At 16, Benjamin Davis, a sophomore at Bishop Feehan High School in Massachusetts, has invented a revolutionary desktop system that recycles plastic bottles and 3D printing waste into high-quality 3D printing filament (塑料丝). His groundbreaking work won him first place at the 2025 International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) and the $75,000 Regeneron Young Scientist Award, bringing him widespread recognition and increasing attention from scientific communities around the world.
Benjamin’s inspiration struck when he noticed massive amounts of plastic waste piling up in his school’s art room. As he watched these useless materials being thrown away each day, he felt deeply concerned about the growing environmental damage caused by plastic pollution. Determined to find a practical solution, he began to research ways to change waste into valuable resources. Over 18 months, he worked patiently in his garage, researching, designing, and constructing different models until he finally created a small, and advanced machine.
His device can shred plastic waste, melt it, and form it into smooth and consistent 3D printing filament in a single continuous pared with traditional industrial recycling machines, his design uses 70% less energy and produces materials of higher quality. Schools and creative spaces across the globe have already expressed strong interest in his invention, and several institutions have requested detailed prototypes for further testing.
At first, few were quick to credit someone of his age with the ability to tackle such a complex technical undertaking. Teachers and peers questioned whether his small machine could work steadily and meet real-world standards. However, Benjamin never lost confidence. He tested more than 50 versions, stayed up late making improvements, and carefully recorded each result until his device performed perfectly.
Benjamin now plans to study mechanical engineering at MIT. He hopes his experience will encourage more young people to care about the environment and take practical action to solve real problems.

A teaching building with an indoor “forest”, a rooftop park offering views of the entire city, and pathways lined with facilities such as a gym, library, and auditorium(礼堂) these are features of Huizhen High School’s campus in Ningbo, Zhejiang.
Chinese architect Ma Di designed the campus. He said that he got the inspiration from his daughter who was happy to study at home during the pandemic. “The design of her school makes her feel depressed sometimes,” Ma said. “Traditional middle school campus design usually stresses efficiency and designers want to squeeze(塞入) as many teaching facilities as possible in a limited space.”
To him, however, allowing students to feel “purposeless” is as important as teaching them knowledge in the classroom. “In my design, there are no rules, no defined functions, no traditional concept of rooms and floors,” explained Ma.
For example, to allow students to embrace nature, Ma designed a teaching building that has a huge “forest in the air” embedded(嵌入) in the building, with plants protruding(伸出) from all directions. Atop the building is a rooftop park, with tall grass waving gently like falling snow. After dinner, students walk, daydream or watch the sky there.
Besides his philosophy on educational building design, Ma also wants students to have fun in the teaching building and “feel like they can do whatever they want with the space”.
To achieve this, he eliminated traditional floor concepts in the “forest in the air”, with corridors weaving through treetops. This setup allows one to move up and down within the “forest”, with different paths intersecting(相交) unexpectedly, creating small adventures. Additionally, flexible room designs let students tailor spaces to their preferences, transforming some into mini aquariums(水族馆) and radio stations.

Almost everyone has been called an imitator before. It’s within human nature to feel inspired by someone’s work. But we’ve also felt annoyed when someone calls our works his own. Many artists are feeling this same annoyance with the recent rise in popularity of Al art generators.
Stable Diffusion, an Al art generator, allows users to type out descriptions of an image and the AI will generate that image.
This is the case of Kelly McKerman, Karla Ortiz and Sarah Anderson, the three artists behind a recent lawsuit (诉讼) against Al art generators. For McKerman, finding out that her art was an inspiration was initially exciting. But she soon realized that the generator allowed anyone to create an original piece of art in her style, with no credit to her. This realization made McKerman angry on behalf of all artists.
A world in which anyone can generate art in an instant creates a lessened need for independent artists. It’s also harmful because Al art generators create art in specific artists’ styles in an instant with no credit to them, even though it may have taken the artists hours to create the original piece. Art generators are not only unfair to current artists, but they are also discouraging to potential future artists. As a person who has considered a career in art, knowing that my work could be used in this way makes me hesitant about pursuing this route. This way of thinking is not uncommon, which should be incredibly worrying.
Whether it be graffiti (涂鸦) to support a movement or a fine art piece about injustice, art is a vehicle for social change. Furthermore, art is entertainment; animated movies could not exist without digital artists. Finally, art contains great cultural and historical relevance.
The fact that art is essential means that it needs to be protected. Al art generators, like Stable Diffusion, are threatening artists’ rights worldwide. Thus, government regulation and clarified protection of artists’ rights to their work is key to tackling this new world of AI generated art.
32.Why have many artists got annoyed recently
A.They have been caught up in a lawsuit.
B.They have failed to find art inspiration.
C.Al art generators create works of art rapidly.
D.AI art generators allow users to make imitative images.
33.What is McKernan’s attitude toward Al art generators
A.Uncaring. B.Positive. C.Disapproving. D.Doubtful.
34.What is the purpose of paragraph 4
A.To stress the value of art. B.To predict the future of art.
C.To describe how AI art generators work. D.To explain how Al art generators impact artists.
35.What is the author’s opinion on Al art generators
A.They should be governed by specific rules. B.They should be used to aid artists.
C.They should be protected. D.They should be banned.

