英语试题
一、阅读六选五:本大题共5小题,共10分。
These days, a popular Chinese saying, “Love You, laoji (爱你老己)”, has spread quickly online, especially among young people. At first, it sounded funny and interesting, but behind it lies an important question: how can we truly love ourselves in a healthy way
Loving yourself doesn’t mean being selfish or not caring about others. (1) Here are some useful ways to do it.
Listen to your body. Try to exercise regularly, sleep enough and eat healthy food. When you feel tired, let yourself have a rest. (2) For example, if your parents or teachers want you to join too many after-school classes, you can talk to them about your real needs. It’s better to choose one or two hobbies you really like instead of trying to do everything at once.
Be kind to your mind. (3) It’s not right to hide your feeling. Instead (相反), it’s a good way to talk to someone you trust or write them down in a diary. Remember, mistakes are part of learning—don’t be too strict (严格) with yourself. If you fail an exam, don’t lose heart. Think about what you can do better next time.
Set healthy limits. It’s okay to say “no” when you are too busy or uncomfortable with something. Protecting your time and energy helps you stay positive and focused.
(4) Whether it’s drawing, singing or horse riding, doing things you enjoy can bring you joy and make you relaxed.
“Love You, laoji” is more than a popular saying. It shows us that before we care for others, we must learn to care for ourselves. (5)

We usually think fish can’t talk. But there are a lot of sounds under the ocean. In fact, scientists believe that all sea animals—at least 250,000 kinds—can “speak”. If we listen carefully when we are underwater, “we can hear animals all around us,” UK scientist Steve Simpson told the BBC.
In the past years, scientists used sound recorders (录音机) to hear fish’s “voices”. There are now thousands of recorders in the ocean. They help scientists match sounds with sea life.
A healthy coral reef (珊瑚礁) is one of the noisiest places in the ocean. Scientists can tell if it’s healthy by listening to it. A healthy coral reef should be full of clicks (咔嚓声) made by shrimps (小虾). When some coral reefs died in 2015 and 2016, they became quiet. After people set up the protected areas, scientists heard the animals come back.
By listening to the ocean, scientists start to understand sea animals’ languages. Strong clownfish make short “chirp” sounds when going after small clownfish. They do this to show they are more powerful (有力量的). A damselfish can create a pop sound to scare other fish by quickly opening and closing its mouth. Mother dolphins can use a special voice to talk to their babies. They are saying “I’m here” to comfort the baby dolphins.
Scientists are building an online library called the Global Library of Underwater Biological Sounds (全球水下生物声音库). It will collect sounds from all over the world to check sea animals’ health. Humans need to understand the sounds made by underwater animals before they die out.
34.What do scientists use “recorders” to do
A. To protect coral reefs. B. To talk with fish.
C. To collect sounds from sea life. D. To look for new kinds of sea life.
35.Why is the coral reef a noisy place

D. Because many fishes speak in dead coral reefs.

37.What is the passage mainly about
A. A record of animals’ sounds.
B. The health of living things in the sea.

How do you feel about nature After spending hours indoors, do you feel better when you visit your local park I believe the answer must be “YES”.
Most people think that nature is good for our bodies and brains. However, humans are spending more time inside and less time outside. For example, the number of visitors to Canada’s national parks is getting smaller every year. And in countries such as the US, only 10% of teenagers spend time outside every day. Many doctors feel that this is a problem in the twenty-first century.
Therefore, some doctors are studying the connection between nature and health: one example is the work of Dr Matilda in Sweden. The doctor gave people a Maths test. During the test, their heart rates (心率) were fast. After the test, one group of people sat in a 3D-virtual-reality (虚拟现实) room for fifteen minutes with pictures and sounds of nature. Their heart rates were slower than people’s in the other group. The virtual touch with nature helped them feel more relaxed. The natural world allows our brains (大脑) to rest and slow down, and can leave us feeling happier and less worried. Another example from Canada also shows nature is good for health. In Toronto, researchers studied 31,000 people living in the city. In general, they found that healthier people lived near parks.
Because of studies like these, some countries and cities want people to enjoy nature in their everyday life. In Dubai, people plan to build a new shopping mall with a large garden, so shoppers can relax outside with trees, plants and water. And South Korea has new forests near its cities and around 13 million people visit these forests every year. Getting close to nature has been thought to be necessary for brain development in children. In Switzerland, “forest schools” are popular. School children study their subjects in the forests and exercise a lot outside.
So after building cities for so long, perhaps it’s now time to start rebuilding nature.
38.What does the underlined word “this” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. People think nature is good for our bodies.
B. People spend more time inside than outside.
C. Only teenagers spend time outside every day.
D. The number of people to parks changes every day.
39.What do the results of the studies tell us in Paragraph 3
A. People should get closer to nature for good health.
B. More and more Canadians will move to live near parks.
C. People’s heart rates get slower in a 3D-virtual-reality room.
D. The Maths test is bad for health as it makes people nervous.
40.What do the countries do to help enjoy nature according to Paragraph 4
A. Planning a green area for shoppers.
B. Building new forests in cities.

