Sometimes, making someone happy is easy; just say a few words that really satisfy him.
From strangers to your family and closest friends, there are many nice things we can say to them to bring a little kindness to the world.
However, some people find it difficult to say something nice to others. Recently, the topic “Don’t feel ashamed to give praise” has gone popular on social media. People shared personal experiences when they felt too shy to say something nice about someone. They also expressed their worries: “What if others think my words are just flattery (奉承) ” “What if I praise someone and only get the cold shoulder ” Because of these fears, some choose to stay quiet, leaving kind words unsaid.
This small habit seems harmless, but it can hide our true feelings. Little by little, we get used to keeping our praise, care and kindness deep inside. Over time, it can change our relationships and even reduce our own sense of happiness. As a result, we may start to feel distant from others.
In fact, saying something nice doesn’t mean we are trying to please others against our will. Instead, it shows we pay attention to the strengths and efforts of those around us, and we value and respect them.
A simple and sincere praise can warm someone’s heart, reduce misunderstandings (误会) and bring people together. So next time you see your friend wearing a beautiful coat, why not give him sincere praise For example, you can focus on details like “This colour looks great on you!” or “You really have good taste in music!” These kind words not only make your friend happy but also create a pleasant feeling between you.
Kind words cost nothing, but they can mean everything.
29. Why do some people find it hard to praise others

A.praise about clothing is always the perfect choice
B.a simple and detailed praise can build a good relationship

Finding a snail Catching it Easy—they hardly move!
To tell the truth, I wasn’t raised to be a fan of snails. Having a grandmother as a gardener, my brother and I were taught from a young age that if we see a snail on a plant, we should pick it off. But as I’ve grown older, my view on snails has changed. They bring me a different kind of happiness.
The first time I saw snails as more than just pests was in my garden. A small snail, carrying a hard round shell on its back, moved slowly toward a half-open flower bud and explored it. After a while, the bud bloomed. Watching the snail carefully touching the flower with its tentacles (触角) reminded me of the lyrics “Snails see the beauty in every inch.” At that moment, I realized it takes life slowly but seriously.
Another time, I noticed a little snail moving by. I quickly picked up the snail and placed it in my hand. Accidentally, a few drops of water dripped onto the snail. It was scared by the sudden wetness and quickly retreated into its shell. I thought it would hide inside for at least a couple of minutes, but shortly after that, the snail poked its head out again. It was not just hiding but adjusting.
It’s not just the snail’s movements that make it a symbol of peace, but also its sense of knowing when to re-enter the exciting life. Once, having difficulty with my career, I was walking outside the office on a hot summer day. On my way back, it started to rain. When the raindrops wet the soil, some little friends appeared everywhere. After waiting patiently for the rain, they energetically get going and go. It was also the right moment for me to start over.
So, what is the secret to living like snails It’s not about being sluggish. It’s about being snailish.
34. What did the writer think of snails when she was young
A.They were interesting treasures in the garden.
B.They were harmful to plants and should be killed.
C.They were symbols of peace and calm.
D.They were too slow to be noticed.
35. What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3 mean
A.Snails move slowly and like beautiful things.
B.Snails can see small things clearly.
C.Snails take their time to discover beauty around them.
D.Snails spend all their time looking for beauty.
36. Which is true about snails
A.Snails prefer hot summer days.
B.Snails are afraid of water and will hide for a long time.
C.Snails live a slow and boring life every day.
D.Snails are able to get used to new situations.
37. How can we live a “snailish” life
A.We must stay away from danger in our life.
B.We can do almost everything as slowly as snails do.
C.We should stay calm and know when to move forward.
D.We had better wait for others' help when in trouble.
D
We often consider the city a stressful place. Crowded streets, expensive housing, all kinds of pollution, and a weak sense of community are just a few reasons people may feel this way about city life. Because of this, many people dream of moving to the countryside for a slower pace of life and a closer connection to nature. But what if we look at cities in a new way—not as the opposite of nature, but as a new kind of nature
At first, this idea may sound strange, but it makes us ask two important questions: What is “nature” And what is “city” Many people think nature can be found only in mountains and forests. However, it can also be found in every corner of a city—along a riverbank, in a small park, on a balcony, or in the songs of birds in the trees. In fact, many of our city “neighbors” are animals. In Europe and North America, for example, squirrels are now more common in cities than in forests.
As the dividing line between city and nature becomes blurred, some city designers suggest that we need to start seeing cities as ecosystems (生态系统) for all living things, not just humans. An ecosystem includes both living things (like humans, animals, and plants) and non-living things (like air, water, buildings, and roads). In such a system, everything is connected. Humans and other things share the same space, and our actions influence one another. When we design future cities, we should take every part of this ecosystem into consideration.
Nature is not only “out there” in faraway places. It is also right here, beside us. If we treat the city as nature, we will stop asking where nature begins and start asking how to live better in it.
38. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage
A.Nature only appears in mountains and forests.
B.Squirrels are less common in European cities than in forests.
C.An ecosystem only includes living things like animals and plants.
D.Nature can also be found on a balcony or in a park in a city.
39. What can we learn about the design of future cities from the passage
A.It should only consider human needs.
B.It should treat cities as ecosystems for all living and non-living things.
C.It should separate cities from nature completely.
D.It should build fewer buildings and more forests.
40. What is the main purpose of the passage
A.To list the environment problems of city life.
B.To explain why forests have more animals than cities.
C.To introduce a new way of seeing cities as a part of nature.
D.To tell readers that everyone should move to the countryside.
