Yang Yu, known as Jiaozi, was born in 1980 to a family of doctors in Sichuan. He abandoned medical studies after discovering animation software in college. For three years, he taught himself animation at home, relying on his mother’s 1,000-yuan monthly pension — a period he calls “creative baptism”.
His 2008 debut See Through, a 16-minute solo project, won 30 awards, including a Berlin International Short Film Festival prize, and caught producer Yi Qiao’s attention. Despite his reserved nature, Jiaozi’s work reflects deep gratitude for his parents’ support, reshaping traditional stories into tales of familial love.
From 2015 to 2019, he risked everything on Ne Zha, revising its script (剧本) 66 times. His demon-child main character — dark-eyed and defiant — faced early criticism but became a cultural icon. Produced on a 60-million-yuan budget, the film involved 5,000 drafts, 1,400 effects shots, and 60 studios. Jiaozi worked until dawn every day, later admitting, “I even feared getting sick would cause delays.” The gamble paid off: Ne Zha earned 5 billion yuan, breaking Chinese animation records.
For its sequel, Jiaozi aimed higher. Ne Zha 2 required more than 1,900 effects shots — surpassing the original — with scenes taking over a year to perfect. A single battle sequence featured 200 million on-screen characters, achieved entirely by Chinese studios. “Communication was the hardest part,” he confessed, describing endless revisions under tight deadlines. Released in 2025, the film grossed (总收入) 1 billion yuan in two days, with projections nearing 15 billion yuan.
Despite offers to cooperate globally, Jiaozi insists on nurturing homegrown talent. “Animation isn’t a shortcut — it demands lifetime dedication,” he says. While fans await Ne Zha 3, he remains focused on innovation: “Each film must offer something matchless, visually and emotionally.”
From medical dropout to record-breaking director, Jiaozi lives out his hero’s motto: “My fate is mine to decide.” He has rewritten not just his destiny, but the future of Chinese animation.
24. What do we know about Yang Yu

Drivers often secretly look around for police before using a phone while driving. This dangerous behavior occurs daily worldwide and claims thousands of lives. Fortunately, AI technology now installed in millions of cars can detect if a driver is on the phone, smoking, or wearing a seatbelt as well as his age, sex, weight, and mood.
Two cameras, on the steering wheel and rear view mirror, scan the cabin (座舱) using AI and ensure the driver is paying attention to the road, especially as cars become semi-autonomous. In Europe they will be required on every new car sold from 2026 — the driver can get warnings if they are distracted or sleepy.
Seeing Machines, whose driver monitoring systems have been installed in more than 2.6 million vehicles, demonstrated additional capabilities. The AI system can identify the name, gender, height, and weight of the driver and passengers, which helps determine how hard an airbag should be deployed (调用) and inform emergency services who is in the car after a crash. It can also detect basic face expressions like happiness, sadness, or surprise. Nick DiFiore, its strategic project adviser, said car companies are eager to use the potential of cameras.
Mike Lenné, chief science and innovation officer at Seeing Machines, said: “In-cabin sensing is definitely going to be the safety technology of the decade.” Paul McGlone of Seeing Machines questions what authorities will do if phone-use monitoring, one of the China’s standards for driver monitoring, is put into practice. Edmund King of the AA thinks such monitoring could help with driver distraction but depends on how it’s carried out. Matthew Beecham notes that while cameras improve driving, they also turn cars into moving observation units. The UK Department for Transport is considering which technologies are suitable for compulsory use in Great Britain.
28. What is the main purpose of introducing AI technology into vehicles
A.To improve the comfort of driving.
B.To better driver’s physical condition.
C.To reduce dangerous driving behaviors.
D.To increase the autonomy of the vehicle.
29. How does the AI system work
A.It tracks traffic flow via cameras.
B.It takes clear pictures via cameras.
C.It monitors the cabin via double cameras.
D.It detects obstacles via double cameras.
30. What is AI system unable to do according to Seeing Machines
A.Identify the driver’s driving experience.
B.Decide the best airbag deployment force.
C.Detect the driver’s basic facial expressions.
D.Report to emergency staff who is in the car.
31. What can be inferred about AI system from the last paragraph
A.It has positive impact on society.
B.Its application faces uncertainties.
C.It has gained worldwide adoption.
D.It will be compulsorily used soon.

