It happened two years ago. It was Mother's Day morning. I was doing my shopping at our local supermarket with my five-year-old son, Tenyson. As we were leaving, we found that only minutes earlier an elderly woman had fallen over at the entrance and had hit her head on the ground. Her husband(丈夫) was with her, but there was blood everywhere and the woman was embarrassed(尴尬的) and clearly scared. Walking towards the scene, Tenyson became very sad about what had happened to the couple. He said to me,“Mum, it's not much fun falling over in front of everyone.”
At the front of the supermarket, a charity group had set up a stand selling fish and chips and flowers to raise money. Tenyson suggested that we should buy the lady a flower.“It will make her feel better,” he said. I was amazed that he'd come up with such a sweet idea. So we went over to the flower seller and asked her if we could buy a flower for the lady to cheer her up.“Just take it,”she replied.“I can't take your money for such a wonderful act.”
As we held the flower and walked to the woman, doctors arrived and started treating the injured(受伤的) woman. After we walked closer, my son became intimidated by all the blood and medical tools. He just hid behind me.
Instead, I gave the flower to the woman's husband and told him,“My son was very sad for your wife and wanted to give her this flower to make her feel better.”
Hearing this, the old man started crying and said,“Thank you so much. You have a wonderful son. Happy Mother's Day to you.”

It was half past seven on Monday morning: time to get ready for school. Jay Stone rolled out of bed, went over to his mirror(镜子) and looked at himself.
“Not bad, Stone, not bad,” he said to himself and smiled. Maybe he wasn't ready for Hollywood, but with his dark brown eyes and his thick brown hair, he had the looks that turned girls' heads. He moved closer to the mirror and smiled, checking his teeth.
“Perfect,” he thought.“Good enough for a toothpaste(牙膏) ad.”
As his eyes moved down to his strong arms, he smiled again. The hours he spent in the gym doing sit-ups have paid off.
But suddenly, the smile froze. His eyes moved from the upper part of his body down to his legs. His legs were short. Not just short, but far too short for his body. He had the upper body of a sixfooter, but because of his legs he was much less than six feet! Six inches less! Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone. Standing, he had to look up at most of the boys and even many of the girls.
Why didn't his legs grow with the rest of his body He was one of the shortest boys in his class. He was the shortest in his own family. Where did his legs come from
He certainly didn't get them from his parents. They were both quite tall. Looking through old family photos, he found the answer. It was his grandfather on his mother's side. His short legs were a gift from Grandpa Tuttle. Thanks a lot, Grandpa!
Of course, the kids at school all noticed Jay's short legs and they had a nickname(外号) for him: Stubs! Almost no one called him by his real name; they all called him Stubs. Stubs Stone, Jay didn't like his nickname, but he had to accept it. He had no choice.
But Jay couldn't see in the mirror what his legs could do. They were quick and strong. He was the youngest player on the Brewer High football team. He could run faster than anyone else in the team and, like a rabbit, he kept going and going. Even at basketball, where the other players were much taller than him, they were still afraid of him because of his speed.
Jay shook his head.“Stubs, Stubs Stone, the kid with stubby legs. Yeah, that's me,” he said to himself with a little smile. Suddenly, he heard his mother's voice.
“Jay! It's breakfast time!”

Dong Lina, a visually impaired(视力障碍的) woman from Dalian, is the first visually impaired person in China to get a master's degree in radio and television broadcasting(广播电视学硕士学位). Dong shared her story and encouraged the graduates to work hard to achieve their dreams.
Dong Lina went blind when she was. She finished her education and began learning tuina. Her teacher at the special education school told her that tuina was the only career for her. However, Dong didn't think so. She wanted to continue her education.
One day, she heard that there was a training programme for blind youth radio hosts in Beijing. Dong, who had been praised for having a good voice since childhood, realized that this was a good chance. So she made up her mind to change herself. After the first time in the broadcast host class, Dong Lina was deeply moved.
Since that, it was a new page in her life. At school, she worked harder. In 2010, she took part in a national competition. People were moved by her ability, and then she was encouraged to study at the Communication University of China. And for many years, she has dedicated herself to achieving equal chances for disabled people and helping develop the language education of visually impaired teenagers. When Dong Lina gave her speech at the graduation ceremony, she said,“May we fight not only for personal success, but also for the betterment of others and the world during our lifetimes.”
In 2025, a total of about 31,800 students with disabilities graduated from universities. Through Dong's experience, it can be seen that colleges, society and the government have taken action to make more disabled people live common lives. For example, many universities have offered special support like providing barrier-free(无障碍) test paper and carrying out some research projects on blind students.
Dong's success tells us that nothing is impossible to someone with a willing heart. And this is what we should learn from her.
