difference in exercise.
35. What is the author’s attitude to the study
A.Doubtful.
B.Critical.
C.Objective.
D.Approving.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Education is more than teaching a child content such as letters, numbers, and facts. 36 In other words, it focuses on developing kindness, empathy, and character — the essential qualities of a good citizen.
A child’s family plays a key role in supporting the development of good citizenship. Start first within your home, within the context of secure and nurturing relationships. 37 This helps children understand that caring for others starts at home but extends to the wider world.
Children learn more from what we do than what we say. 38 Praise children when you see them helping others, as this encourages them to continue. It is also vital to give them age-appropriate responsibilities. Avoid using rewards, as the true motivation should come from the internal satisfaction of helping, not from a prize.
Beyond the home, reading books is an excellent way to explore themes like honesty and making a positive difference. Developing a love for the natural world is equally important. When children connect with nature, they learn to respect and care for their environment. 39 For example, when deciding whether to share a toy, help them consider the other child’s feelings. This practice builds responsible decision-making skills.
Understanding the importance of good citizenship from an early age helps children build a strong foundation for their role in society. Good citizenship teaches children how to care for others, contribute to their communities, and make choices that benefit others. 40 Early lessons in citizenship create a kinder, safer, and more inclusive society for all.
A.It can also affect how they handle real-world responsibilities.
B.Parents should model kind and thoughtful behavior in daily life.
C.As your child grows, gradually expand to your larger community.
D.Teachers should take full responsibility for children’s moral growth.
E.Encouraging children to share can significantly build their confidence.
F.Furthermore, guide your child to think about the consequences of their actions.
G.Early childhood education is about helping children become their best selves.

Last month, my art teacher Ms. Carter handed me a plain white sheet of paper with instructions: “Create a piece about ‘growth’ for the school art contest.” I stared at the blank paper, my mind equally empty, fingers brushing its smooth surface lightly. As a 17-year-old who’d never won any art award, I felt nervous but hopeful — this was my chance to prove I could do more than just sketch flowers.
I decided to paint a sapling (树苗) breaking through concrete. To make its roots look tough, I studied photos of young trees online. For a week, I locked myself in my room, mixing paints and adjusting the sapling’s leaves until they looked lifelike. I thought it was perfect — until I left the painting on my desk overnight.
The next morning, I found my little brother had spilled juice on the corner, leaving an ugly brown stain. My hands shook as I stared at the ruined work, eyes burning with frustration. “It’s over,” I whispered, crumpling (揉) the paper into a tight ball.
That evening, I found the crumpled paper on my bed, smoothed out. Next to it was the original white sheet with Ms. Carter’s handwriting added: “Growth isn’t about being perfect. It’s about rising when you fall.” I froze. She must have noticed my sadness in class. Slowly, I unfolded the stained painting. Maybe she was right — maybe the stain could be part of the story.
I grabbed my brush again, determination pushing away my doubts. Instead of covering the stain, I turned it into a small stone beside the concrete, adding tiny lines to make it look rough. I added a few raindrops on the sapling’s leaves, making it look like it had survived a storm. When I finished, the painting felt more real than before — it told a story of not giving up.

第一节 参考范文
Dear Bob,
Knowing that you are interested in the booming robot industry, I’m writing to share some related information with you.
Robots have numerous advantages. They can work continuously without getting tired, greatly improving work efficiency. Besides, they can take the place of humans to finish dangerous and repetitive tasks, reducing safety risks.
In my opinion, robots will play an increasingly important role in our life. They promote technological development and make our life more convenient. I believe the robot industry will have a brighter future.
Best wishes,
Li Hua
第二节 参考范文
But on the day of submission, my heart sank. Standing in front of many delicate and perfect paintings, my work looked plain and flawed. The obvious stain-turned stone seemed to stand out awkwardly. I hesitated, feeling that my imperfect painting would be laughed at. I even wanted to give up and take it back. However, I recalled Ms. Carter’s words about growth. Gathering my courage, I walked forward and submitted my painting bravely.
Their cheering made me in high spirits. Unexpectedly, many classmates gathered around my painting and praised its unique meaning. The judges also commented that the painting perfectly interpreted the true meaning of growth: experiencing setbacks but choosing to keep going. I didn’t win the contest, but I gained something more precious. I truly understood that growth is never about perfection. It is the courage to face flaws and difficulties that makes us grow stronger.
