All living things need oxygen—but not all breathe the same way!You use lungs, fish use gills(鱼鳃) to get oxygen from water.Let's see how!
①Water flows in
When a fish opens its mouth.Water rushes in and moves to its gills.
②Water filter (过滤器)
The water passes through small, hard parts called gill rakers. They act like a filter, keeping out sand and mud.
③Take in oxygen
The water then flows out through the gills.Inside the gills are soft parts called filaments. They take oxygen from the water and send it into the fish's blood.
Quick Q:Why can't fish breathe air?
Fish don't die out of water because they're"thirsty"!In water, their gill filaments spread out like soft feathers to take in oxygen. In air, they stick together, like wet hair,so they, can't get enough oxygen.
26.Which part of a fish helps clean the water? ______
A. The mouth. B. The gill rakers.
C. The gill filaments. D. The gill lamellae.
27.Why can't fish get enough oxygen when they are out of water? ______
A. Their blood will stop flowing.
B. Their gills spread out like feathers.
C. The oxygen is thin in the air.
D. Their gill filaments stick together.
28.On which of the following websites might you find the poster? ______

Your phone rings. You answer, and a polite woman on the line says she's calling from your bank. She explains that there is a problem with your account. However,if you provide some personal details-your address, date of birth, and password(密码)—she can help work it out.Be careful:if you give her the information, you will be in danger. That's because it's probably a scam.
This type of online scam that uses calls to trick people into giving private information.Think of it as a fisher who uses a worm to fish. These"fishers"want one thing:your money. They use many tricks to make their calls look real. They may use technology to change their voice or use their caller's false ID.But usually, they make use of your feelings, such as what you fear or want.In this way, they get you to give them the things they want.
These scams work well because they force people into making decisions at once. For example,a scammer might call an elderly woman and claim(声称) to be her grandson. He is in trouble and needs money right away.Or they might want you to put in money in a"promising business"to make more money, but you have to act now.
The first step in protecting yourself from scams is to be careful when someone calls you to ask for money or personal information. If you have any doubt, say you'll call back and hang up.Then,if the call is from a family member, call them at a number you know is real.If it is from a bank, look up their number online and call it to check whether the situation is real.
Even if the caller makes it seem like an emergency, always take a moment to check. It could save you from making an expensive mistake.Remember, these scammers are smart and can make you believe them easily.Don't be the fish that takes the worm!

Can you imagine a sea of sand three times bigger than India? This is the Sahara Desert, the largest desert in the world. It covers 11 countries in North Africa and is over 9 million square kilometres. That's more than 25% of Africa.
In the Sahara, temperatures are very different during the day and at night. It is much hotter during the day than at night. During the day,the hottest time is between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. ,when temperatures rise to 33℃. But it is very cold at night—the coldest time is at 4 a.m. ,when temperatures fall to -1℃. The Sahara is very dry. The average precipitation in a year is only 70 millimetres.
Because of the extreme (极端的) temperatures in the desert,it is a very difficult place to survive. Marco Rivera,an expert, has some tips:
Take warm clothes and a blanket. You will need them to keep you warm at night. During the day, cover your body, head and face to protect you from the sun and keep water in your body.
A car is easier to see than a person walking in the desert. Use car mirrors to signal and tyres to make a fire for help and warmth.
Drink water hourly, conserve it,drink only when needed, and keep your mouth closed to save water.
Eat only a little, very slowly to ease hunger. If you eat,you will get thirsty and use up your water faster. You can live for three weeks with no food, but you can only live for three days without water.
During the day, make a hole under your car and lie there to avoid the sun and stay cool. At night, find a warm place to sleep, but look carefully for animals before you lie down.
33.How does the writer introduce the topic? ______
A. By telling a story. B. By using a saying.
C. By asking a question. D. By giving examples.
34.Which chart best shows the changes of temperature in the Sahara according to Paragraph 2? ______
A. B.
C. D.
35.What does the underlined word "survive" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?______
A. Keep away. B. Play games. C. Stay alive. D. Meet danger.
36.What can we learn from the text?______
A. Driving a car is very useful in the desert.
B. Drinking water quickly is good for your health.
C. Eating quickly is really important in the desert.
D. Finding a warm place to sleep is unnecessary.

Today Eva would head back to the half-pipe (U字形滑道),the snow-packed structure built especially for snowboarders.
Her coach,Jeff, had told her, "If you want to compete again, you'll have to get back in the half-pipe." Eva sighed. She hasn't been in it since she fell last winter.
After breakfast,Dad took Eva to the mountain. When she got to the half-pipe,it was empty. Her eyes followed the smooth sides, and she blinked (眨眼),not wanting to remember.

As Eva stood there remembering, the half-pipe blurred (变得模糊) in front of her.She breathed in cold air heavily and backed away.
"Where do you think you're going?" Jeff said.
"I can't,Jeff," Eva shouted,feeling dizzy. "I thought I could,but I can't."
She didn't wait for a response and rode down the slope.
Days went by.Ashamed,Eva didn't return to the half-pipe.Nor did she return Jeff's phone calls.
On the weekend of the competition,Eva stayed with her aunt.On Saturday morning they were busy painting, but when the clock struck nine,Eva's mind was elsewhere. She knew that the snowboarders were getting ready.
Throughout the day,Eva kept glancing at her watch.
Ten thirty.Compulsories (规定动作) in the half-pipe competition.
Noon.Break for lunch.
One thirty.Freestyle (自由式).
Not until she knew it was all over could Eva relax. But her heart felt heavy as she went to bed that night.
"How was your weekend?" Mum asked when she picked up Eva on Sunday.
"Good," said Eva,but she was thinking about the competition.
"Jeff called," Mum said,as if reading Eva's mind. "I left the results by the phone."
Eva nodded, grateful that Mum didn't say more.Eva took the list to her room and closed the door.
Her friend Sherry came first in compulsory, second in freestyle.
"That could have been me," Eva thought.Tears filled her eyes. Why was she afraid? So what if she'd fallen? That was how she learned.
Eva threw the list across the room.
The next afternoon,Eva went snowboarding. She was enjoying the smooth rhythm as she glided down the slopes. On one run,Eva stopped and looked across the mountain toward the trees that hid the half-pipe.The competition was over. The snow season was nearly over. She could try again the next year. "But I don't want to wait any longer," thought Eva.
37.Why didn't Eva return Jeff's phone calls?______
A. She got badly hurt and felt dizzy.
B. She was ashamed of not overcoming her fear.
C. She didn't like snowboarding any more.

A. Eva cared about the competition and was anxious about it.
B. Eva was uninterested in the competition and bored.
C. Eva didn't want to paint with her aunt any more.
D. Eva was thinking about getting a new skateboard ready for the competition.
39.Which of the following is the correct order of the story?______
a.Eva wasn't afraid any more and decided to return to the half-pipe.
b.Eva misjudged the distance and got hurt.
c.Eva was still thinking about the competition as her mother picked her up.
d.Eva with her aunt was busy painting on Saturday morning.
A. a-b-c-d B. b-d-c-a C. a-b-d-c D. b-d-a-c