Since Dolly’s birth in 1996, cloning has long struggled with low efficiency, epigenetic errors and short-lived clones. But 2025-2026 marks a turning point, as Chinese scientists and global teams smash technical bottlenecks while revealing fundamental biological limits.
In July 2025, a Chinese Academy of Sciences team led by Lu Falong achieved a historic breakthrough. For the first time, they simultaneously overcame pre- and post-implantation epigenetic (表观遗传) barriers in somatic cell cloning. Using a combination of special chemicals, mRNA “repair enzymes” and tetraploid compensation (四倍体补偿) technology, they fixed gene expression disorders and placenta defects. This pushed the mouse cloning success rate to 30% — a world record, far higher than the previous 5-10%. The result was published in Advanced Science, offering a blueprint for efficient mammalian cloning.
Another 2025 innovation came from Qingdao Agricultural University: AI-assisted cloning for canines. Dog cloning is notoriously hard due to dark, fat-rich cytoplasm that hides nuclei. The team built an AI vision model that predicts egg cell nucleus positions in milliseconds, guiding precise enucleation (去核). This cut embryo use from 50-60 per pup to 33, with two healthy cloned puppies born in February 2025.
Yet cloning has biological limits, as revealed in a 2026 Japanese study. After 20 years and 58 generations of continuous mouse cloning (1,206 clones total), researchers found that harmful mutations accumulate 3-4 times faster than normal. Success rates peaked at generation 26, then dropped sharply; the 58th generation died days after birth. This proves infinite cloning is impossible — genetic decay (衰退) is an unbreakable barrier.
In summary, 2025-2026 brings cloning to a new era: AI and epigenetic editing boost efficiency, but biological limits and ethics set boundaries. When regulated properly, cloning can serve conservation, agriculture and medicine — without crossing moral redlines.
32. What is the major achievement of the 2025 Chinese CAS study
A.Creating the first cloned dog with AI.
B.Solving both pre- and post-implantation epigenetic barriers.
C.Proving cloning has biological limits.
D.Developing human egg cells from skin cells.
33. Why is dog cloning especially difficult
A.Dog eggs have dark cytoplasm with hidden nuclei.
B.Dogs have more genes than other mammals.
C.Dog embryos are extremely fragile.
D.No AI technology can be used on dogs.
34. What did the 2026 Japanese experiment reveal
A.Cloning success rates keep rising with generations.
B.Cloned mice have no more mutations than normal ones.
C.Continuous cloning leads to harmful mutation accumulation.
D.58 generations of cloning are safe and sustainable.
35. What is the writer’s attitude toward cloning
A.Supportive.
B.opposed.
C.Objective.
D.Doubtful.

Summer vacation starting, Steve and I planned to play baseball every day, aiming to join the freshman team. “If you make it into the team, I’ll buy you a new baseball glove as a present.” My mom’s promise echoed in my mind as I excitedly waited for Steve, staring at my worn-out glove.
But today I had to clean Mrs. Thompson’s garage first. She was weakened by old age, so my mom always volunteered me to help her. Mom wouldn’t let me accept any money, thinking she didn’t have much, and literally, I never minded — after all, Mrs. Thompson had knitted me five sweaters and always made me cakes. Most importantly, it was the right thing to do.
Steve came rushing out of his house, and I explained the situation. As expected, he immediately said, “Alright, I’ll help.”
We instantly got to work. The garage was a mess of boxes, but we gathered all our energy and soon brought the cleanup to an end. When arranging the last box, however, I nudged the shelf accidentally. Before I could react, a vase fell and crashed to the ground, broken into pieces.
I froze, my heart pounding. The vase was beautiful with delicate designs, which must have cost a fortune. Glancing at the open garage door, I suggested, “Maybe I can just sweep this up. Mrs. Thompson won’t even notice.” I responded fast and piled the pieces into the trash bin. But Steve’s expression darkened. “That’s not how it works. You should tell her what happened.”
I tried to justify myself, telling all the chores I’d done for Mrs. Thompson without pay. I even argued that it wasn’t my responsibility to pay for something I didn’t destroy on purpose. However, Steve wasn’t buying it, his voice firm. “You’re better than that. Be responsible.”
We stood there in silence, the weight of the moment hanging between us. Just then, Mrs. Thompson walked in, giving us a scare. She smiled warmly, unaware of the whole thing. “Boys, I baked a chocolate cake. Now come in for a piece. I really appreciate all your help.”

五、读后续写(参考范文)
Hesitantly, we entered the room and I noticed a gift box on the table beside the cake. Curious, I asked Mrs. Thompson what it was. She handed it to me gently, saying it was a brand-new baseball glove for my team tryout. I felt a wave of guilt wash over me instantly. I couldn’t enjoy the sweet cake at all, with the broken vase constantly haunting my mind. Steve shot me a soft reminding look, pushing me to confess the truth without delay. Taking a deep breath, I told Mrs. Thompson every detail of the accident.
Having said that, I waited nervously for Mrs. Thompson to speak up. To my surprise, she smiled and told me the vase was just a cheap decoration with no special value. She said honesty mattered far more than any fragile vase. Her warm words relieved my heavy heart completely. I learned a valuable lesson that day: taking responsibility bravely is always the right choice, no matter how worried you feel at first.
