● The kangaroo mouse (更格卢鼠) never needs to drink water.
The kangaroo mouse is named after an Australian animal. It lives in the Nevada desert and doesn’t need to drink water. It has been used to the dry environment by getting all the water it needs from the seeds it eats.
● Clams (蛤蜊) have feet.
It seems clams have a big tongue that sometimes reaches out from their shell to search around the ocean floor, but in fact what you’re seeing is a foot. This foot, longer than the clam’s shell, helps them dig in the sand on the ocean floor.

“Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” makes us think the stars are sparkling (闪烁的), but it’s actually a “space mirage (幻景)”. The light from stars is steady, but Earth’s atmosphere (大气层) makes them seem to twinkle.

The Last Kids on Earth is a series of books by Max Brallier. The first book of this best-selling series came out in 2015. And its graphic (漫画) version was published in 2024. Together with a good painter Brian Churilla, Max Brallier gave graphic-novel lovers a chance to connect with this magical story.
The story takes place in a town called Wakefield. It’s written from the view of 13-year-old Jack Sullivan. The story uses the end of the world as the setting for there won’t be any rules at that time. For a kid, there are rules everywhere. If we want to go outside at midnight, we can’t. But if the world was ending, we could!
Jack, the hero of the graphic novel, tries to make the apocalypse (末日) more fun. He teams up with his best friend Quint and the school bully, Dirk Savage. Jack’s most exciting exploration is to save a girl named June del Toro. He believes June needs a hero, but later he finds that she clearly doesn’t need to be saved. Instead, ▲ . When the four kids want to leave together the next day, a monster (怪物) called Blarg is waiting for them outside. Do they make it out alive
I think of The Last Kids on Earth: The Graphic Novel as an adventure novel first, rather than a horror (恐怖) one. Although there are horrible characters in it, it is an adventure story: the action, the comedy, with a little bit of horror. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy comedy, action, and monsters.
8. What is the text
A.A news report.
B.A diary entry.
C.A book review.
D.A research paper.
9. What can we infer from Paragraph 2
A.Kids are afraid to go outside.
B.Kids hope to become heroes.
C.Kids get on badly with parents.
D.Kids want to be free from rules.
10. Which of the following can be put in the ▲ in Paragraph 3
A.he asks Quint to save June.
B.he runs away alone at once.
C.he invites June to join them.
D.he keeps fighting the monster.
11. What can we know from the text
A.The book was written by Brian Churilla.
B.The book is a magical adventure novel.
C.The first graphic book came out in 2015.
D.The story is about how to stop bullying.
