We usually send and receive information through the movement of our bodies. Body language can express different feelings. We often use gestures or body movements to express our thoughts. For example, when someone is giving a talk, he or she may often use his or her hands to emphasize points.
The victory sign, the OK sign, the goodbye wave and the blowing of a kiss are all popular gestures in America. However, most of these gestures are not accepted by people in other countries. For example, the OK gesture means acceptance in America, but it has other meanings in other countries. In France, it means worthlessness, while in Greece, it is considered an insulting gesture.
There are some other differences in the non-verbal messages of people of different sexes. In American culture, men usually sit or stand with their legs apart and their hands outwards, while women usually keep their legs together and their hands at their sides. Women sit quietly more often than men do. Women are also better than men at expressing themselves by using gestures.

Pacific pocket mice live in Southern California, usually within 3.2 kilometres of the sea. They can help spread the seeds of the plants that grow naturally in this area. Their digging underground also helps the plants grow.
But starting in the early 1930s, human beings began taking up more and more of the area where the mice normally lived. Pacific pocket mice began disappearing. In the 1970s, scientists believed that the Pacific pocket mouse had become extinct (灭绝的) .
But in 1994, scientists found a small group of Pacific pocket mice in Orange County, California. Later, they found two other small groups of the mice. Starting in 2012, the San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance (SDZWA)began working to help the mice by raising them. Pat was just born in the first year of that programme.
In 2016, the SDZWA and several other groups helped get a group of Pacific pocket mice started in a park. Soon, the number of mice in the park began growing without any help from human beings.
