Jensen Huang has worked hard, overcome challenges and used his life experiences to build one of the most important tech companies.
Huang was born in Tainan in 1963, but his father’s work took the family to Thailand when he was a child. Then, when Huang was 9, his parents sent him and his brother to the United States due to political tensions in Thailand.
Unexpectedly, Huang was sent to a reform school for troubled youth. This may not sound beneficial, but Huang appreciated it. He says, “We worked really hard, and the kids were really tough.” The toughness and work ethic (道德) he developed have served him well.
After graduating from college, Huang earned a master’s degree in electrical engineering. While being a student, he worked as a waiter. Before he took the job, he was very shy, but waiting tables forced him to speak to people. That helped him to get over his shyness. He also learned the importance of admitting mistakes.
On his 30th birthday, Huang and two engineering friends founded his company, NVIDIA. They thought it was likely that computers would soon need more powerful technology to display graphics (图像).So NVIDIA produced such hardware: the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) in 1999.The first application of this technology was to video games, but it has also been used in other areas. Recently, GPUs have played a key role in the development of AI.
Huang’s success is attributed to a number of factors including hard work and refusal to give up. But the most important characteristic is his willingness to take risks and learn from failure. This requires humility (谦逊) and honesty, which enables him to recognize and correct mistakes. Huang encourages these attitudes in his employees, which are partly responsible for the company’s success.
Today, at the age of 62, Huang is the longest-serving CEO of a major technology company. He does not intend to stop anytime soon.
4. How did Huang react to being admitted to a reform school
A.He was shocked at first but settled for it.
B.He took it seriously and made full use of it.
C.He set a goal to get prepared for his tech career.
D.He regretted the reform school but didn’t say so.
5. Why did Huang and his friends decide to develop the GPU
A.Because video game companies placed a large order of it.
B.Because AI was in great need of the hardware at that time.
C.Because stronger graphics hardware might be needed soon.
D.Because no other groups were developing similar technology.
6. Which may replace the underlined part “attributed to” in paragraph 6
A.due to
B.essential to
C.identical to
D.compared to
7. What is the text mainly about
A.GPU technology’s invention and wide application.

Beauty sleep is a real thing, researches have shown that people who have enough sleep look more attractive (有魅力的) to others.
A few bad nights is enough to make a person look“ especially” more ugly, their sleep experiments show.
The researchers asked 25 university students to join in their sleep experiment. They were asked to get a good night’s sleep for two nights.
A week later, they were asked to sleep for only four hours every night for two nights in a row. The researchers took make-up free (素颜) photos of the volunteers after both the good and the bad sleep. Next, they asked 122 strangers to have a look at the photos and judge them on attractiveness, health, and sleepiness, as well as asking them: “How much would you like to make friends with this person in the picture ”
The strangers were good at judging if the person they were looking at was tired, and, if they were sleepy, their attractiveness score was low.
The strangers also said they wouldn’t want to socialize with the tired students. The researchers say this is natural for people. An unhealthy-looking face makes people run away. In other words, people don’t want to hang around with people who might be ill.
Dr. Brewer, an expert at the University of Liverpool said “Judgement of attractiveness is often unconscious, but we all do it, and we are able to judge on even something small like whether someone looks tired or unhealthy. This study is a good reminder of how important sleep is to us.”
8. When did the researchers take make-up free photos
A.After two nights’ good sleep.
B.After two nights’ bad sleep.
C.Before the experiment.
D.After both two nights’ good sleep and two nights’ bad sleep.
9. The researchers asked the strangers to do the following except_______.
A.telling who looked healthier
B.telling who didn’t have many friends
C.telling who missed a lot of sleep
D.telling who was attractive
10. What kind of friends did the strangers like to make
A.The people who were tired.
B.The people who were sleepy.
C.The people who were unhealthy.
D.The people who were attractive and energetic.
11. According to the passage, which of the following is the best title
A.Beauty sleep, More attractive.
B.More sleep, More Friends.
C.Less sleep, Fewer friends.
D.No attractiveness, No friends.

