“Singing is the start of music. By singing, we make ourselves physically part of music and music part of us,” writes composer Andrew Ford, host of The Music Show.
Songs have a powerful effect on us. Has anyone discovered the joy of singing in a choir Mary works as a busy teacher, and choir practice nights are simply her “sanity”. “There are nights when even I don’t feel like going to choir but by the time we’ve finished, I’m glad I came,” said Mary.
Research says choiring is really good for you. By monitoring the health signs of members of a choir, Bjorn Vickoff at Sweden University discovered the singers’ hearts started to beat in step with their breathing. There seemed to be a wave of air moving through the group, making them feel connected as one. Research has proved that choiring has comforting effects similar to those that come from breathing exercises in yoga.
Singing also produces hormones (荷尔蒙) and other happy chemicals, fighting against depression and loneliness. Singers have been found to have lower levels of stress after choiring. And a later study also found that singing relieves anxiety and that group singing can be especially beneficial to the health of older adults.
At the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, choir after choir was put on stage by singers with no big names. But this is real music to Tony Backhouse’s ears. The choirmaster spent three decades in Australia founding and working with choral groups. “If I were asked to redesign the Australian educational system, I would start by insisting that group singing become a central part of the daily routine. I believe it builds character and, more than anything else, encourage a taste for cooperation with others,” said Tony. For him, the meaning of group singing is “cooperation, rather than competition. Singing teaches us to listen, which is a great gift. In my community choir, it’s about creating something amazing together, and we really aim to make every rehearsal a thing of joy and beauty.”
4. What does the underlined “sanity” probably mean
A. Relief.
B. Routine.
C. Duty.
D. Suffering.
5. According to Bjorn Vickoff’s study, what caused the change of the singers’ heart rates
A. Their long-term practice.
B. The monitoring machine.
C. The rhythm of their breathing.
D. The airflow condition on the stage.
6. How does choiring benefit singers
A. It lowers stress level.
B. It raises the singers’ heart rate.
C. It builds physical strength.
D. It reduces chemicals in their bodies.
7. What can we infer from Tony Backhouse’s words about choiring
A. It’s a recent educational trend in Australia.
B. It is especially helpful for singers with no big names.
C. It should replace other subjects in the educational system.
D. It helps students develop good qualities and teamwork spirit.

For many, travel isn’t just about the destination — it’s about making the most of the journey. However, for a lot of people, the journey is often ruined by an uncomfortable experience often accompanied by vomiting (呕吐), known as motion sickness. If you’ve ever felt the unwelcome urge to vomit while reading or using your device in a moving vehicle, you’re not alone. Recognizing this common issue, Apple has stepped up to offer a solution: the Vehicle Motion Cues feature (功能) for iPhones and iPads.
Motion sickness occurs when there is a disconnect between what your eyes see and what your body feels. When you’re in a moving vehicle, your body senses motion through its vestibular system (the inner ear), but if your eyes are focused on a still screen that doesn’t reflect this movement, the brain receives mixed signals. This sensory (感官的) conflict can lead to dizziness (头晕), nausea, and overall discomfort — symptoms (症状) all too familiar to motion sickness sufferers.
Apple’s new Vehicle Motion Cues feature is designed to bridge this gap and bring relief to those likely to experience motion sickness. This feature works by showing animated (动画的) dots around your screen, which move at the same time and speed as the motion of your vehicle. These moving cues help keep the motion your body feels in agreement with what your eyes see. effectively reducing the sensory mismatch that causes motion sickness. By matching the visual input with the physical sensations of motion, your brain is less likely to experience the confusion that leads to sickness.
Early reports and user feedback (反馈) indicate that Vehicle Motion Cues is receiving high praise for its effectiveness. So next time you embark on a journey, whether short or long, remember that Apple’s got your back — or rather, your brain - helping you make the most of every mile with ease and comfort.
8. Which type of people can be interested in Vehicle Motion Cues
A. Frequent travelers.
B. Book lovers.
C. Vehicle operators.
D. Sport scientists.
9. What is paragraph 2 mainly about
A. The principle of Apple’s new design.
B. The cause of motion sickness.
C. The functions of Apples new design.
D. The symptoms of motion sickness.
10. By displaying animated dots around the screen, Apple's Vehicle Motion Cues is able to ______.
A. ease sensory conflicts in the brain
B. tell the mismatched physical sensations
C. balance the movement of our eyes and body
D. increase the effectiveness of vehicle motion
11. Which can be the best title of the passage
A. Make the Most of Your Journey: Apple Bridges the Gap
B. Find the Magic of a Moving Vehicle: Apple’s Got Your Back
C. Enjoy Your Reading: Apple Offers a Revolutionary Solution
D. Say Goodbye to Motion Sickness: Apple Introduces Its New Design

When planning my wedding, I was determined not to get caught up in the “perfect day”, but to have a relaxed, informal celebration. My husband and I ended up having a lovely time.
“Pursuit of perfection is a prison,” says Moya Sarner, an NHS psychotherapist. Many of us are driven by the unconscious (下意识的) wish that if we could just have the perfect body, the perfect job and the perfect family, then we would be happy. For that reason, it can be one of the most significant barriers to happiness in life.
The psychoanalyst Donald Winnicott wrote about the importance of the “good enough mother” who meets her baby’s needs timely, but is not perfect. He said perfect is harmful. To meet every desire immediately, to pass the toy straight away whenever it is demanded slows down a baby’s growth, robbing them of the opportunity to feel frustrated (沮丧的) and learn to crawl to get the toy for themselves.
Winnicott believed that while perfection is not a virtue, tolerance of imperfection is. If we cannot develop the capacity to tolerate imperfection in ourselves and in those around us, we can have no self-confidence, no sustainable relationships and no fulfilling career. If we’re always trying to build something called a perfect life, we aren’t really living the one we’re in.
How do I know all this I am a perfectionist in recovery. I’ve started to recognize my intolerance of imperfection — my need for certain things to be exactly as I would like them to be, from the way my husband chops his onions to my terror of being late — and it has made a huge difference to my relationship and my parenting. How can you be a good partner if you expect everyone else to fit your own narrow expectations How can your child grow if they sense that they always need to color precisely inside the lines you’ve drawn out for them
We need to go further than tolerating imperfections. We need to learn to appreciate their humanity and beauty. Imperfections are why people will pay a calligrapher to handwrite invitations when a computer can produce a flawless (完美的) version of the same script for less money and in less time. So for a more delicious life, and ultimately a better one, I choose imperfectionism.
12. How does the author introduce the topic
A. By presenting a successful ceremony.
B. By showing her firm determination.
C. By describing her personal experience.
D. By introducing her perfect marriage.
13. What can we learn from the example of the “good enough mother”
A. Raising a child brings a mother much joy.
B. Pursuing perfection is the duty of mothers.
C. Meeting babies’ demands is very challenging.
D. Responding instantly impacts babies’ growth.
14. What is the function of the two questions at the end of Paragraph 5
A. To shift topics.
B. To make assumptions.
C. To arouse interest.
D. To encourage thinking.
15. Which of the following might the author approve of
A. A miss is as good as a mile.
B. Haste makes waste.

第三节 应用文范文
Is AI Beneficial to Our Learning
In my opinion, AI is really helpful for our study.
First, AI offers personalized learning resources. It can analyze our weak points in subjects and recommend targeted exercises. For example, English AI tools provide custom vocabulary drills for students poor at memorizing words.
Besides, AI acts as a 24-hour learning helper. Whenever we meet confusing math formulas or grammar rules, AI can explain them patiently without time limits.
All in all, AI greatly removes barriers in our learning process if we use it properly.