This Friday brought a mix of emotions—both excitement and disappointment—all because of a flyer(传单) from school.
When I got home, Mum saw the flyer in my hand and asked, "What's this "
"A flyer for a five-day art camp," I explained. "But Emily can't go."
"Would you like to attend " Mum asked. "You've always loved art." Her words reminded me of what Emily had said earlier: "Tessa, you're the real artist. My brother thought the roses I painted were rocket ships." I sighed. Mum patted my back. She knew I had a hard time jumping into something with no familiar faces around. "Maybe next year."
"Maybe," I echoed. Then I told Mum I wanted to go outside to draw the Westons' pine tree (松树). She nodded with an encouraging smile.
As I walked into the bright sunshine, I couldn't help but think about the art camp. I wished I felt a little bit braver. Emily could make friends with a whole bus of kids in ten minutes, but my stomach felt like a little boat tossed in a heavy storm when I was surrounded by strangers... By the time I started drawing, I had made up my mind to forget about the art camp.
I began by drawing the pine tree's strong and straight trunk, and then added the beautiful branches, making sure the upper ones lifted gently towards the sun. Lost in my work, I jumped when I heard Mr. Weston speak up, "You've done a great job showing the strength of that tree on paper."
"Thanks," I smiled, glancing up.
As I drew the needles to the branches, Mr. Weston told me something I never knew about pines: If you plant the root ball too deep, the tree dies. Their roots grow out, not down—to get enough water and grow tall.
"You have a good eye, Tessa." With these words, Mr. Weston nodded goodbye.

