As Elizabeth Stone once said, “Having children is like having your heart go walking around outside of your body.” You send them off to school and hope that the world treats them kindly because when they hurt, you hurt. Surely it’s inevitable that your child will experience hurt feelings at some point. So, it’s wise to be ready for those moments.
But what truly prepares you for the moment when the child you love so much unexpectedly heals the wounds of your own inner child A mom, who goes by Soogia, posted a video on TikTok explaining a phone call she received from a parent in her daughter’s classroom. The mom called to inform Soogia that their kids had been sharing lunch with each other.
Soogia wasn’t prepared for what came next. The classmate’s mother informed her that her son loved the food Soogia’s daughter brought to school and wanted to learn how to cook it too.
That may seem like a small thing to some, but the small gesture healed a little bit of Soogia’s inner child. Growing up as a Korean kid in California, Soogia had different experiences from her children.
“I guess I just never thought that my kids would be the generation of kids that could go to school and not just proudly eat, but share their food with other kids that were just so open and accepting to it,” Soogia said through tears. “They don’t sit there eating their food alone, feeling ashamed and wishing that their fried rice was a bagel instead or something like that. And I know, it sounds so small and it sounds so stupid, but knowing that their experience at school is so different from mine in such a positive way is just so hopeful.”
Soogia’s tearful video pulled at the heartstrings of her viewers who shared their thoughts in the comments.
“These Gen Alpha babies really are a different, kinder generation. I love them so much,” someone revealed.

D.To contrast the different feelings between parents and children.

26. What makes Soogia feel comforted
A.Her child can finally fit in with American society.
B.Her child has gained friendship and recognition at school.
C.Her child needn’t feel ashamed of their cultural background.
D.Her child can share their favorite food with their classmates.
27. What can we infer about Soogia’s opinion of the new generation of children

Over the past few years, the health and wellness industry has experienced a significant boom, driven in part by the pandemic prompting individuals to prioritize their well-being. This surge has led to a notable increase in the interest surrounding vitamins and supplements. Sales of dietary supplements in the US surged by 50% between 2018 and 2020, amounting to over $220 billion in 2020 as revealed by a study published in the journal Nutrients.
Amid this trend, social media influencers are actively promoting various vitamins and supplements as a quick fix for various health issues. Vitamins and supplements can be a beneficial addition to a person’s health and wellness routine — if used and obtained correctly. However, experts caution that this promotion can sometimes perpetuate misinformation and potentially lead to harmful health consequences due to blanket statements lacking scientific backing. Dietitian Caroline Thomason warns against blanket recommendations, emphasizing the importance of personalized advice.
The question of “What vitamins should I take ” lacks a one-size-fits-all answer. Navigating the world of vitamins requires individualized guidance. Experts recommend consulting a primary care physician or dietitian. Conducting blood tests to assess vitamin levels is crucial before determining specific supplement needs. Personalized recommendations are essential as there is no universal approach to vitamin intake. If you don’t have a deficiency, prioritizing a diverse diet to meet your nutritional needs rather than relying solely on supplements is advisable.
It’s vital to exercise caution when considering daily vitamin intake. Certain vitamins, such as fat- soluble vitamins A, D, E, K, along with minerals like iron and calcium, should not be consumed regularly without professional guidance. Excessive intake of these nutrients without a deficiency can lead to toxicity and adverse interactions. It’s vital to be aware of potential health risks, including liver damage, high calcium levels, bleeding, and kidney stones, which may arise from improper supplements.
In conclusion, while vitamins and supplements can enhance one’s health routine when used appropriately, excessive intake without medical supervision can pose serious health risks. Individualized guidance from healthcare professionals is essential to ensure optimal well-being and avoid potential complications.
28. Why do experts caution against blanket recommendations for vitamin intake
A.Because they are gaining popularity.
B.Because they lack scientific evidence.
C.Because they are personalized suggestions.
D.Because they are influenced by social media.
29. What is emphasized as essential before deciding specific supplements needed
A.Consulting social media influencers.
B.Increasing vitamin intake.
C.Using universal approaches.
D.Taking blood tests.
30. According to the text, what does the underlined term “deficiency” in Paragraph 3 mean
A.A treatment plan
B.Lack of vitamins
C.An inadequate diet
D.Intake of supplements
31. What does this passage mainly focus on
A.Potential risks of improper diet
B.Influencer culture in the wellness industry
C.Dietary guidelines for ideal health
D.Importance of tailored supplement consumption