Long ago in China, people told stories in a special way: with shadow puppetry. It is a very old art form. It uses light, a white cloth screen, and flat puppets (木偶) to perform famous Chinese tales.
This art is believed to have originated over a thousand years ago, possibly during the Han Dynasty. Different regions in China developed their own styles. For example, Shaanxi province is famous for its bold (粗犷的) and simple designs, while puppets from southern areas like Zhejiang are known for being more delicate and finely carved.
The stage is simple. A light is placed behind a white cloth. The puppeteer controls thin puppets made from treated animal skin, usually donkey or cow hide. The puppets are cut into shapes of kings, heroes, and animals, and painted in bright colors. When moved near the screen, their colorful shadows (影子) act out stories from history and legends. A single play can require dozens of different puppets.
This art demands great skill and patience. The puppeteer must move the puppets perfectly using thin sticks to show actions like walking or fighting. The same person also does all the voices, changing his or her tone to match different characters. Musicians play traditional instruments like the drum and erhu during the performance, adding emotion to the story.
In the past, shadow puppet troupes (剧团) traveled between villages. Their arrival was a big event, bringing entertainment and teaching lessons about bravery and kindness to communities with few other amusements.
Today, this old art faces challenges. Fewer young people are learning it. Artists are trying new ideas to sustain this art, which means they want to keep it alive for the future. Some create stories about modern life, like going to school or using computers. Others perform in shopping malls or post videos online to reach a wider audience. These efforts aim to show that shadow puppetry is not just history, but a living art that can still be exciting today, keeping a precious piece of cultural beauty.
12. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph
A.To explain how to make a puppet.
B.To introduce an ancient Chinese art of storytelling.
C.To describe the colors used in puppetry.
D.To list the tools needed for a performance.
13. In the last paragraph, the artists want to “sustain” this art, which is an action that means they want to ____________ .
A.remember its long history
B.make it continue and not disappear
C.change it into a modern play
D.make it easier to learn
14. What is mentioned as a difference between regional styles of shadow puppetry
A.Some use lights while others use candles.
B.Some tell old stories while others tell new ones.
C.Puppets from Shaanxi are bold, while southern ones are delicate.
D.Some perform for free while others charge money.
15. What is the main idea of the passage
A.Shadow puppetry (皮影戏) is too difficult and should be replaced by movies.
B.Shadow puppetry is only interesting to historians.
C.Through creativity, shadow puppetry can remain meaningful today.
D.The government must do more to save old arts like shadow puppetry.

Li Wei, a high school senior, had always felt confused between her mother’s expectation and her own dream. Her mother, a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, ran a small clinic in their town. The air inside was always filled with the earthy smell of dried herbs. Her mother had long hoped Li Wei would take over the family business. “A career in medicine is a good choice, and it connects us to our roots,” her mother often said, pointing to the old books lining on the shelves.
But Li Wei’ s heart belonged to classical dance. She spent hours practicing in secret, and her room was full of posters of international dance groups. One evening, while helping her mother prepare herbs, Li Wei accidentally knocked over a jar of ginseng (人参). As she hurried to clean up, her mother’s voice cut through the silence, “You’ re too distracted. This is why you can’t focus on your studies— and the clinic.”
Li Wei’ s cheeks turned red. “I don’ t want to be a doctor!” she shouted. “I want to dance!” Before her mother could answer, Li Wei grabbed her bag and ran out, leaving the clinic door moving.
Weeks passed, and the tension between them reached boiling point. Li Wei avoided the clinic, spending long hours at dance practices even though her knees had become swollen and red. When she did come home, the house was full of cold silence, broken only by the occasional noise of her mother’s tool grinding (研磨) herbs. But Li Wei couldn’t miss the way her mother’s eyes looked at her dance shoes, or the soft sighs that came from her during their rare talks. She was eager for her mother’s support.
Then came a big chance: a national dance competition. Li Wei’ s hands shook as she filled out the application form, her heart beating fast. But when she looked at the bottom of the page, she felt scared. The form needed a parent’s signature, a sad reminder of the gap between her and her mother.
注意:(1)续写词数应为150个左右;(2)按格式作答。
That evening, Li Wei arrived at the clinic, with the application form in hand.

Dear Editor,
To build us up, our school has organized running exercise during the break.
Students hold different opinions about it. Some support the activity. They believe running can strengthen their bodies and ease study pressure. However, others disagree. They feel tired after running, which affects their class efficiency. Besides, heavy sweat may cause colds.
As for me, I support the running activity. Proper exercise refreshes us and helps us focus better in class. We just need to take proper care after running.
Yours,
Li Hua
五、读后续写范文
That evening, Li Wei arrived at the clinic, with the application form in hand. She stood at the door nervously, watching her mother sort herbs quietly. Gathering all her courage, she walked forward and handed the form to her mother, explaining how much she longed for the competition. To her surprise, her mother stared at the form silently and noticed her swollen knees. She sighed softly and signed her name gently, saying she had seen Li Wei’s devotion to dance all along. She told Li Wei she would go to watch her performance.
Before stepping onto stage, Li Wei held her mother’s lucky sachet (香囊) in her pocket. Warmth spread through her body as she thought of her mother’s understanding. She danced wholeheartedly, pouring all her love for dance and gratitude to her mother into every movement. When the performance ended, she spotted her mother waving warmly in the crowd. After the show, they hugged tightly, and the cold gap between them disappeared completely. Li Wei realized true love meant respecting each other’s dreams.
