Dear Sir/Madam,
I’m Li Hua, a senior high student seeking your advice on a family conflict over keeping a cat.
I’ve longed for a cat since childhood — it comforts my loneliness and eases my study pressure. But my parents oppose it, worrying about health risks, extra chores and pet-care costs, and refuse to support my hobby.
Could you tell me how to communicate my thoughts while addressing their concerns I’d be grateful for your help and look forward to your reply.

Growing up, I realized I wasn’t as talkative as others within large groups of people. Parties were a mixed experience for me — I really wanted to be part of them, but usually spent the night waiting for it to end. I saw others getting everyone’s attention. I felt less confident.
They say confidence comes with time. But eight years into my HR (human resources) career (职业), I still found myself staying out of the limelight (公众注意的中心).
And then a colleague asked me if I was an introvert (内向的人). “No... ” I replied.
I thought introverts were strange, and they didn’t even like people. That was certainly not me. I’d always liked people; I found them fascinating. When I was with my closest friends, I was quite talkative.
Then he explained to me that introverts don’t know what to do when they’re around other people and need alone time to recharge.
Extroverts are the opposite.
And that was it. Hearing the two simple statements, I felt like over three decades of shame had been lifted off my shoulders.
I learned to accept my introverted nature and focused on what I enjoyed. As I began to connect with people one-on-one, I found it very meaningful. This encouraged me to explore how I could use my introversion to help others.
Finally, I started an online business called Career Off Script, where I focus on helping young professionals who are feeling lost and unhappy. I work with them one-on-one to discover their unique superpowers, strengths. So they, too, can appreciate their uniqueness and find their own success.

