Chinese cuisine is characterized by its rich flavors, varied tastes, and fine cooking methods. In China, eight major cooking styles have developed, each with its own special tastes. Here are four representative styles.
Sichuan Cuisine – Bold and Spicy
Sichuan Cuisine has a long history from the Western Han Dynasty. Marked by spicy and numbing (麻的) flavour, it relies on Sichuan pepper and Pixian bean paste to create over twenty varied tastes. High-quality water source from Dujiangyan helps its development.
Jiangsu Cuisine – Delicate and Fine
Jiangsu Cuisine dates from the Sui Dynasty. It is well-known for a gentle mix of light, sweet, and salty tastes. Its beauty comes from careful cutting and exact temperature control. Popular dishes like Lion’s Head Meatballs and Yangzhou Fried Rice keep food’s natural taste. Favored by Qing emperors, it shows a peaceful and balanced way of cooking.
Guangdong Cuisine – Elegant and Fresh
Guangdong cuisine originated from the Qin Dynasty. Famous for its fresh ingredients and delicate, natural flavors, it emphasizes the true essence of each component. Various ingredients are prepared through steaming, stir-frying, and slow simmering. Guangdong cuisine shows balance and harmony. Signature dishes like dim sum and roast goose are loved worldwide.
Shandong Cuisine – Salty and Tasty
Shandong cuisine took shape in the Spring and Autumn Period. Specialized in seafood and wheat-based food, it uses techniques including quick-frying, braising(焖), and stewing. Classic food such as Braised Sea Cucumber with Scallions(葱烧海参) has salty taste and thick soup. Popular in old royal kitchens, it greatly affects northern Chinese food.

Chinese motorcycle brand ZXMOTO won two World Supersport races in Portugal, beating world-famous competitors. It was a great breakthrough for the new brand in a field long controlled by European and Japanese companies.
The thrilling victories spread quickly online. Zhang Xue, the founder of ZXMOTO, burst into tears and commented on social media, “It is not about winning a prize. It is about loving the ride. And that, perhaps, changes everything.” Industry experts said the success of this self-developed motorcycle showed fast progress in China’s high-end (高端的) manufacturing.
Born in a Hunan village in 1987, Zhang developed a deep passion for motorcycles in his childhood. At 16, he worked in a motorcycle repair shop and tried his best to achieve his racing dream. At 19, he chased a TV staff over 100 kilometers in a heavy rain for a screen opportunity, which finally earned him a spot on a professional racing team. In 2024, he founded his own brand ZXMOTO and later set up his own company.
Though the brand suffered financial losses from heavy investment (投资) in technology, its continuous efforts have begun to pay off. Sales orders for new motorcycles increased greatly after the championship, and the company also got new investment successfully.
Analysts believe ZXMOTO’s rise signals a major shift in China’s motorcycle industry. Instead of competing merely on low prices, local brands are entering the high-end market, competing head-to-head with global competitors by upgrading performance and core technology.
For Zhang Xue, the world championship is merely a new starting point.
24. What can we infer from Zhang Xue’s words in Paragraph 2
A. Passion comes first. B. Public attention matters.
C. Online comment works. D. Victory means everything.
25. Which of the following best describes Zhang Xue
A. Honest and modest. B. Innovative and generous.
C. Clever and diligent. D. Determined and devoted.
26. What helps Chinese motor brands compete with global giants
A. More local brands. B. Advanced key technology.
C. Stable performance. D. High pricing strategy.
27. What can we learn from the passage
A. The early bird catches the worm. B. Great hopes make great man.
C. A bird in hands is worth two in bushes. D. Lost time is never found again.

ChatGPT has been described as having impressive, humanlike skills — writing academic essays and fairy tales, telling jokes, explaining scientific concepts, and composing computer code. Researchers were curious to see how smart ChatGPT was by human standards, so they gave it an IQ test.
The AI turned out to be a perfect test taker free from test anxiety or negative attitudes toward exams. It got full marks in all five parts without difficulty. In the Vocabulary test, it gave precise definitions of words like “gadget”. It also topped the Information test covering general knowledge. However, when doing the Similarities test asking for shared features of fictional roles, it tended to give unnecessarily long detailed answers. Besides, it correctly solved practical questions in the Comprehension part and all calculation problems in Arithmetic. Finally, ChatGPT scored 155 in IQ, ahead of 99.9% of human testees, far above the average score of college-educated people. Even the researchers scored lower in the same test.
Nevertheless, a high IQ doesn’t equal true human intelligence. ChatGPT fails to handle riddles calling for natural logical thinking. For example, it couldn’t figure out a simple riddle about Sebastian’s kid’s father, for it only searched its stored online data instead of reasoning.
According to classic theories, IQ tests measure a general factor of human intelligence. Yet ChatGPT’s contradictory performance — outstanding test scores paired with poor real-world reasoning — challenges the traditional definition of intelligence. It proves IQ tests cannot measure all sides of true intelligence, which may cast doubt on the reliability of IQ tests.
28. What is the first paragraph mainly about
A. Research theory. B. Research method. C. Research process. D. Research background.
29. In which test did the AI perform imperfectly
A. Vocabulary. B. Information. C. Similarities. D. Comprehension.
30. Why does ChatGPT fail to solve the riddles
A. The riddles are boring. B. It lacks online data.
C. The riddles are illogical . D. It lacks reasoning ability.
31. What does the underlined word “It” refer to in the last sentence
A. ChatGPT’s performance. B. True human intelligence level.
C. The reliability of IQ tests. D. Traditional definition of intelligence.

Global temperatures have been rising for decades, but scientists say it is now happening faster than ever. A Washington Post analysis, using NASA data from 1880 to 2025, found that since the 1970s, the Earth has warmed steadily because of large amounts of greenhouse gas emissions. However, things changed in recent years: 2023, 2024 and 2025 were much warmer than the previous trend.
From 1970 to 2010, the world warmed at about 0.19°C per decade. But in the past 10 years, this rate rose to nearly 0.27°C per decade — a 42% increase. The last 11 years have been the warmest on record. Berkeley Earth’s analysis shows the last three years are unlikely to be caused only by natural changes.
One reason for faster warming is the reduction of sulfate aerosols (硫酸盐气溶胶). These tiny particles once cooled the Earth by blocking sunlight, but countries have cut aerosol pollution since the 2000s. Global sulfur dioxide emissions have dropped by 40%, and ship sulfur emissions (船舶硫排放) fell by 85% due to new rules.
Another factor may be fewer low-lying clouds. These clouds reflect sunlight, so their decrease warms the planet. Researchers found 13% of 2023’s record heat could not only be explained by aerosols, but by less cloud cover as well. Clouds are still an uncertainty in climate science, but they may cool the Earth less now.
Scientists disagree slightly: some wait for more data, while others see clear acceleration. Rohde noted the Earth’s energy imbalance has grown, meaning more solar energy stays on the planet. He warned the past warming rate cannot predict the future, and humans must prepare for faster temperature rises and their risks.
32. How did the researchers make their conclusion
A. By analyzing previous data. B. By making field research.
C. By reviewing former findings. D. By conducting case study.
33. Which of the following contributes to the faster global warming
A. More greenhouse gas emissions. B. Increased sulfate aerosols in the atmosphere.
C. The decrease of low-lying clouds. D. Less strict rules on ship sulfur emissions.
34. What was Rohde’s attitude towards high warming rate
A. Concerned. B. Cautious. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. Solar Energy is Increasing B. Solar Heating is Improving
C. Global Warming is Quickening D. Global Temperature is Rising
