Confucius (孔子) was one of the greatest thinkers and teachers in ancient China. He was born in 551
BC in the state of Lu, which is in today’s Shandong Province. His father died when Confucius was only
three years old. As a child, he was poor but very hardworking. He loved learning and often asked

When Confucius grew up, he became a teacher. He believed that everyone, rich or poor, should have
the chance to learn. He had about 3,000 students in his life, and 72 of them became very famous. He

Later in his life, Confucius decided to travel around China. He spent 14 years traveling to different

he was 68 years old.
In his final years, Confucius focused on writing and editing books. He edited ancient classics like
The Book of Songs and The Book of History. He also wrote The Analects (《论语》 ), a book of his
teachings collected by his students. Confucius died in 479 BC.
Today, Confucius is still remembered around the world. His ideas about respect, kindness, and
education have influenced millions of people. Many schools and classrooms are named after him. His
birthday, September 28th, is celebrated as Teachers’ Day in some places.

The Elves (精灵) and the Shoemaker
Once upon a time, there was a poor shoemaker. He worked very hard, but he could not earn enough