M: Good morning, madam. What can I do for you
W: Well, the sleeves of this jacket are too long. Can you make them shorter
M: Let me take a look. Okay, I can do it for 20 dollars.
Text 2
M: I heard on the radio that it'll be sunny during the holiday. Maybe we can take a trip to Boston.
W: That sounds great. I'll call my friend Jane to see if she would like to join us.
Text 3
W: It's nearly eight. If you want to catch the nine o'clock train, you'd better go now.
M: Don't worry. I'll drive to the station.
W: In that case, let me go with you. And you drop me at the city center. I'll go to the open market.
Text 4
M: Do you think people's moods are affected by the climate they live in
W: Well, I think there's certainly something in it, because when the weather is hot, I easily lose my temper, but when it's cooler, I feel much calmer. And if it's raining I always feel sad!
Text 5
M: Guess what, Vicky I'm moving to Boston.
W: Moving Why
M: Because I want to live in a big city. I need some exciting things in my life. And it is convenient.
W: But living in a big city is dangerous.
Text 6
W: Excuse me. I wonder if you could spare a few minutes to do a survey on transport. It won't take long.
M: OK.
W: Great. Are you a student
M: No. I've actually just finished my training and I'm a carpenter.
W: Oh, right. What is the reason for coming to town today
M: Actually it's not for shopping today, which would be my normal reason, but to see the dentist.
W: Right. Then I'd like you to give us some ideas about the facilities and arrangements.
M: Well, I think the lighting is better than before. And they've been increasing the number of footpaths. But I don't think there are enough trains. We have to wait so long.
Text 7
M: Where are my glasses I can't find them.
W: That's a problem.
M: I should have some in a brighter color — yellow or blue maybe — then I could find them easily. Brown is too dark.
W: You should buy one of those strings so you can wear glasses round your neck when you don't have them on.
M: I don't like them, because they make me look old. I'm only 28 — almost too young to be married!
W: Well, if your colleagues see you wandering around looking for your glasses, they might assume you are far older.
M: Yes. Tomorrow I'll get one of those strings...What's the place that sells strings
W: Are you losing your memory as well
Text 8
W: Hello.
M: Rachel, tell us about your day.
W: Well, it all starts with a lot of post we get. We often get artists sending in photographs of their work to see if we'd be interested in displaying it.
M: So you are busy all day.
W: Yes. Sometimes I spend nearly all day on the phone and about fifty percent of the time with artists. We have an art show here about every two weeks.
M: And what's the best part of the job for you
W: The really rewarding thing for me is that you never know how a day is going to go. Some days it'll be really quiet, while other days it's really busy and you don't know what you're going to have to deal with. Of course I find great pleasure. Spending my days being surrounded by beautiful works of art, I am satisfied.
M: Thank you Rachel, and now we'll move on...
Text 9
M: Hey, Alice. I'm sorry I am late.
W: Don't worry about it. Did you have trouble finding a spot to park
M: Actually, that wasn't the problem. I left early enough to avoid the traffic, but I couldn't get across the bridge.
W: What was happening on the bridge
M: I couldn't tell. I just saw the road signs, so I turned around and took the long way here.
W: Well, it looks like we missed the worst of the weather. It was pouring this morning.
M: That's good. I can see the sky is clearing up and the wind has stopped. What are those tents for
W: They're for the food fair. It will close soon, so you'd better get over there if you want to eat. Unfortunately, you came a bit late for the music.
M: So what is this event all about, anyway
W: It's just a community festival we have every year. All the food, entertainment and activities represent the many cultures in our city.
M: Cool. What's happening across the street at the stadium I saw that the local TV stations are all set up there.
W: That's where all the dancing and sports events will take place. This area is for families. I saved us this spot on the grass of the park.
M: That sounds fun. I'll go grab something at the tents, and then meet you back here.

根据原文第三段““In my design, there are no rules, no defined functions, no traditional concept of rooms and floors,” explained Ma.(Ma解释说:“在我的设计里,没有条条框框,没有既定的功能,也没有传统意义上的房间和楼层概念。”)”
根据原文第四段“Atop the building is a rooftop park, with tall grass waving gently like falling snow. After dinner, students walk, daydream or watch the sky there.(教学楼顶部是一座屋顶公园,高高的草儿轻轻摇曳,如同飘落的雪花。晚饭后,学生们在那里散步、遐想,或是仰望天空。)” 可知,屋顶公园是供学生休闲放松的空间,故选B。
31. 推理判断题。根据原文第四段“Atop the building is a rooftop park, with tall grass waving gently like falling snow. After dinner, students walk, daydream or watch the sky there.(教学楼顶部是一座屋顶公园,高高的草儿轻轻摇曳,如同飘落的雪花。晚饭后,学生们在那里散步、遐想,或是仰望天空。)”第五段“Besides his philosophy on educational building design, Ma also wants students to have fun in the teaching building and “feel like they can do whatever they want with the space”.(除了在教育建筑设计上的理念之外,Ma还希望学生们在教学楼里能感到快乐,并且“感觉自己可以随心所欲地使用这片空间”。)”

