On August 15th,in the tiny farming town of Frost,Minnesota,Scott was driving his pick-up truck when a small dog ran in front of him.Changing the direction suddenly to avoid hitting the dog,Scott's truck was upside down and he was seriously hurt.
“I couldn't move,”Scott said.“I couldn't even reach up to get my phone from the seat of my truck.I remember saying,'I'm going to need some help here in the next 5 or 10 minutes."

In recent years,the word“Xiexiu”has become popular on social media.The idea comes from Taoist(道教)culture,describing those who use wrong ways and give up moral codes(道德准则)to reach their goals.However,xiexiu has been used by young Chinese as a humorous way to challenge tradition.Social media videos with the“xiexiu”tag have already attracted more than 4 billion views.
The trend began with food influencers(博主)testing out unconventional cooking methods they called xiexiu food.One influencer, named“Big Brother is Hungry”,cooked Cantonese-style char siu(叉烧)in Yakult(养乐多)and got more than200,000 likes.
Xiexiu practices soon spread beyond the kitchen.In fitness,young people now often use KTV to burn calories by singing high-energy songs and dancing—a“sing and sweat”activity.At work,some people share secret ways to rest,like hiding online novels on their computers,or listening to podcasts and watching short videos in the bathroom.Students joined in too.An art student said they wrote song lyrics on piano keys to memorize notes.Another student said they learned a perfect English accent by acting like a foreigner.
Xiexiu practice isn't really about teaching you how to cook,work or study,but it's teaching you how to rethink.But as in classic Chinese martial arts tales(武侠小说),stepping onto the wrong path comes with risks.Some xiexiu food tries brought people stomachaches,and others got fired by bosses when they tried xiexiu practices at work.In conclusion,“xiexiu”doesn't tell us to avoid tasks like cooking,working or studying,but to focus on improving our ways—especially creative ones.
