Do you know how to play a musical instrument Have you ever made one Terje Isungset can answer yes to both questions. And he makes instruments out of something pretty cool. Ice!
It’s not just any ice. “You can buy perfect ice from factories around the world. But it will not have any sound,” Isungset says. He gets all of his ice from nature. “It’s nature that decides the sound of the instrument,” he says.
Isungset got the idea for ice music more than 20 years ago. “I was asked to do a concert in a frozen waterfall,” he says. This gave him the idea to play instruments that were actually made out of ice. As far as he could tell, this hadn’t been done before. “There were no books to read about it—nothing on the Internet,” he says, “So I had to create everything by myself.”
In 2006, Isungset helped start the Ice Music Festival in Europe. It is held in February. Almost everything at the Ice Music Festival is frozen. “As you can imagine, there is a lot to prepare for an ice concert,” Isungset says, “We come to a place, we gather the ice, and we build the concert hall out of snow and ice.”
“For the festival, I have a goal of trying to invent a new instrument every year,” Isungset says, “When the show is over, we give everything back to nature.”
Instruments include ice horns. “Would your lips stick to it Many people ask that question,” Isungset says. “If the horn was made out of metal, they would get stuck completely.” His solution Use a small piece of leather. Place it on the horn's mouthpiece. “It's the only part of my instrument that is not made of ice.”
24. What are Isungset’s new instruments mainly made of
A. Metal.

26. What will become of the new instruments after each festival
A. They will be sold to the audience.
B. They will be shown in museums.
C. They will be stored in factories.
D. They will be given back to nature.
27. Which of the following best describes Isungset
A. Romantic.
B. Professional.

“Instagram (a social networking app) will cut out many user’s accounts on December 20. To protect your account, repost this warning KeepMyAccountSafe.” Every few months, it happens again — a dozen of annoying posts from my kids' friends suddenly start to appear on my Instagram news feed.
According to a new study by Stanford University, most kids don’t know what news is fake (假的). Researchers asked more than 7,800 middle school and high school students to complete 56 tasks, like telling the difference between an advertisement and a real news story on a website and determining which blog in a series was most reliable. They found that students judged the credibility (可信性) of blogs based not on the source of the material, but on how much detail they contained, or whether a large photo was attached.
“Many people assume that because young people are fluent in social media, they can recognize fake news, but our work shows the opposite to be true.” wrote lead study author Sam Wineburg, a professor at Stanford's Graduate School of Education.
Both Google and Facebook are now taking steps to control misleading news from making its way to their platforms, but they won’t be able to eliminate it completely. That is why it’s now more important than ever to teach our kids to think critically when it comes to believing various information sources.
“In the coming months, we look forward to sharing our assessments and working with educators to create materials that will guide young people in the sea of disinformation they encounter online,”said Wineburg.
28. How does the author introduce the topic of the passage
A. By explaining a saying.
B. By showing findings.
C. By quoting a post.
D. By stating opinions.
29. What determines the credibility of online information according to researchers
A. The amount of detail.
B. The source of the material.
C. The popularity of the website.
D. The size of relevant photos.
30. What does the underlined word “eliminate” in paragraph 4 mean
A. Remove.
B. Update.
C. Download.
D. Rate.
31. Which of the following can be the best title for the text
A. Reliable News Has No Place on Social Media
B. Educators Have a Long Way to Go to Guide the Young
C. Stronger Together: The Internet Changes Our Life
D. Be Careful: Kids Are Bad at Identifying Fake News
D
Remember Malcolm Caldwell’s famous “10,000-hour rule” from his book Outliers It proposed that achieving mastery in any field required roughly 10,000 hours of practice, emphasizing the importance of early professionalization and intensive practice for becoming an elite (精英) in a particular field.
This approach, known as deliberate practice, encourages setting goals from a young age, investing time, and specializing in a specific field. On paper, it sounds like the surefire (必定成功的) path to success, but when we deeply study the lives of elite athletes, musicians, and scholars, we find a different story.
In reality, many individuals who have risen to the top of their respective fields took a more diverse and circuitous (曲折的) route. They often explored a wide range of activities, gained a broad skill set, and only specialized at a later stage in life. Studies have shown that an approach called the “sampling period” is often more effective for achieving success. During this phase, individuals try various activities, gain diverse skills, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and only choose a field to specialize in once they have a clearer understanding of their passions and abilities.
Consider the journey of Roger Federer, one of the greatest tennis players of all time. At the age of 6, he dabbled (涉足) in rugby, skiing, and wrestling, only returning to tennis later. The trial period benefited him not just because he found his true passion but also because his experiences in various sports enriched his tennis game with a unique set of skills.
Setting strict goals for children from a young age, driven by the deliberate practice model, may not be the ideal path to success. The concept of the “sampling period” offers a more flexible and effective approach. It allows individuals to explore their interests, gain diverse skills, and discover their true passions.
In a world marked by constant change and complexity, the ability to draw knowledge from a range of experiences is a critical skill for achieving excellence and innovation. So, perhaps it’s time to reconsider the way we nurture the talents and ambitions of the next generation.
32. What is the key to becoming elite in a field according to the book Outliers
A. Long and continuous practice.
B. The determination to try different activities.
C. The correct practice method.
D. The professional instruction.
33. What do many people who have excelled in their fields share according to paragraph 3
A. They all have been passionate about their careers from an early age.
B. They all tried many things before focusing on their fields.
C. They all have strong determination to succeed.
D. They all achieved success in their fields at an old age.
34. Why is Roger Federer mentioned in paragraph 4
A. To provide a suggestion.
B. To serve as an example.
C. To make a comparison.
D. To propose a spirit.
35. What can be learned from the last two paragraphs
A. Parents should not set goals for kids at an early age.
B. It is never too late to start following your passion.
C. Experience is more important than success.
D. Children should be taught about the complexity of the world.

