Shetara Sims had weathered some tough years. In 2012, her eldest daughter suffered severe injuries during an argument in Kansas City, Missouri. Last year, the single mother lost her job in the hard times. She had only $7 in her pocket as she headed into the grocery store one day last July with her 12-year-old daughter, Rakiya Edmondson.
And then luck finally turned Sims’ way. She and her daughter found a dollar bill in the parking lot. Maybe this was their day, they told each other. So they bought a lottery ticket (彩票) — and won $100.
But before they could spend their windfall, Rakiya had an idea. The news in Kansas City that week had been filled with stories about a police officer, Tyler Moss, who had been shot in the head in the line of duty. He was in critical condition. Rakiya and her mother had never forgotten how kind the police had been after their own family member was attacked. “The detectives were really there for us,” Sims says. “They came to see my kids. They were fathers, therapists (治疗师). They were everything.” Rakiya wanted to give their lottery winnings to Officer Moss’s family. Her mom readily agreed.
On July 10, Sims called the police and made an anonymous (匿名的) donation. Moved by her generous act, the officers did what they do best — they tracked Sims down. When she explained the family’s motivation, the officers could hardly believe it. “With her current financial hardship, we encouraged her to keep the money,” the department later explained. “She refused, saying the officer’s family needed it and police needed to know they were supported.”
By then, that feeling of support was mutual. The police set up a GoFundMe page for Sims and her daughter, whom they named “The Woman with the Heart of Gold.” Their goal was $10,000. By January 11, 2021, they had raised $165,405. Even better: Officer Moss, who had a 1 percent chance of survival, is out of the hospital and recovering.
4. What does the underlined word “windfall” in paragraph 3 probably mean
A.Devoted effort.
B.Poor times.
C.Unexpected money.
D.Lucky days.
5. What made the Sims decide to donate the lottery winnings
A.Desire for public praise.
B.Gratitude for past police kindness.
C.Hope for financial return.
D.Sympathy for Officer Moss’s family.
6. Why did the police track down Sims after the donation
A.To return the money.
B.To help the family.
C.To report her in public.
D.To find the truth.
7. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A.A Lottery Win That Brought Mutual Warmth
B.A Police Officer Who Got Support from a Stranger
C.A Poor Family Whose Life Was Changed by Faith
D.A Kind Police Team That Helped a Single Mother

A new artificial intelligence (AI) model developed by the Chinese company behind social media rocked Hollywood this week — not just because of what it can do, but what it could mean for creative industries. Created by tech giant ByteDance, Seedance 2.0 can generate cinema-quality video, complete with sound effects and dialogue, from just a few written prompts (提示词). Many of the clips said to have been made using Seedance, and featuring popular characters like Spider-Man and Deadpool, became popular.
“For the first time, this doesn’t just look good for AI — it looks like real film production.” says Jan-Willem Blom from creative studio Videostate.
Western AI video models have made progress in processing user instructions to make amazing images, he adds, but Seedance seems to have tied everything together. Like other AI tools-Midjourney and OpenAI’s Sora-Seedance can create videos from short text prompts. In some cases just one prompt seems to be producing high-quality videos. It is particularly impressive because it combines text, visuals and audio in a single system, AI ethics researcher Margaret Mitchell says.
Seedance’s impact is being measured by an unlikely test: how well it generates a clip of Will Smith eating spaghetti. Not only can Seedance create a remarkably life-like version of the star eating a plate of pasta, it has also created popular videos of Smith battling a spaghetti monster — and it looks and feels like a big-budget movie.
Many industry experts and filmmakers believe Seedance is a new chapter in the development of video-generating technology. The complex action sequences it is producing look more realistic than its competitors, says David Kwok, who runs a Singapore-based animation studio called Tiny Island Productions. “It almost feels like having a cinematographer or director of photography specialising in action films assisting you.”
However, Seedance has run into trouble over copyright (版权) issues, a growing challenge in the age of AI. Experts warn that AI companies are prioritising technology over people as they make more powerful tools and use data without paying for it.
8. What does the author highlight about Seedance in paragraph 1
A.Its focus on social media.
B.Its competition with Hollywood.
C.Its ability to generate hot figures.
D.Its influence on creative industries.
9. How does Seedance differ from Western AI video models
A.It integrates multi-media elements.
B.It creates single amazing images.
C.It processes instructions faster.
D.It needs many text prompts.
10. Why is Will Smith mentioned in the text
A.To highlight his cooperation.
B.To prove he is a famous actor.
C.To show his love for spaghetti.
D.To test Seedance’s performance.
11. What do experts think of Seedance
A.It will replace human workers.
B.It needs proper data payment.
C.It lacks some creative designs.
D.It weakens action scene effects.

