Dear Tom,
Thank you for your letter! Your congratulations really made my day. Since you’re curious about
the “Student of the Month” award, here’s the inside story.
This monthly award honors those who bring positive energy to our campus. It’s not just about
acing exams; it’s about character. This time, I believe I caught the judges’ attention through my
"Green Campus" initiative. I led a passionate team to launch a recycling campaign, which turned
our messy waste corners into tidy spots. My teachers remarked that it was my can-do attitude that
truly made a difference.
Does your school have any similar tradition I’d love to know!
Best wishes,
Li Hua
Finally, it was time for my solo. I walked up to the microphone and looked out into the darkened
hall. My legs began to shake. I held the mic stand for support, and Mrs. McKee started the piano. I
took a deep breath and began, “Have a holly, jolly Christmas…” I was so focused on breathing,
singing and remembering the words I that totally forgot my anxiety. The music ended, and the
applause rang out.
As the audience cheered for my solo, I glanced at Mrs. McKee at the piano. She beamed at me
from beside the piano, her eyes sparkling with pride. I left the stage, full of happiness. My
parents greeted me with a big h ug. My friends cheered me on. That moment, I realized I had stepped
beyond the girl who hid in the seco nd row — I had found the brave voice I once only drea med of.
