六、阅读理解。
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
(A)
The Amazon Rainforest is the largest rainforest in the world. It covers most of the
Amazon Basin in South America. The rainforest is home to more than 40,000 kinds of plants
and 2.5 million kinds of insects. Many rare animals, like jaguars (美洲豹) and sloths (树懒),
also live there.
Plants in the Amazon Rainforest are very special. Some plants can grow up to 70 meters
tall. Others have big leaves to catch more sunlight. Many plants have medical uses—for
example, the cinchona tree (金鸡纳树) gives us medicine to treat malaria (疟疾).
But the Amazon Rainforest is in danger. Every year, people cut down about 17,000 square
kilometers of trees. They do this to get wood, build farms or mines. This destroys the habitat of
plants and animals. It also causes climate change, because trees take in carbon dioxide (二氧化
碳) and give out oxygen (氧气).
To protect the Amazon Rainforest, many countries are working together. They have made
laws to stop illegal logging (非法伐木). They also encourage people to use eco-friendly
products (环保产品) instead of products made from rainforest wood.
1.What is the main idea of Paragraph 1
A. The size of the Amazon Rainforest.
B. The location of the Amazon Rainforest.
C. The biodiversity (生物多样性) of the Amazon Rainforest.
21世纪教育网(www.21cnjy.com)
/ 让教学更有效 精品试卷 | 英语学科
D. The climate of the Amazon Rainforest.
2.Why do some plants in the Amazon have big leaves
A. To take in more water. B. To catch more sunlight.
C. To avoid being eaten by animals. D. To produce medicine.
3.What problem does cutting down trees in the Amazon cause
A. More oxygen in the air. B. Less carbon dioxide.
C. Habitat loss for wildlife. D. Fewer medical plants.
(B)
Penguins are birds, but they can’t fly. They live in the Southern Hemisphere (南半球),
mostly in Antarctica (南极洲). Penguins have a special body to help them live in cold places:
their feathers are thick and waterproof (防水的), and they have a layer of fat under their skin to
keep warm.
Penguins are great swimmers. They use their wings as flippers (鳍状肢) to swim fast—
some can swim up to 36 kilometers per hour! They dive into the sea to catch food, like fish and
krill (磷虾). Most penguins can hold their breath for 20 minutes or more underwater.
Penguins usually live in groups called colonies. Some colonies have millions of penguins!
They lay eggs on land, and both parents take turns to keep the eggs warm. After the chicks (幼
鸟) hatch, parents feed them with food from their mouths until the chicks are old enough to
swim and find food on their own.
But penguins are facing dangers. Global warming (全球变暖) is making the sea ice melt
(融化). This means less space for penguins to live and lay eggs. Also, overfishing (过度捕鱼)
reduces the amount of food for penguins. To protect penguins, we need to reduce greenhouse
gas emissions (温室气体排放) and stop overfishing.
1.What can’t penguins do according to the passage
A. Swim. B. Fly. C. Dive. D. Lay eggs.
2.How do penguins keep warm in cold places
A. They live in colonies. B. They swim fast in the sea.
C. They have thick waterproof feathers and fat. D. They eat a lot of fish and krill.
3.Who takes care of the penguin eggs
A. Only the mother penguin. B. Only the father penguin.
C. Both parents. D. Other penguins in the colony.

4.What is one reason penguins are in danger

Dear classmates,
Today, many animals like tigers and pandas are in danger of dying out. The main reasons
are habitat loss and overhunting. People cut down trees, so animals have no homes. Some even
kill animals for money.
Animals are an important part of nature. Protecting them is protecting ourselves. So we
must take action now. First, never buy products made from wild animals. Second, save
resources—for example, use fewer disposable products (一次性用品) to reduce pollution.
Finally, tell our family and friends to protect animals too.
Let’s work together to give animals a better future!
Thank you!

七、书面表达。
【答案】例文
Dear classmates,
Today, many animals like tigers and pandas are in danger of dying out. The main reasons are habitat loss and overhunting. People cut down trees, so animals have no homes. Some even kill animals for money.
Animals are an important part of nature. Protecting them is protecting ourselves. So we must take action now. First, never buy products made from wild animals. Second, save resources—for example, use fewer disposable products (一次性用品) to reduce pollution. Finally, tell our family and friends to protect animals too.
Let’s work together to give animals a better future!
Thank you!