根据第一段中“Many artists are feeling this same annoyance with the recent rise in popularity of AI art generators.(随着最近人工智能艺术生成器的流行,许多艺术家也有同样的烦恼)”和第三段中“For McKerman, finding out that her art was an inspiration was initially exciting. But she soon realized that the generator allowed anyone to create an original piece of art in her style, with no credit to her.(对麦柯曼来说,发现自己的艺术作品能带来灵感,一开始让她很兴奋。但她很快意识到,这个生成器允许任何人以她的风格创作一件原创艺术品,却不提及她的功劳)”可知,许多艺术家最近感到恼火是因为人工智能艺术生成器允许用户制作模仿性的图像。故选D项。
33.推理判断题。根据第三段中“But she soon realized that the generator allowed anyone to create an original piece of art in her style, with no credit to her. This realization made McKerman angry on behalf of all artists.(但她很快意识到,艺术生成器允许任何人按照她的风格创作一件原创艺术品,而没有她的功劳。这一认识让麦柯曼与其他所有艺术家一样,感到愤怒)”可知,人工智能艺术生成器模仿麦柯曼的作品,这让她很生气,说明麦柯曼对其持不认可的态度。故选C项。
34.推理判断题。根据第四段中“A world in which anyone can generate art in an instant creates a lessened need for independent artists. It’s also harmful because AI art generators create art in specific artists’ styles in an instant with no credit to them, even though it may have taken the artists hours to create the original piece. Art generators are not only unfair to current artists, but they are also discouraging to potential future artists.(在一个任何人都能瞬间生成艺术作品的世界里,对独立艺术家的需求就会减少。
根据最后一段中“Thus, government regulation and clarified protection of artists’ rights to their work is key to tackling this new world of AI generated art.(因此,政府的监管以及明确保护艺术家对其作品的权利是应对这个人工智能生成艺术的新世界的关键)”可知,作者认为人工智能艺术生成器应该受到具体法规的监管。故选A项。
36. C 37. D 38. G 39. E 40. F
Online shopping often involves endless options and dizzying discounts. A single search for running shoes can produce hundreds of results."(网购常常涉及无尽的选择和令人眼花缭乱的折扣。
What if there is a tool capable of hunting for the best prices and making sure your purchases arrive on time "(要是有一款工具能够搜寻最优价格并确保你的购买准时送达呢?) The process results in tired eyes and decision-making challenges."(这个过程导致眼睛疲劳和决策困难。)
They not only suggest what you might like, but also act on your behalf."(它们不仅推荐你可能喜欢的东西,还代表你采取行动。) A选项"They can make purchases without being instructed."(它们可以不经指示就购买。)
Looking ahead, AI agents are likely to not only master personal shopping needs but also negotiate directly with corporate AI systems."(展望未来,AI agents很可能不仅掌握个人购物需求,还会直接与公司AI系统进行协商。) They will be able to book tailored experiences and handle payments across platforms."(它们将能够预订个性化体验并处理跨平台支付。)使用将来时"will be able to",与前文"Looking ahead"和"are likely to"的时态和语义高度一致,是合理的未来功能延伸。E选项"Having an assistant perform these tasks..."(让助手完成这些任务...)
Consumers today are focused on value, looking for deals and comparing prices across platforms."(如今的消费者注重价值,寻找优惠并在各平台比价。)
But can AI truly learn your preferences "(但AI真的能学会你的偏好吗?)——这是一个转折,从"AI能帮你省时"转向"但它真的懂你吗?"。
Having an assistant perform these tasks could be a remarkable time saver."(让一个助手完成这些任务可以大大节省时间。)
AI systems require extensive access to personal data, shopping history and financial information. This level of access increases the risk of misuse and unauthorized sharing."(AI系统需要广泛访问个人数据、购物历史和财务信息。
While offering significant benefits, AI agents also raise critical privacy concerns."(虽然AI agents提供了显著的好处,但它们也引发了严重的隐私担忧。)"While"引导让步状语从句,既总结了前文提到的benefits,又引出了本段的privacy concerns,完美承接上下文。B选项"However, there's also a risk of being addicted to AI agents."(然而,也存在对AI agents上瘾的风险。)

His words made me pause and think. As I looked at the drawing of the pine tree, I realized that I had captured its strength and beauty just as Mr. Weston had described. It made me wonder if I could do the same with my art at the camp. I thought about how I had always admired Emily's ability to make friends easily, but maybe it was time for me to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I decided to take a chance and sign up for the art camp, even if it meant facing my fears of being around strangers.
The next Monday, I signed up for the camp. I was nervous but excited at the same time. As I walked into the camp on the first day, I was greeted by a group of friendly faces who were eager to learn and create. Over the next five days, I was amazed at how much I learned and how much my art improved. I also made some new friends who shared my passion for art. It was a challenging but rewarding experience, and I was grateful for Mr. Weston's encouragement that had inspired me to take this step. By the end of the camp, I felt more confident in my abilities and excited to continue pursuing my love for art.