A nutrient-rich (营养丰富) diet with few added sugars may slow rates of biological aging in women, a new research suggests. Scientists found that middle-aged women who ate more foods packed with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants (抗氧化物) had “younger-looking” cells than those who had less healthy diets. They judged whether a cell was young by looking at methyl (甲基) groups, on the surface of DNA.
The pattern of these methyl groups changes as we age, which is believed to increase cellular aging. “Sugars are linked to worsened health and early disease possibly more than any other food factor.” co-author Elissa Epel, a professor at the University of California, said in a statement.
Epel and her colleagues analyzed food records of 342 women over three days. The team then scored each woman’s diet based on how closely it followed various established diets: While nutrient-rich diets were tied to slowed aging, added sugars seemed to control the effect. In the study, women who consumed higher amounts of added sugars showed signs of faster cellular aging compared to others, even if they ate other healthy diets. “Added sugars” refer to sugars that are added to food during production such as those in sugared drinks and baked goods, as opposed to the naturally occurring sugars found in milk, fruits and vegetables. The new study is one of the first to demonstrate a link between added sugar consumption and cellular aging, the authors said.
The team calculated the participants’ ages by looking at the DNA methylation of cells with samples. These data showed the links between diet and cellular aging, but they were only a tip of the iceberg. In fact, more research is needed to assess how following these diets might affect aging in the long run.
8. What can we learn from the study
A. A balanced diet is linked to people’s health.
B. A low-sugar healthy diet may delay women’s aging.
C. The sugary food has no effect on the women’s body.
D. The added sugars slow down people’s biological aging.
9. Which of the following food may make cells age faster according to paragraph 3
A. Pure milk. B. Chinese cabbage. C. Birthday cakes. D. Fresh watermelons.
10. How did Epel and her colleagues conduct their study
A. By giving an example. B. By introducing a concept.
C. By making a comparison. D. By raising some questions.
11. What can be inferred from the last paragraph
A. The study lacks further support.
B. There are data errors in the study.
C. People’s age can be changed by diet.
D. Sugary diet affects health in the long run.
D
In 2016, China made April 24 Space Day to celebrate its space achievements. The country’s commercial space journey progressed quickly in November 2024 when the Long March 12 rocket was successfully sent into space from the Hainan Commercial Space Launch Site in Wenchang. This important event showed that China had finished building its whole commercial space industry chain, including making satellites, launch services, and data applications.
Commercial space means activities in space technology that are driven by the market, aiming to make profits through launches and services. Globally, the U.S. is the leader in this field. In 2023, the world’s space economy made $400 billion, and commercial satellites accounted for 71% ($285 billion). Private companies like SpaceX helped the U.S. stay ahead with creative methods in making reusable rockets and satellite internet (Starlink). The U.S. also leads in space investment, securing 51% of the world’s money put into space projects.
China entered commercial space later but has gained momentum. Since announcing Long March rockets for international launches in 1985, its market scale has sharply risen from 0.6 trillion yuan ($82 billion) in 2018 to 1.9 trillion yuan in 2023, growing 23% per year. Government support has helped this growth: commercial space was called a “new growth engine” in China’s 2024 government report, and Hainan province has set up platforms for rocket recovery technology.
The Hainan launch site is a game-changer. Its No. 2 launch pad (发射台), designed for medium-sized liquid-fuel rockets, enables high-frequency, cost-effective launches with rapid turnaround times. The Long March 12 rocket, China’s first 3.8-meter-diameter vehicle, uses a design that breaks it into parts to make it better at carrying things and cheaper. A key innovation (创新) is its way of putting the rocket together and moving it while it’s lying down. This gets rid of the need for tall buildings to assemble (组装) the rockets, cuts down on work done high up, and improves efficiency.
Looking ahead, China plans to launch many satellites in low -Earth orbits to give broadband internet to the whole world. With continuous breakthroughs in reusable rocket technology and simpler launch processes, the country is on track to become a major player of the global space economy by 2025, finding a good balance between innovation and commercial possibility.
12. What may contribute to the U.S.’s leading place in the commercial space field
A. A complete commercial space industry chain. B. High government funding for space projects.
C. Market-driven profitable activities. D. The establishment of Space Day.
13. What does the underlined phrase “gained momentum” in paragraph 3 mean
A. Advanced rapidly B. Sped suddenly C. Progressed gradually D. Changed completely
14. Why is the Hainan launch site called a game-changer
A. Intended to launch China’s biggest rockets. B. Having creative and efficient technical advantages.
C. Able to conduct many launches quickly and costly. D. Using a traditional system for rocket assembly.
15. What does the author imply in the last paragraph
A. China has the most advanced reusable rocket technology.
B. China has launched many satellites for global broadband.
C. China aims to make both breakthroughs and profits
D. China aims to lead the global economy by 2025

People hate packaging. And, yes, there’s a lot of bad and wasteful packaging out there.
___16___ When it comes to protecting and dispensing (分发) food, the right package can greatly reduce waste. Here are a few examples.
Packaging keeps the meat fresh.
We throw away a fifth of the beef we buy — the equivalent (等量) of 8 million cows each year — often because it goes bad before we cook it. The solution ___17___ Case-ready packaging can lengthen that shelf life to up to 21 days. If the meat you bought isn’t going to be eaten within a few days, case-ready packaging is the better choice for the environment.
___18___
This dairy waste can be avoided with packaging technology such as Tetra Pak (利乐包装纸盒), which is commonly used in Europe and Asia to keep milk from spoiling, even without refrigeration. Recycled or not, Tetra Pak is a good environmental bet because it can lengthen the shelf life of milk up to nine months. ___19___ Once again, the environmental benefit of the food-protection technology outweighs the harmful impact of the packaging itself.
Packaging Fixes Sticky Situations.
___20___ One example of waste-reducing packaging is the concept project shown from designer Drew Stanley. He designed a peanut butter jar made of a soft material which can be turned inside out and scraped (刮掉) clean, avoiding sticky food sticking to your fingers.
A. Packaging protects milk.
B. Using Tetra Pak packaging.
C. But packaging isn’t always the enemy.
D. We should pay attention to the rubbish produced by packaging.
E. Scientists have developed packaging that can keep refrigerated meat fresh for weeks.
F. It can reduce the need for refrigeration and the amount of milk that goes wasted.
G. Food left behind in jars and bottles makes up a surprising amount of waste.
