“If you wish,” said the Lion, “I will go into the forest and kill a deer for you. You can roast it by the fire, since your tastes are so special that you prefer cooked food, and then you will have a very good breakfast.”
“Don’t! Please don’t,” begged the Tin Woodman, “I should certainly weep if you killed a poor deer, and then my jaws would rust (生锈) again.”
But the Lion went away into the forest and found his own supper, and no one ever knew what it was, for he didn’t mention it. And the Scarecrow found a tree full of nuts and filled Dorothy’s basket with them, so that she would not be hungry for a long time. She thought this was very kind and thoughtful of the Scarecrow, but she laughed heartily at the awkward way in which the poor creature picked up the nuts. His padded hands were so clumsy and the nuts were so small that he dropped almost as many as he put in the basket.
But the Scarecrow did not mind how long it took him to fill the basket, for it enabled him to keep away from the fire, as he feared a spark might get into his straw and burn him up. So he kept a good distance away from the flames, and only came near to cover Dorothy with dry leaves when she lay down to sleep. These kept her very snug and warm, and she slept soundly until morning.

①Marathon pacers (马拉松配速员), also called “rabbits”, are good runners. They run at a fixed speed (固定速度) and help other runners finish the race as planned. They carry signs or balloons, and these things show their target finish time (目标完赛时间).
②Besides introducing pacers, marathons have different pace groups for runners. A marathon usually has 10 to 15 pacers. Every pacer leads one speed group. Small marathons set new groups every 15 minutes. Big marathons set groups every 5 minutes. If you hope to finish the race in 3 hours and 30 minutes, follow the 3:30 group pacer.
③Running with a pacer has many advantages (好处). First, they help you keep a proper (合适的) speed. If you run too fast at the start, you will soon feel tired and slow down later. If you start too slowly, you can hardly speed up at the end. You just need to stay close to your pacer and don’t worry about your speed.
④Besides controlling speed, pacers cheer you up when you feel terrible during the race. Lots of runners get their best scores with a pacer’s help. Some runners even follow two pacers separately for the first and second half of the race.
⑤It is difficult to be a marathon pacer. You need to finish many marathons before and know well how to control the running speed for others.
37.What can you see on a marathon pacer’s sign
A. How old they are.
B. When the race begins.
C. Their past running records (成绩).
D. The time they want to finish the race.
38.Which of the following sentences is TRUE according to the passage
A. You need the 3:00 pacer to finish in 3:30.
B. One pacer takes charge of one pace group.
C. Pacers can only help runners control their speed.
D. Small marathons set pace groups every 5 minutes.
39.What’s the structure of this passage
A. ①/②/③④/⑤ B. ①②/③④/⑤ C. ①②③/④⑤ D. ①/②③④/⑤

Believe it or not, milk tea has a very long history in China. It appeared more than 1,000 years ago.
Long long ago, people in north China raised cows for milk. People in south China grew tea plants. With trade and cultural exchanges, people slowly mixed milk and tea together.
In Sui and Tang dynasties, lots of milk food came to central China. Rich people and people working in the palace liked to put su, a kind of sour milk, into their tea. It tasted different and nice.
In Yuan Dynasty, milk tea became popular with common people. People could buy it in tea houses. Ancient milk tea was salty, not sweet like today’s milk tea. Northern people drank it after eating meat, because it was easy for them to digest food and gave them vitamins (维生素).
In Qing Dynasty, milk tea was more than a drink. People used it in big palace ceremonies (仪式). The palace kept special cows and clean spring water just for making milk tea. After big activities, emperors gave milk tea to their officers. Emperor Qianlong loved milk tea most. He even wrote poems to talk about how good it was.
Today, different milk tea is popular in China and other countries. We need to know its history and protect our Chinese food culture. We can tell this story to our friends and foreign visitors. When we keep this old tradition alive, we will love our culture more and let Chinese milk tea culture shine forever.
