The Nile River, located in northeastern Africa, is over 4,000 miles long and is seen as the longest river in the world. While Egypt is commonly connected with the Nile, the river actually flows through 11 countries across both northern and eastern Africa. It has two main branches: the White Nile and the Blue Nile. These two rivers meet in Khartoum, Sudan, where they form the main stream of the Nile.
The Nile has been of great importance for human history. Around 5,000 years ago, the Ancient Egyptians depended on the Nile for fresh water, food, and transportation. The Nile also provided them with land for farming. How did the Nile allow them to farm on the dry desert land The answer is that the river flooded every August! And when it did, the nutrient-rich soil (营养丰富的土壤) carried by the water spread across the river banks, leaving behind thick and wet mud (泥) perfect for growing crops.
However, nowadays, the Nile no longer floods each year. This is because in 1970 the Aswan High Dam (阿斯旺高坝) was built. This huge dam controls the water of the river to produce power, irrigate (灌溉) the farmland and provide drinking water for homes. More than 95% of the people in Egypt depend on its water and live within a few miles of the river banks.
The Nile is not just important to humans. The river and its banks are home to lots of wild animals, including different kinds of fish and birds.
To show their gratitude and respect to this great river, the Egyptians have a two-week holiday in August called Wafaa El-Nil to celebrate the ancient flooding of the Nile.

Recently, some of those mountain climbers have received help from robotic exoskeletons (外骨骼) that add power to their legs.

It weighs just 1.8 kilograms, and people wear it around the waist (腰) and legs. The exoskeletons with AI can help with the users’ movements to stop their legs from getting too tired.
The trial was run by Taishan Cultural Tourism Group (TCTG), working with the company that made the exoskeletons, Kenqing Technology. Wang Houzhe of the TCTG said that the exoskeletons were introduced to help older people enjoy climbing the mountain. According to the report, half the people who used the exoskeletons during the trial at Mount Tai were older people.
Besides helping older people and hikers, Kenqing Technology believes that its product could be used to help rescue teams, factory workers, and disabled people.

Table manners are important in our life. Different countries have different customs, and learning about them helps us behave well and show respect to others.
In China, people usually share food together. We use chopsticks to eat, but playing with them or pointing at others is seen as a rude action. It is polite to wait for the elders to sit down and start eating first. We also need to eat quietly and not make too much noise.
In Japan, people always say “itadakimasu” before meals to thank for the food. It is polite to eat up all the food on your plate. When eating noodles, it is OK to make a little noise, because it shows you really enjoy the food.
In many Western countries such as Britain and France, people use knives and forks. They usually have their own plates of food. Don’t talk with food in your mouth or make loud sounds while eating.
In Thailand, people use forks and spoons instead of chopsticks. They never touch food with their left hand, because it is thought impolite.
Knowing different table manners helps us understand different cultures better. When we follow local customs, we can get on well with people from other countries and become more polite and thoughtful.

Warmth in Bad Weather
Bad weather always brings trouble, but it can also bring warm moments. Last Friday afternoon, it suddenly rained heavily when I was ready to go home after school. I didn’t take an umbrella and had to stand at the school gate helplessly.
Just then, a kind stranger noticed me. He walked over and shared his umbrella with me. He walked with me all the way to my community gate. I wanted to thank him, but he just smiled and left.
This small kindness warmed my whole heart. I learned that warmth always exists even on bad days.
