Body language is a very important part of communication, but do you know the same gesture can mean different things in different countries
Nodding your head usually means “YES”. Especially in Japan, nodding and bowing are the ways that locals show their agreement and respect. But in Bulgaria (保加利亚) and Greece, nodding up and down means “NO”.
Strong eye contact is very common in Spain, Greece and Arab (阿拉伯的) countries. However, in Finland and Japan, too much eye contact is considered rude. To avoid embarrassment, they often look at the other person’s neck or shoulders instead.
Tapping your nose means “secret” in England while it means “be careful” in Italy.
In many cultures, like Italy and the U.S., people use their arms freely when talking. However, Northern Europeans don’t like gesturing with their arms. They think it is too dramatic (戏剧化的). Similarly, in Japan, gesturing with broad arm movements is thought to be impolite.
The “thumbs up” sign is another interesting example. In the U.S., it usually means “good job” or “everything is okay”. But in some Middle-Eastern countries like Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Iran, this gesture is very offensive. It’s like a very bad word.
Understanding these differences helps us avoid misunderstandings. When you travel or talk to someone from a different culture, pay attention to their body language. You can make a big difference in how well you communicate!

Chicken Run is the first full-length feature film from Aardman Animation, home of the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit. The movie Chicken Run first came out in 2000. It was one of the most popular animated films at that time. Now there is another episode, Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget.
Chicken Run is about a chicken named Ginger. She and her friends are trying to run away from an evil farm with the help from brave cock Rocky. In Dawn of the Nugget, the chickens are living happily on an island. When Ginger and Rocky’s daughter, Molly, leaves the island for the outside world, the group tries to bring her home.
It took three years to finish making the second movie. “There are shots that took six months to film,” the movie’s director, Sam Fell, told reporters.
Fell said, “Chickens are usually not brave. They’re such small animals. People just think they’re weak.” He said that giving them a brave heart and putting them in a dangerous world makes their story popular.
