In front of the taijiquan museum of Chenjiagou village, hundreds of foreign (外国的) learners moved in perfect movements. They were a mix of locals and visitors who had travelled thousands of miles to the birthplace of the martial art (武术) for the first international Taijiquan Day.
People have long realized that taijiquan is more of a cultural treasure (宝藏) than simply an exercise. Every day, millions of Chinese people practise slow and soft taiji movements in parks. According to a report, the number of learners in China is around 78.6 million.
More and more foreign learners share their training videos online and record their learning experiences. Chen Bing, a Chen-style master (大师) is their teacher. He explains taijiquan with three key points: peace of mind, easy relaxation and water. It can help people clear thoughts and keep energetic.
Created by Chen Wangting, using traditional Chinese medicine and Taoist breathing techniques, the martial art can date back to the 17th century. Today, the village is home to over 800 practising masters and has cultural exchange programs from more than 30 countries.
Mario Farre, a 64-year-old from France, moved to Henan to practise taijiquan. “I have become calmer, more patient and better at understanding others,” he said. As Chen Bing put it, Westerners like Farre practise to stay healthy, and often find something deeper.

A strong handshake used to show that a person was polite and friendly. But this old habit may soon go away for many British teenagers. A new study of 2,000 parents and their kids shows a big change. About 73% of young people now feel very nervous in social groups.
The study found that 92% of teenagers like texting or using icons (符号) more than talking in person. Among all social tasks, “small talk” is the hardest for them. About 56% of teenagers try their best to avoid it. Also, 24% of them say they cannot shake hands in a confident way. Many even feel shy when they order food in a cafe.
Most parents feel worried about this. They believe the internet is the main reason for the problem. Since teenagers spend too much time online, they are not used to meeting people in real life. In fact, 86% of parents say their kids are much more confident online than in person.
Dr. Robert Harrison is an expert who studies schools. He says that the future belongs to those who can talk and work with others well. Although AI is popular, human social skills are still very important. About 81% of teenagers also worry that being shy will be bad for their future. So Dr. Robert thinks that schools should do more to help.

The Taklamakan Desert is one of the toughest (艰苦的) places on Earth. People call it the “Sea of Death”. Strong sandstorms often sweep across the land. Summer temperatures can go above 45℃, and it hardly rains all year round. Even so, local farmers grow special roses here and turn empty sand hills into beautiful flower fields.
These desert roses are strong enough to live in dry weather. Their long roots reach deep into the ground to get water. Thick flower parts stop too much water from losing. In cold winters, the plants stay quiet and save energy, then grow lively again when spring comes. With proper rose kinds and smart watering ways, people finally make flowers grow well in the desert.
________ These flowers can form natural walls against wind, because their roots hold sand firmly and stop the desert from spreading. In recent years, sandstorms have become less common, and the dry land gets better little by little.
What’s more, roses bring great economic (经济的) advantages. They have a nice sweet smell. Local people make rose oil, tea and dried flowers from parts. These products sell well and bring much money. Families can improve their living conditions and afford children’s schooling. Many local women also get proper jobs picking flowers.
