When Billie Eilish was 16, she set out on her first headlining tour. Already on her way to becoming a global pop star, she was shocked by the environmental consequences of staging major live shows — the busy tour buses, the generators running at all hours, and the endless stream of plastic water bottles. Raised by a mother with environmental awareness, Eilish had long been used to climate-friendly habits. Still, she was astonished by the true cost of her own concerts.
Now, a report from the nonprofit group Reverb praises her most recent tour as a milestone in green concertgoing. During the 14-month tour, which visited 15 countries, Eilish took practical actions. She offered reusable water bottles, sold goods made from recycled materials, and displayed statistics (数据) showing how everyday behaviors affect the climate. She also partnered with Google Maps to help fans use public transportation and worked with venues to provide plant-based food options. More than 30 venues launched environmental projects with her team, and some changes proved lasting. When vegan (素食) items became a hit at her San Jose show, officials decided to keep them on the menu permanently.
Eilish’s environmental commitment, however, is not a solo effort. It is a family project, spearheaded in large part by her mother, Maggie Baird, a sustainability advocate and the founder of the plant-based food nonprofit. Baird recalls being told early in her daughter’s career that there was little point in worrying about waste. “I was told, ‘This is how the music industry is,’” she says. But Eilish refused to accept old conventions. “Things don’t have to be done the same way they’ve always been done,” she says.
Her influence extends far beyond her own shows. Fans have told her that they became vegan or activists because of her. Her green blueprint has also reached other major bands, including Metallica and Paramore. As Eilish sees it, having a massive platform comes with responsibility. “Why wouldn’t I use it to try to make a difference ” she says.
24. What shocked Eilish during her first headlining tour
A.The popularity of being a pop star.
B.The waste produced by her band.
C.The financial cost of running live shows.
D.The environmental impact of concerts.
25. What can we learn from Eilish’s most recent tour
A.It made vegan food stay on the menu.
B.It banned plastic water bottles.
C.It lasted for more than two years.
D.It required fans to use public transport.
26. What does the underlined word “spearheaded” in paragraph 3 mean
A.Urged.
B.Led.
C.Supported.
D.Doubted.
27. Which of the following words best describe Eilish according to the passage

Antarctica (南极洲) may seem like a frozen wasteland, but beneath its icy surface lies a rich underwater world. Hundreds of feet below the Southern Ocean live icefish, colorful sea plants, and tiny sea creatures. “It blows your mind,” says marine (海洋的) biologist Cristian Lagger. “Antarctica is a rich continent full of life that few people imagine.”
During a recent adventure, Lagger explored the ocean floor with a remotely operated vehicle (ROV) called SuBastian. His team reached an undocumented deep-sea trench (沟). As live video streamed on a monitor, Lagger and his colleagues felt like astronauts exploring a new frontier.
The Southern Ocean plays a critical role in regulating Earth’s climate by absorbing more carbon dioxide than any other ocean. However, as a recent study notes, “terrible conditions make collecting good data difficult.” As a result, much of the seabed remains unexplored. Lagger’s team hopes to discover new species and improve carbon storage estimates, which are essential for understanding climate change.
During a three-week voyage, the team collected samples from seven dives. They used SuBastian’s mechanical arms to gather core samples. Several dives reached depths of more than 2,000 feet, and one got to nearly 13,000 feet — one of the deepest ROV dives in the Southern Ocean. Lagger explains that while shallower waters are affected by climate change, deeper environments have remained almost unchanged for centuries, untouched and primitive. “It’s like a time machine,” he says, “as if we can see what ocean communities were like hundreds of years ago.”
The dives provide a rare opportunity to create a reference standard of deep-sea health, helping scientists detect early signs of change. Lagger believes the data will strengthen the case for more marine protected areas around Antarctica. As he points out, “What happens at the frozen edge does not stay there.” The health of the Southern Ocean, he stresses, is linked to the well-being of the entire planet.
28. How did Lagger and his team explore the ocean floor
A.By analyzing samples.
B.By using SuBastian.
C.By diving to the bottom.
D.By watching previous videos.
29. Why does Lagger describe the deep ocean as “a time machine”
A.It is easy to reach.
B.It supports diverse ocean life.
C.It has barely changed.
D.It has been damaged by humans.
30. What is the value of the dives
A.Finding new kinds of sea fish.
B.Helping set deep-sea health standards.
C.Marking the size of protected areas.
D.Providing records of weather changes.
31. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A.Smart Vehicle Saves the Entire Planet
B.Deep Sea Dives Are Gaining Popularity
C.Cristian Lagger Explores Antarctic Deep
D.The Southern Ocean Is a Treasure House

