Tony Bennett, one of the legends of jazz and popular music, developed a career lasting over half a century.
He was born on August 3,1926, in New York City. His parents were both from poor farming families. Young Tony gave a singing performance at the opening of the Triborough Bridge at 10 years old. He studied music at the New York High School of Industrial Arts but dropped out at the age of 16. To help his family economically, he worked as a singing waiter in Italian restaurants.
In 1950, Bennett signed a contract (合同) with Columbia Records and then made his first big hit Because of You. It sold over a million copies and topped the pop charts in1951. Bennett was able to do five to seven shows a day in New York to crowds of screaming teenagers. In 1956, he continued making recordings and brought two albums, with Chicago and Jeepers Creepers becoming popular songs. His landmark concert at Carnegie Hall in 1962 featured 44 songs. The same year he released I Left My Heart in San Francisco, which remained on the charts for a year and has become his signature song.
Bennett had a change of fortune after 1964, with strong competition from The Beatles and the British Invasion. His singing career took a downturn when his bosses forced him to change his image and style, which pleased no one.
Tough as the life was, his career took off again when he brought back his original style. He made two gold albums in 1992 and 1993, and developed a loyal following. He again extended musical cooperation to live performances with other bands. Bennett also appeared as himself on MTV’s documentary series Unplugged. Tourists across China have enjoyed a chain of cultural events from traditional to modern, and discovered new destinations during this year’s five-day May Day holiday.
Items on China’s traditional intangible cultural heritage list proved to be popular with travelers in many regions. In Lantian county, northwest China’s Shanxi Province, tourists were amazed by the art of Dawaz, which means aerial tightrope (空中钢丝) walking in the Uygur language. Meanwhile, in east China’s Changzhou City, music festivals attracted huge crowds of travelers, and local authorities introduced measures to ensure the comfort of visitors. They arranged 500 coaches for long-distance travel, set up more than 10,000 free parking spaces and extended the operation hours of the subway network until 11:30 p. m.
And it’s not just big cities that drew in visitors during this holiday. Holiday makers decided to go for natural views, less-crowded scenic spots, and cost-effective travel experiences. Data from Chinese travel booking platform Ctrip showed that orders for fourth-tier and below cities increased by 140 percent on a yearly basis, outperforming those in first and second-tier cities.
Wu Sa, deputy director of the Economic Research Institute of the National Development and Reform Commission, expressed belief that the popularity of usual major destinations like Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Hangzhou and Chengdu is not decreasing, but explained that a good number of travelers are looking to diversify the range of their travels, towards new and previously lesser-known places.
Scientific and space projects have also been a hit travel destination this week, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in northwest China to the world’s largest single-dish radio telescope in the southwestern province of Guizhou. “I mainly wanted to take my child to appreciate some of China’s leading space technology and the development trend of big data, so that he can understand the advanced technology of our motherland,” said a tourist named Hu Wannping.
8. What attracted tourists to the Changzhou City
A.The launch of appealing music festivals.
B.The Aerial tightrope walking performance.
C.The celebration of traditional cultural events.
D.The measures to provide comfort for tourists.
9. What may account for people’s choice of fourth-tier and below cities
A.Abundant parking spaces.
B.Famous scenic spots.
C.Low travelling expenses.
D.Convenient booking platforms.
10. What can be inferred from the text
A.The growth of visitors is causing various social issues.
B.Scientific and space projects receive the least attention.
C.Orders for major destinations in big cities are decreasing.
D.Tourists are open-minded as to the choices of spending holidays.
11. What can be the best title of the text

Imagine that you are in a crowded place. You do not notice, but someone is watching you and learns your iPhone password(密码). Then, they steal your phone. Suddenly, your photos, documents, financial information, and the rest of your digital life have been taken from you.
Apple, the iPhone maker, recently released an update to its iOS operating system. It has a new feature called Stolen Device Protection (SDP). The feature makes it a lot harder for phone thieves to open the device and access important functions and settings.
Apple says the feature adds extra security for users. It addresses a drawback that thieves have used to lock device owners out of their Apple accounts, delete their photos and other files from their iCloud, and take money from their bank accounts.
SDP keeps track of a user’s “familiar locations”, such as their home or workplace. It also reduces the importance of passwords. Instead, it favors “biometric”(生物识别的)features such as faces or fingerprints, which are a lot harder to copy.
If a thief tries to erase or reset an iPhone, the device will require a Face ID or Touch ID scan to confirm that the person is the rightful owner. The new feature does not let someone use the password or any other backup method.
Another part of the new feature is designed to slow down thieves trying to change security settings. For example, if someone tries to sign out of an Apple ID account, change the password or reset the phone in an unfamiliar location, they will have to authenticate(证实)by using Face ID or Touch ID, wait an hour, and then do a second facial or fingerprint scan.
Changing an Apple ID password, updating Apple ID security settings, adding or removing Face or Touch ID, and turning off the Find My device feature or Stolen Device Protection also will lead to this feature.
12. What is the function of paragraph 1
A.To set a phone-stealing scene.
B.To introduce the following text.
C.To remind readers to be cautious.
D.To explain how password theft directly causes device loss.
13. What can SDP do to add security for users
A.Stop iCloud files from being deleted.
B.Make it less likely to enter the phone.
C.Secure Apple accounts with remote locking.
D.Prevent thieves from accessing bank accounts.
14. What does SDP require for resetting a stolen iPhone
A.Previous passwords.
B.A new security setting.
C.An Apple ID account.
D.Identity recognition.
15. What does the passage mainly talk about
A.iPhone’s anti-theft measure.
B.Apple ID security settings.
C.Usage of biometric features.
D.Apple’s iOS operating system.
