The cat lay under the sofa as usual. The big old wooden box sat quietly by Grandma’s window. It was her favourite place at home, and she never let it out of her sight (视野).
When I was little, I’d climb onto her bed to look inside the box. It had no gold or jewels (珠宝), only old letters, a teacup and a little doll. Grandma would say, “These are my treasures.” Her voice was so soft when she gently touched the old things. I never understood why she cared so much about such ordinary things—why she’d hold them like they were the most precious (珍贵的) things in the world.
As I grew older, I stopped visiting her as often. Last winter, Grandma fell ill. I stayed by her bed. Finally, she told me the stories behind them.
The doll was her mother’s gift. It was the only thing she took with her when she grew up and left home to find a job. The letters were her mother’s notes, full of simple words of comfort. They were sent to her when she felt lonely. And with the teacup, Grandma would use it to make tea every morning, just as her mom did for her in the past.
“I think I might forget everything about my mum when I am old,” she whispered, “but this little doll, these letters…It feels like my mom is still with me. These things kept me going when times were hard.”
I never cried in front of my Grandma, but that day, tears fell. Suddenly, my pink candy jar (罐子) came to my mind. I realized whenever I went to my Grandma, there were always delicious candies in the jar. I know this pink jar will be my little “ordinary” thing.
36.Where did Grandma keep the old things
A. Under the sofa. B. In the box.
C. By her bed. D. Behind the door.
37.How might Grandma feel when she held the old things in her hand

A. They were her only toys in her childhood.
B. They were nice gifts from her good friends.
C. They brought back memories of her mother.
D. They helped her find a job when she grew up.
40.What can we learn from the story
A. Old times, bad days. B. Small things, sweet memories.
C. New life, fresh start. D. Sweet candies, fantastic days.

“It’s ready, doctor,” said Potter. “You’ll have to pay us another five dollars, or I’ll leave it here, doing nothing more.”“ That’s right!” said Indian Joe.
“What do you mean ” said the doctor. “I’ve already paid you two before.”
“Yes,” said Indian Joe. “But five years ago I just went to your father’s kitchen to look for something to eat. Your father sent me to the police and had me jailed (入狱). I said I would get my revenge. And now I’ve got you, and it’s your time to pay me back!”
Indian Joe was shouting at the doctor with his fist (拳头). The doctor suddenly knocked him to the ground. Potter shouted, “Hey, don’t hit my partner!” and soon they were fighting. The doctor took a piece of wood and knocked Potter to the ground. Indian Joe got up and picked up Potter’s knife. Then he pushed the knife into the doctor’s chest. The doctor turned round and fell down, blood pouring out of the wound. Then clouds covered the moon, hiding the only moonlight. The two boys, Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn, were scared of what they saw and ran away quickly in the dark.
When the moon came out again later, Indian Joe was standing between the two men. The doctor died. Indian Joe said to himself, “I’ve had my revenge!”
Then he pulled out the knife and put it into Potter’s right hand. After three or four minutes, Potter began to move, and then he woke up from a coma (昏迷). He looked at the knife in his hand and the doctor’s dead body. He felt extremely scared.
His eyes met Joe’s. “How did this happen ” he said.

For over 60 years, the chip (芯片) industry has followed Moore’s Law (摩尔定律). Its key idea is simple: make transistors (晶体管) smaller to fit more on a chip. By doing this, we can make chips run faster. But this old method meets big troubles. Making super small chips costs lots of money and needs complicated (复杂的) steps. What’s more, they use much electricity and create lots of heat, leading to energy waste and more pollution.
To solve these problems, Huawei introduced the Tao Law in 2026. Different from Moore’s Law, it does not focus on making the chip parts smaller. Instead, it uses new technologies like logic folding and 3D stacking (堆叠) to make the signals (信号) faster inside chips. It is like building a taller school with more floors rather than make the school smaller. Just as students can take stairs or elevators (电梯) to reach classrooms faster without getting tired, signals travel shorter paths inside 3D chips. This makes chips work better and greatly cuts down energy use.
This innovation is a big step for green technology. Lower energy consumption (消耗) means less power for cooling and less pollution from production. Tao Law shows that technological progress does not have to harm the environment. It proves that with creative thinking, we can make products run well and develop in an eco-friendly way, lighting a new way for the whole tech industry.
46.From paragraph 1, what bad result do tiny chips bring
A. They cost only a little money.
B. They cause energy waste and pollution.
C. They cannot run very fast.
D. They need fewer simple steps to make.
47.What does the Tao Law mainly focus on
A. Saving more energy in old ways.
B. Building big factories for new chips.
C. Making the chips much smaller.
D. Improving signal speed with new tech.
48.Why does the writer mention “students and school buildings” in Paragraph 2
A. To talk about students’ life and the chip development.
B. To tell us how we can build a better school for students.
C. To make 3D stacking technology easier to understand.
D. To show how students can move faster in their school.
49.What can we learn from the passage
A. Creative ideas bring fresh blood to modern industry.
B. Cutting down energy use can help chips work better.
C. Tao Law is highly praised by the whole tech industry.
D. Moore’s Law slows down the development of industry.
50.Which is the best title for the passage
A. Moore’s Law: The End of Its Age B. Tao Law: A New Green Innovation
C. Green Tech: Ways to Save Energy D. Huawei: How New Chips Improved

Yin Yuzhen, known as the “Desert Control Queen”, is a great environmental hero in China. Her life story perfectly shows the spirit of “going green” and never giving up.
Born in 1966, Yin got married and moved to the Mu Us Sandy Land in Inner Mongolia in 1985. Back then, she lived in a half-underground room, and strong winds often covered the door with sand. She made a brave decision: “I would rather die planting trees than let sand bully (欺负) me.”
In 1986, Yin and her husband began to plant trees. They had no machines, so they carried seedlings (幼苗) on their backs and dug holes with shovels (铲子). The first 600 seedlings only had 10 alive, but she never stopped. Year by year, she developed a smart way to fix sand with bushes first, then plant trees.
In 1999, a friend donated $5,000 to support Yin and her husband. With that money, they grew over 50,000 trees, turning 70,000 mu of desert into green land. Her hard work won her many honours, including the “Global Earth Guardian Award”.
Yin Yuzhen’s story tells us that going green is not just a slogan (口号). With hard work and persistence (恒心), everyone can make the earth greener and better.