The precise timing of Earth’s climate tipping points — moments at which human-caused climate change will lead to permanent planetary changes — has long been debated. But new evidence suggests they may be closer than we think. A recent report warns that Earth has already crossed its first critical tipping point.
The study, conducted by the University of Exeter, identifies warm-water coral reefs as the first system to surpass this threshold (阈值) of 1.5 °C. Plagued by a combination of rising ocean temperatures, acidification, overfishing, and pollution, corals are experiencing widespread diseases and mass death. A significant loss of these reefs is now inescapable unless global temperatures are capped at 1°C or lower.
“We’re in a new climate reality,” said Tim Lenton, the report’s lead author. He confirms that crossing this initial tipping point virtually guarantees exceeding the 1.5°C warming threshold, making the planet a “danger zone” for more severe changes. The World Meteorological Organization predicts this critical threshold will be reached within five years, leading to more intense extreme weather and shortages of food and water.
Beyond this immediate threat, scientists have identified up to 25 other major tipping points. These include the Amazon rainforest’s potential transition from a carbon sink into a dried-up grassland, and the permanent melting of polar ice. This darkening surface speeds up warming as dark ocean water absorbs far more heat than reflective ice.
Alarmingly, 80% of coral reefs have already been under severe heat stress. Their death would be disastrous, as they sustain fisheries and protect coastlines. With one of the lowest temperature thresholds, corals are the first major ecosystem to be compromised.
Coral reefs are not the only victim. The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC), a crucial ocean current system, is endangered by warming below 2°C. A collapse here would disturb global weather patterns and agricultural systems on a massive scale.
However, despite these serious risks, there is hope in “positive tipping points”, such as the rapid adoption of electric vehicles and solar power. Lenton emphasizes that transformative solutions must be employed urgently to limit warming and avoid further shifts.
12. What does the underlined phrase “Plagued by” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Resulting in.
B.Suffering from.
C.Counting on.
D.Accounting for.
13. What can be inferred from paragraph 3
A.Not all predictions are reliable.
B.Climate change is no longer a threat.
C.Tougher challenges may be unavoidable.
D.Global warming has been temporarily stopped.
14. Why is the Amazon rainforest mentioned in paragraph 4
A.To highlight forests’ capacity to recover naturally.
B.To compare its carbon absorption with polar ice’s.
C.To emphasize the necessity of protecting biodiversity.
D.To illustrate the severity of threats to major ecosystems.
15. What conclusion can be reached from the last two paragraphs
A.Risks and profits go hand in hand.
B.The collapse of AMOC is predictable.
C.Clean energy have addressed the climate crisis.
D.Immediate action is needed to turn things around.

Getting back into exercise can be a challenge in the best of times, but with gyms and in-person exercise classes off-limits to many people these days, it can be tricky to know where to start. And it’s important to get the right amount of activity. “Too much too soon either results in injury or burnout,” says Mary Yoke, PhD. ____16____
____17____
Don’t try to go back to what you were doing before your break. If you were walking 3 miles a day, playing 18 holes of golf three times a week, or lifting 10-pound dumbbells for three sets of 10 reps, reduce activity to half a mile every other day. Increase time, distance, and intensity gradually. “This isn’t something you can do overnight,” says Keri L. Denay, MD.
If you’re breathing too hard to talk in complete sentences, back off. If you feel good, go a little longer or faster. ____18____ Go easier next time. And stay alert to serious symptoms, such as chest pain or pressure, severe shortness of breath or dizziness, or faintness, and seek medical attention immediately.
Consistency is the key to getting stronger and building endurance. Ten minutes of activity per day is a good start. ____19____ All the experts we spoke with highly recommend walking because it’s the easiest, most accessible form of exercise. Although it can be a workout on its own, if your goal is to get back to Zumba classes, tennis, cycling, or any other activity, walking is also a great first step.
Even if you can’t yet do a favorite activity, you can practice the moves. With or without a club or racket, swing like you’re hitting the ball. Paddle like you’re in a boat. Copy your favorite swimming moments. ____20____
A.Start Low, Go Slow.
B.Aim High, Push Hard.
C.Feeling wiped out after a session
D.You can also join a livestream exercise class.
E.It can lay a solid foundation for your future exercise plans.
F.This action will remind you of the joy the activity brought you.
G.The following strategies will help you return to exercise safely after a break.

I never thought I'd be a “runner”. I was the girl who finished her laps last in gym class, the girl who was breathless after two flights of stairs, and the girl who complained of pain after a two-minute jog. Pretty sad, really.
But a few years ago, I changed my tune. I was walking with a group of friends in the Race for the Cure, a race to raise money for the fight against breast cancer, when one lady caught my eye. She was one of the weakest looking women I'd ever seen. She must have been close to seventy years old, wearing a hat to cover her bald head and a T-shirt with the word “Survivor”. She was so small that it seemed as if a swift breeze could tip her over.
But, she was running. And she was passing me and my group of twenty-something friends. I couldn't stop staring at her. She ran slowly, but determinedly — as if each step pushed her cancer further into her past. She was practically walking on her cancer every time her feet touched the ground.
Then, I looked at my friends. Here we were, in the best time of our lives, and this seventy-year-old cancer survivor was kicking our butts! Right at that moment, I swore that in the next Race for the Cure, I'd be running along with her.
A week later, I found myself at the gym. I got on and started to jog. Three minutes after I started, my face was bright red. I was sweating and felt like my lungs were going to burst. I had to slow down to walk. I thought about the woman at the race. She made it look so easy. I kept it up. I was able to go a little longer each time. Three and a half minutes. Four minutes. Five.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式作答。
A year later, I was at the Race for the Cure again.

五、读后续写范文
A year later, I was at the Race for the Cure again. I signed up as a runner, nervous but full of determination. When the starting gun went off, I set off at a steady pace. At first, everything went smoothly. But halfway through the race, my legs began to ache terribly, and I was out of breath. I slowed down, ready to quit and switch to walking. Just as I lost hope, a familiar thin figure appeared ahead.
When I was giving up, I saw the woman from the year before. She was still running slowly but firmly. Seeing her, I regained strength. I quickened my pace and caught up beside her. We ran side by side silently. When we crossed the finishing line together, big smiles spread across our faces. That old lady taught me that persistence can beat all weaknesses, and every small step counts.