When you try to recall something, do you automatically reach for your phone and look it up You may have experienced the Google effect, often called “digital amnesia (健忘症).”
American psychologists began discussing this phenomenon in the early 2010s. In their study, participants were asked to read and type 40 interesting facts. Half of the participants were told these sentences would be saved on the computer, while the other half were told they would be deleted. Everyone was then asked to write down as many facts as possible from memory. It turned out that people who thought the information would be saved remembered less than those who believed it would be lost.
One of the main reasons we experience digital amnesia is the spread of technology and instant access to vast amounts of information. Neuroscientists note that the strength of memory is directly linked to how often we recall: the more often you recall a piece of information, the better it is kept up. However, the rise of search engines and quick access to knowledge have made turning to our own memories less necessary.
The worse we concentrate on information, the harder it becomes to remember it. The flow of information never stops, and attention has become the most easily lost abilities in modern humans. The good news is that it can be trained.
You can start with something simple. Remove distractions (分心的事): turn off notifications (提醒) and put your phone away. Physical exercise helps, too. The better your heart and lungs work, the more easily your brain can stay focused.
The Internet is not the enemy of memory, but a powerful tool, if we use it wisely. The strength of the human mind does not lie in the amount of data we memorize. True intelligence lies in the ability to ask questions, understand connections, doubt, seek evidence, and create something new. Let search engines answer your questions, and let you learn to see meaning behind the facts.
32. What does the study of American psychologists suggest
A.Saved facts are easy to recall.
B.Written words are hard to forget.
C.Technology weakens memory.
D.Typing promotes memorization.
33. What is one of the main reasons for the Google effect
A.Worsened brain function.
B.Limited learning resources.
C.Insufficient time for recitation.
D.Ready availability of information.
34. Which of the following can help prevent the Google effect according to paragraph 5
A.Doing some workouts.
B.Prohibiting the use of smart phones.
C.Stopping the spread of information.
D.Practising memorizing information.
35. What can we infer from the last paragraph
A.Search engines create innovative ideas.
B.Memorizing knowledge is the key to wisdom.
C.The Internet is a trustworthy friend of humans.
D.Human intelligence is reflected in deep thinking.

It was a warm and bright sunny day when my 14-year-old daughter Ava came to me with big, begging eyes. She asked me to take care of our neighbour Joyce’s dog Rocco for six weeks. Joyce was leaving for Australia to visit her daughter, who had just given birth to twin babies. Without our help, Rocco, a huge, gentle German Shepherd (牧羊犬) with soft fur and bright eyes, would have to stay alone in a cold, empty kennel (犬舍), and Ava could not bear to see him lonely.
Ava loved Rocco deeply and often ran next door after school to play with him. However, I had been afraid of large dogs since childhood. When I was young, a big dog bit me suddenly, and that painful memory left a deep fear in my heart. Ava could not understand my nervousness. She kept saying, “Rocco is so gentle and friendly, Mum. He would never hurt anyone.” I hesitated. Ava had just moved to a new school. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces, she grew quiet, withdrawn and easily upset, and I wanted to do anything to make her feel safe and happy again.
Then, could I get over my lifelong fear of large dogs because of Ava Nervous and uneasy, I still agreed to take care of Rocco for a one-week trial.
At first, I kept my distance from Rocco and felt nervous every time I saw him. As days went by, I walked him in the local park every morning and evening. Rocco was smart and gentle; he sensed my fear and never jumped on me. He always stayed close to Ava, quiet and loyal. Gradually, I relaxed and even enjoyed our walks. I met many friendly dog owners and talked with them, becoming more outgoing.
To help Ava open up more and gain confidence, I brought her walking the dog with me on purpose, yet nothing changed until that day. While we were walking, a group of fierce dogs suddenly appeared, surrounding Ava and growling (低声吼叫) angrily.

第二节 读后续写范文
Just as the fierce dogs prepared to attack, Rocco jumped out bravely. He stood firmly in front of Ava, barking loudly to scare the group of dogs away. The fierce dogs hesitated and soon ran off. I was totally shocked by Rocco’s brave move and touched deeply. From that moment, my long-time fear of big dogs disappeared completely. I bent down and stroked Rocco gently, thanking him for protecting my daughter.
That night, Ava talked excitedly about what had happened. She told me she felt much braver with Rocco around. We decided to keep looking after Rocco for the whole six weeks. Every walk became a happy time for us three. I finally understood that true courage comes from love and protection for the people we care about.
