McMinnville is a small town with a unique reputation. It is known as the nursery (苗圃) capital of the world, because of the hundreds of plant nurseries that call McMinnville home. I grew up in a large family where disorder often spread throughout the house. I was the quiet one, walking around the house cleaning up and taking care of their needs. So when I started to have negative thoughts about my body and my abilities, I didn’t know how to speak up over all the noise. Gradually I began to starve myself, eating less and less.
I didn’t want to admit that my health problems were being caused by my eating disorder behaviors. Every time my low weight was brought up by someone who loved me, I blamed it on my stomach illness.
The turning point was during a heated conversation I had with my therapist (治疗师). Our conversation was about the harm I was doing to my body and why food was good for my body. I felt frustrated. I already knew everything he was saying — I have a degree in exercise science. But what I didn’t know was how to apply what I had learnt to my disorder and how to help my brain overcome its own thoughts. We eventually got past my frustration and discussed specific memories that contributed to why I was afraid of food. He started teaching me about mindfulness (正念) and I slowly started to make progress.
My therapist helped me understand how the body and mind were connected. So I began to accept my thoughts and feelings without thinking there’s a right or wrong response, and tune into (关注) what’s happening in the present moment rather than repeating the past. Regularly I practiced mindfulness, focusing on my moment-to-moment experiences. Moreover, I took up mindful eating — when eating, I just focused on the food I was eating and how it tasted. Mindfulness gave me a sense of control over my thoughts and actions. Thanks to it, I finally recovered.
4. What resulted in the author’s eating disorders
A.Her lifestyle.
B.Her busyness.

A.Admitting them without judging them.
B.Sharing them with a trusted person.
C.Forgetting them by eating mindfully.
D.Trying to keep them in mind.
7. Which is the most suitable title for the text
A.How I brought forward mindfulness.
B.How mindfulness changed my life.

Dolphins are one of the most intelligent creatures on Earth. They have all sorts of ways to play. But there’s one hobby that’s especially amusing to dolphins: blowing bubble rings (泡泡环).
Dolphins blow bubbles for different purposes; sometimes they release a bubble stream along with a noise to communicate. When they’re frightened or excited, they may react with a cloud of bubbles. Bubbles are even hunting tools for dolphins, used as nets to trap fish.
However, observations of dolphins have shown that handling the rings they create almost functions like a game for them. This game calls for strategic thinking and, like any game humans play, it also requires practice.
When dolphins make bubble rings, they go through two important steps associated with bodily control. They first have to precisely adjust the air pressure inside of their lungs. Then, they have to open their blowholes (喷水孔) for just the right amount of time to let out the perfect ring.
Some dolphins in oceanariums (海洋水族馆) have also been observed going to the bottom of a pool to blow bubble rings, indicating that their position in the water influences whether or not they engage in this type of play. After positioning themselves, dolphins tend to nod or move their heads before creating the bubble ring. They’ll then control the ring by creating currents with their fins, causing it to change its direction.
Interestingly, dolphins aren’t always satisfied with just one bubble ring. They’ll sometimes try to make a second bubble ring that combines with the first one. However, they don’t add a second ring every time. They’ll only do so if the first ring is high quality. So when the first ring is not up to par, the dolphin simply won’t try to make a second one.
These behaviors prove that dolphins use a great deal of creativity and careful consideration to entertain themselves, all while showing off the smarts of the brainy creatures.
8. Why do the dolphins make bubble rings mainly
A.To hunt.
B.To communicate.
C.To entertain themselves.
D.To express emotions.
9. What can be inferred about making bubble rings
A.It often involves loud noise.
B.It demands a high level of skill.
C.It typically occurs in deep water.
D.It is usually successful at the first attempt.
10. What does the underlined part “up to par” in the last but one paragraph probably mean
A.Large in size.
B.Circular in shape.
C.Reaching the right depth.
D.Meeting the proper standard.
11. What does the text mainly illustrate about dolphins
A.Their smart underwater tricks.
B.Their flexible bodily control.
C.Their addiction to bubble rings.
D.Their preference for amusement.

