Is there a connection between volunteering and health Could volunteering help to improve kids’ health
According to a study, kids and teenagers aren’t just helping others by volunteering. They might be helping themselves as well. Scientists have found that volunteering through school or other groups is connected with better health among children and teenagers. Kids with volunteering experience are more likely to be considered flourishing.
Kids who took part in voluntary work were 34% more likely to be in very good physical health than those without volunteering experiences, the study found. Kids aged 12 and older who volunteered were less likely to have anxiety(焦虑). The findings came from information given by the parents of more than 50,000 kids in the United States aged 6 to 17．About half of those parents reported that their kids did voluntary work.
The result of the study comes at an important time for the health of young people. Now, more and more young people have anxiety. In another report, more than 40% of high school students said they once experienced feelings of sadness or hopelessness. So there’s a clear need for useful ways of improving mental(心理的) health. Giving back to the community may be one way. Serving the community seems to help people get a feeling of happiness. And it makes them feel closer to those around them.