D. Building more houses near parks.

C. Nature should be part of people’s life.
D. People have lived in cities for so long.

The children were digging in the gravel pit (沙砾坑). The spade struck something. “I think it was a rabbit-hole,” said Jane, “there might be baby rabbits.”
“Let’s get it out,” said Cyril. The hole grew larger. Suddenly Robert dropped his spade (铲子) and knelt down in the sand.”“ Look!” he cried. “You can see it now — it isn’t a rabbit-hole — it’s a sort of cave. Look!”
They all knelt down and looked. There certainly was something dark — a sort of hairy, furry darkness. Then suddenly this dark something moved. With one spring, the Sand-fairy was out of the sand and sitting on the gravel.
It was exactly like a fat spider, or a mole, or a rat — or perhaps more like all three mixed together. It had legs and arms and hands and feet like a monkey’s, and its face was very like a monkey’s too, except that it had ears like a bat’s ears, and its eyes were on long stalks like a snail’s eyes.
“Don’t be frightened,” said Anthea kindly. “We won’t hurt you.”
“I’m not frightened,” said the Sand-fairy. “I’m only angry. You wake me up out of my thousand years’ sleep.”
“Who are you ” asked Robert.
“I’m a Psammead,” it said angrily. “A sand-fairy. And I can give you anything you wish for — one wish a day, and the wish lasts till sunset.”
“How perfectly lovely!” said Jane.
“Don’t interrupt (打断),” said the Sand-fairy. “I must have my sleep out. I’ve been asleep since long before you were born, and I want to go on sleeping till long after you’re dead.”
“Please,” said Anthea politely, “couldn’t you give us just one wish now ”
The Psammead blew itself out and said, “Very well. What do you want ”
The children whispered together. Then Anthea said, “We wish we were all as beautiful as the day.”
The Sand-fairy blew itself out still more, then suddenly collapsed. “Done!” it said.
“And now go away and don’t bother me.”
They looked at each other. Nothing seemed changed. Then Jane cried, “Oh! Your faces — your clothes — everything”
They were indeed beautiful — their faces perfect, their clothes changed into splendid silks and velvets. Excited and happy, they ran home to show Martha. But when she opened the door, she screamed, “Get away with you!” and slammed (砰地关上) it in their faces.
— Adapted from “Five Children and It”

Huishan clay figurines are a famous traditional Chinese folk art from Wuxi, Jiangsu. They have a history of over 400 years and are popular across the country. Wang Nanxian, a national inheritor (继承人) of this craft, devotes herself to keeping this art alive.
Wang Nanxian first learned to make Huishan clay figurines when she was 16. From the very beginning, she fell in love with the soft black clay and the way it could be turned into cute, smiling characters. She has worked with the craft for more than 60 years, and in 2007, she was named a national inheritor of Huishan clay figurine making.
Making clay figurines needs great skill. First, she kneads (揉) black clay until it is smooth and soft. Then, she uses traditional moulds to shape kids, animals or opera characters. Next, she paints the figures by hand with bright colours—red for luck, yellow for joy, and green for new life. Finally, she dries the works slowly in cool places. A fine work may take weeks.
Wang Nanxian is famous for bringing new life to the old craft. She has created many new works that mix traditional styles with modern ideas. One of her most well-known pieces is a set of clay figurines showing children playing traditional games, which won a national folk art prize. Her works are now kept in many museums.
Today, Wang Nanxian still works in her studio every day, teaching young people how to make Huishan clay figurines. She says, “Clay figurines carry the warmth of our culture. I want more young people to know and love this art.” Through her hard work, these small, colourful figures continue to bring joy to people around the world.

I am the Three-North Shelter Forest (防护林), one of the three biggest tree-planting projects in China. My job is to stop deserts from growing and protect farmland.