Have you ever been told to “sleep on it” when struggling with a difficult problem Modern research shows the advice is more than folk wisdom; it is biology in action.
According to a theory, our brains replay old memories while we’re asleep. This memory reactivation (重现) during sleep is assumed to have two functions, strengthening fresh memories and neatly fitting them into the pre-existing network of long-term memories.
As well as playing a significant role in the formation of long-term memories, it’s thought that this process assists with problem-solving. A 2021 study tested this by training participants on a video game. The subjects went away for either a day of wakefulness or a night of sleep before being asked to solve a new puzzle. The researchers wrote that sleep improved problem-solving, with 62 percent of subjects from the Sleep group solving the problem compared to 24 percent of the Wake group.
This finding corroborated that of an older study from 2019. The participants were presented with puzzles associated with different sounds. While they slept, half of the sounds associated with puzzles they had not solved were played to them — and in the morning, it was these puzzles that the participants had more success in solving.
This adds further evidence that sleep aids in solving problems, but with an important catch. “No matter how much sleep I get, I’m not going to suddenly figure out black holes or find a cure for a rare disease, because I don’t have the necessary background knowledge,” explained senior researcher Mark.
So, a good night’s sleep can help us solve problems where we have all the pieces, but we just can’t figure out how to fit them together. It’s unlikely we’ll wake up with the complete blueprint for a new cancer cure, for example.
There’s so much left to discover about what sleep can do for us. But it’s good to know that, like so many things Grandma told us, sleeping on a difficult problem is sound advice rooted in real science.
12. What can we learn from the theory mentioned in paragraph 2
A.Sleep helps process new memories.
B.Sleep affects the storage of old memories.
C.Sleep brings long-term benefits to memories.
D.Sleep creates brand new long-term memories.
13. Which of the following can replace the underlined word “corroborated” in paragraph 4
A.depended on
B.backed up
C.went against
D.referred to
14. What does Mark’s statement imply
A.Sleep improves the recall of related information.
B.A good night’s sleep helps solve complex problems.
C.Relevant knowledge facilitates sleep-driven solutions.
D.Problem-solving involves inner processing during sleep.
15. What is the suitable title for the text
A.Sleep on It: A Proven Tip
B.Have a Good Sleep: A Big Helper
C.Rest for Results: A Refreshing Idea
D.Memory Replay: A Good Problem-Solver

I made it all the way to fifth grade before anyone (except me) realized that I couldn’t see twenty feet in front of me. Our school had vision screenings (视力普查) every year, but somehow I had managed to fake good vision and pass the tests.
But then in the fifth grade, I failed. It was my turn to go into the screening room, and I nervously took my seat in front of the testing machine. The nurse told me to look into the little black machine and tell her which direction the letter E’s legs were pointing. Barely able to make out the black spot of an E, I made a guess: “Right, left, left, up, down, up, left, right”. I looked up at her.
She studied my face for a moment. Then she said, “Could you repeat that ”
I panicked. I’d never been asked to repeat it. And I hadn’t memorized the guess I’d just made up. I was trapped. So, I looked into the machine again and made up another sequence of guesses. I glanced over at the nurse, who was leaning forward with a frown on her face.
“You have no idea which way they’re facing, do you ” she asked.
“Not really,” I confessed.
“Can you even see the E at all ” she asked.
“Sort of.. no,” I admitted.
“Then why didn’t you just say so ” she demanded.
I didn’t respond. I thought the answer was obvious. Glasses in the fifth grade were a social death sentence. I would become a joke in my class.
The nurse sent me home with a note for my mother that said I needed to visit the eye doctor because I’d failed the vision test. The trip home today was very slow.
My mother (who wears glasses) said it would all be just fine. It wouldn’t hurt a bit, she said. But I wasn’t worried about pain—I was worried about looking like Super Geek (怪人).
注意:1.续写词数应为150词左右;2.请在答题卡相应位置作答。

Dear fellow students,
As the student union president, I’m writing to call on you to use AI properly.
Now many of us rely too much on AI to finish homework, which weakens our ability to think independently and stops us mastering knowledge.
AI should only be a helper. We can use it to search materials, but finish exercises and compositions on our own.
Let us be masters of AI instead of its slaves and make progress through independent thinking.
Sincerely,
Li Hua
五、读后续写范文
The next day, my mother dragged me to the eye doctor’s office. After a series of tests, the doctor confirmed my poor eyesight and recommended a pair of light-frame glasses. I stared at the mirror wearing the new glasses, totally shocked. Everything around me turned clear and bright: the tiny words on posters, distant trees outside the window, all vivid as never before. Though still nervous about being laughed at, a little joy rose in my heart for the brand-new clear world.
But then Monday morning came, and I had to face what I fear: the kids in my classroom. I lowered my head and hurried to my seat, waiting for teasing voices. Unexpectedly, several classmates gathered around, saying the glasses suited me well. In class, I could clearly see every word on the blackboard and offered correct answers actively. Gradually I realized glasses were never a shame. They opened a bright new world and helped me become more confident.
