The Million Pound Bank Note
The Million Pound Bank Note is a famous play written by the great American humorist Mark Twain. Set in London in the 1890s, it tells the story of Henry Adams, a poor American businessman who is given a million-pound bank note by two rich brothers as part of a bet. In my opinion, this is a highly entertaining and thought-provoking play.
The plot is very dramatic and full of unexpected twists. Henry is treated badly because he looks poor, but people's attitudes change dramatically when they see the bank note. The characters are also very vivid. Henry is honest and proud, while the shop assistant and owner are arrogant and greedy. Through these characters, the play criticizes the worship of money in a humorous and exaggerated way——a style typical of Mark Twain.
What I like most about this play is that it makes us think deeply about the value of money. The famous saying "Money is a good servant but a bad master" perfectly captures the message of the play. I strongly recommend this play to everyone. It is not only highly amusing but also teaches us an important lesson about life——never judge people by their wealth.
