No matter what you do, the first time is often both important and difficult. As an old saying goes, “The first step is always the hardest.”
When I was eight, my mother took me to learn calligraphy (书法) . Not knowing anything in a new environment, I felt shy and nervous. But the kind teacher made me relax, and I began my first lesson.
The teacher guided my hand to write on rice paper. After watching him create a beautiful character, I thought it was easy and I believed I could do it right away. But when I tried myself, my writing was messy. Even after many attempts (尝试) , I couldn’t write well. I grew disappointed and impatient. Later, I wanted to stop trying.
Then the teacher came to me and said softly, “Calm down and take your time. It’s not that hard.” His words cheered me up like a beam (束) of light.
Following his advice, I wrote slowly and calmly. After hours of practice, my handwriting improved. From then on, I formed the habit of practicing calligraphy patiently every day.
This taught me to always try my best from the beginning and never give up easily. This idea helps me face difficulties in life. Even if I don’t succeed in the end, I won’t regret (后悔) having the courage to take that first step.

Earth is home to millions of different plants and animals. This rich variety of life is called biodiversity. Biodiversity plays an important role in keeping nature balanced and healthy.

For example, bees help plants grow by carrying pollen from one flower to another. Without bees, many plants would not be able to produce (产出) fruit.
________. Forests are being cut down, rivers are polluted, and many animals are losing their homes. As a result, some species are becoming endangered, and a few have already disappeared forever. When one species (物种) disappears, others may also be affected, and the balance of nature can be broken.
Protecting biodiversity is not only the job of scientists or governments. Everyone can play a part. We can save water, reduce waste, and choose environmentally friendly products. Planting trees and protecting wild animals are also helpful ways to care for our planet.

A Small Robot, A Big Help
Science and technology are becoming part of students’ daily life. In many schools, new tools are used not only for study, but also for solving real problems.
At a middle school in Hubei, a group of eighth graders designed a small “library robot” for their school. The robot was not expensive. It had a camera, a speaker and a simple map of the library. When students typed in the name of a book, the robot could guide them to the correct shelf. It could also read out short library rules, such as “Keep quiet” and “Return books on time”.
This term, students spent three weeks building and testing the robot. At first, it often got lost because the shelves looked similar. Later, the students added clear signs on the floor and improved the robot’s map. After that, it worked much better. More students began to use it, especially new students who didn’t know the library well.
The project brought another change: students started to care more about reading. The robot made borrowing books easier, so some students visited the library more often than before. However, the teacher reminded them that technology should not replace people. Students still needed to communicate politely with the librarian and follow rules by themselves.
In the end, the robot taught the students an important lesson: technology is most meaningful when it makes life better and helps people develop good habits.