Exhausted by the rising cost of living in the United States and non-stop advertisements, some young adults on TikTok are pushing back.
“When every moment of your life feels like you are being sold something and the price of that item keeps going up, people will burn out on spending money,” said Kara Perez, an influencer and financial educator.
Social media has long showcased picture — perfect homes, luxurious closets and various beauty products. But a new trend, known as “underconsumption core”, is moving in the opposite direction - encouraging more economical lifestyles and prioritizing quality over quantity. For example, many people on social media proudly display their well-worn shoes that have been with them since middle school, along with their commitment to using the last drop of their makeup. Others opt for repurposing old mason jars instead of buying new food storage containers.
For a long time, young people in the West have commonly made use of “Buy Now, Pay Later” plans, which have intensified consumption. They have developed a behavior of spending down to their last pound on a fashion item. It is an addiction tied to the pressure “to show who we are through possessions”. However, years of inflation (通货膨胀) have forced many to conclude that they cannot keep up with the spending habits of those on their social media feeds.
“The social media trend of ‘underconsumption’ is a way for Gen Z to make the most of their money and be environmentally friendly at the same time,” said Ashley Ross, head of Bank of America.
Low-consumption brick-and-mortar (实体的) initiatives attract a broader range of people across different profiles and generations. Anjali Zielinski, 42, joined a “Mending 101” workshop in Georgetown, DC, hoping to acquire new skills. She brought her 7-year-old daughter, Mina, along with her. In addition to providing an outlet for Mina’s creativity, she hopes the craft will teach her daughter the “value of our possessions and the work that goes into them.”
But some are still doubtful. It remains to be seen whether “underconsumption core” is simply a mood or a lasting movement. “The lifespan of this trend depends, in many ways, on how long the economy continues to slow and incomes remains below price gains,” Brett House, an economics professor at Columbia Business School, told CNBC.
32. What is the cause of some Americans’ cutting back on spending
A.The commercial activities.
B.Their social media feeds.
C.Their material satisfaction.
D.The economic downturn.
33. What is the philosophy of “underconsumption core”
A.Spending money as you like.
B.Doing more with less.
C.Keeping up with the Joneses.
D.Buy Now, Pay Later.
34. How does the author tell us the trend’s popularity among people
A.By giving examples.
B.By making comparisons.
C.By listing numbers.
D.By citing research data.
35. What is Brett House’s attitude to the “underconsumption core” trend
A.Doubtful.
B.Reserved.
C.Objective.
D.Disapproving.

Strategies to Become Emotionally Mature
Emotional maturity is crucial for personal growth and healthy relationships. Developing emotional intelligence can be challenging, but with the right strategies, you can become emotionally stronger and improve as a person.
Communicate Your Needs
____36____ This happens mostly in relationships. Your partner would want you to know exactly what they want and when they want it. This can be extremely annoying. Just as you cannot read someone else’s mind, they can’t read yours. You need to communicate your needs to others, so do they.
Try Using “I” Statements
When discussing your feelings, use “I” statements instead of “You” statements. For example, say “I feel hurt” rather than “You hurt me.” This approach allows you to express your emotions without placing blame, making it easier for others to understand your perspective. ____37____
Take Responsibility For Your Actions
Just like your words, you need to take full responsibility for your actions. Many people make silly excuses and don’t take responsibility for their actions. That is where they hurt others and themselves. If you have made a mistake and hurt others in the process, apologize immediately. It won’t bring your self-respect down. ____38____ You will become emotionally mature by doing this.
Avoid Negative People
You are known by the company you keep. It significantly influences your emotional well-being. ____39____ Distancing yourself from negative influences or emotionally controlling people is vital. Remember, you are the CEO of your life — choose your associates wisely.
By applying these strategies, you can develop deeper into emotional maturity. ____40____ Start today, and embrace the journey toward becoming your best self.
A.It will actually help you win recognition from others.
B.People interact with us like we are mind readers sometimes.

On a cold, damp evening in mid-November, a sharp wind cut through the streets, but Jack paid little attention to the chill. As a delivery rider, he had just finished a few smooth orders, his hands warm from the hot milk tea cups he’d been carrying, and his spirits fairly good. Stepping out of a milk tea shop, he found the spot where his second-hand electric bike had been parked now empty. In an instant, his heart sank, and a wave of hopelessness swept over him, turning his calm evening into a nightmare. That bike was far more than just a vehicle; it was his lifeline, the only way for him to earn daily income and cover his living expenses.
Panic set in as he remembered the undelivered orders — especially a cup of hot milk tea for Ms. White, a regular customer. His hand trembled as he pressed the voice button, his words laced with sorrow and anxiety as he apologized repeatedly, offering to pay for the undelivered drink. To his great surprise, Ms. White did not respond with anger or complaint, but with gentle kindness. Ms. White told him not to worry and to take his time finding his bike.
Her understanding words calmed him, but also deepened his sense of responsibility. “She is so kind. I cannot let her down,” he thought. For nearly two hours, he searched every nearby street, but there was no sign of his bike. As night grew darker and the wind bit harder, Jack clenched his fists and made a firm decision. He took out his poor savings, bought a bag of fresh apples and a new cup of hot milk tea, then set off on foot to Ms. White’s apartment, several kilometers away. The wind bit into his thin jacket, and his old shoes grew heavy with mud, but the thought of keeping his promise and maintaining his integrity kept him moving forward through the dimly lit urban landscape.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Finally, breathless, Jack reached Ms. White’s doorstep and rang the bell.

Deeply moved by Jack’s action, Ms. White decided to share the story online that night.

Finally, breathless, Jack reached Ms. White’s doorstep and rang the bell. The door opened quickly and Ms. White was shocked to see Jack covered in mud with red cheeks from the cold. Jack handed over the apples and hot milk tea, apologizing again for failing to deliver the drink on time. Ms. White invited him inside to warm up with hot water, refusing to accept the fruit and tea. She praised Jack for valuing honesty more than anything else and told him she would help him report the stolen bike to the police.
Deeply moved by Jack’s action, Ms. White decided to share the story online that night. Her post soon went viral, touching hundreds of readers. Many netizens offered help, and a local bike shop owner even promised to give Jack a second-hand electric bike for free. The police also found the thief within two days and returned Jack’s bike. Jack realized honesty would always bring warmth and kindness in return.