Thin, average, and undisciplined I was the failure of the boys' basketball tryouts(选拔赛) in seventh grade. Making the team was very important to me, and I couldn't wait to get a place. Although I was extremely nervous, I truly thought I would make the team. But I went in overly optimistic, and quickly faced a cruel reality.
When on the court, I breathed like an old man on his last legs. Clearly, I was out of shape and having trouble keeping up. When it hit me that this was only the first day, and that there was a second to follow, I realized I would have to step it up in order to gain a place on the team.
Unfortunately, day two went exactly like day one: I missed shots and passed basketball badly like an out-of-breath fool. Hoping the coach was not watching all my bad moves, I had trouble keeping a positive attitude. Finally, the coach, who usually seemed small, posted the lists of the Boys A and B Teams. Everybody quickly ran to catch a glimpse of the chosen few.
After scanning the list once, twice, three times, my name was nowhere. Although I had predicted the disaster that now settled on me, with my head hanging, I slowly walked to the car. This experience definitely did not go as I had planned.
On the way home, I complained, “How could that little foolish boy be a better choice than me And ...”
“Adam!” my mum cut me off. “Why don’t you realize maybe you need a little more practice You’d better go to basketball camps next summer.”
Although I did not want to believe her, I knew it was true, Failing to make the team was nobody’s fault but mine. Right then and there, in the middle of my anger, I realized I had to spring into action.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
Paragraph 1:
Then I threw myself into as many basketball opportunities as I could find.

Good morning, everyone! I am honored to introduce to you a traditional Chinese festival—the Spring Festival. To the Chinese people, the Spring Festival is as important as Christmas to people in the West.
It comes between late January and early February. The Spring Festival evolves from the worship of praying for the new year at the beginning of the year. Before Lunar New Year's Day, people usually clean and decorate their houses. On New Year's Eve, people get together and have a big dinner with families. Dumplings are the most traditional food in the north. After that, people always watch TV programs and play fireworks outside. Spring Festival lasts fifteen days, during which people visit their relatives and friends from door to door. It is our custom that children get lucky money from elders.
The Spring Festival reflects the Chinese people's expectation for a better life, as well as the importance of family affection.
That's all. Thanks for listening.
Then I threw myself into as many basketball opportunities as I could find. Apart from building up my body by running in the morning, I also took lessons to sharpen my skills. When summer rolled around, I participated in every basketball camp available. When it became a struggle to run down the basketball court, my determination fueled my discipline, bringing me to the point I knew I could reach. I became a bit taller, better-built, and much more confident and I knew I was finally in the shape necessary for tryouts.
When I took part in the eighth-grade basketball tryouts, I was smooth, swift and strong. I completed each task excellently. Although I was careful not to be overly confident, I felt a calm sense of certainty that my goal would be achieved. When the lists were posted, I found I had not only made it, but my name was the very first, which gave me a true sense of self-satisfaction. At that time, the old saying “If at first you don't succeed, try, try again” echoed in my mind.
由首句“Then I threw myself into as many basketball opportunities as I could find.” (You’d better go to basketball camps next summer.)
由首句“When I took part in the eighth-grade basketball tryouts. I was smooth, swift and strong.”
I had to spring into action,同时引出下文,接下来描写这些篮球机会。
I built up my body by running in the morning.
I took lessons to sharpen my skills.
When summer rolled around, I participated in every basketball camp available.
When it became a struggle to run down the basketball court, my determination fuelled my discipline, bringing me to the point I knew I could reach.
Sure enough, the old saying “If at first you don't succeed, try, try again” rang true.
