A kind of grass from China has been making a difference. It can be cut into pieces and used as a substrate (培养基) for growing mushrooms (蘑菇) ; it is a kind of feed for farm animals; it also blocks strong desert winds. This plant is called Juncao or “mush-room grass”.
The Juncao technology has achieved success. The technology has been introduced into over 100 countries. Local farmers’ incomes (收入) have increased a lot, after they grew mushrooms with Juncao. The technology won the Prize of the State of Geneva at the 20th International Exhibition of Inventions.
Scientist Li Zhanxi was the inventor of the Juncao technology. In an interview, Li shared his experience of inventing the Juncao technology. “In the 1970s, China introduced a mushroom growing technology that used wood as substrates to help farmers in mountainous areas. But the method led to deforestation (毁林) . More forests were cut down to provide wood. To solve the problem, we needed to find other ways. We had many difficulties during the research process. The most difficult part was that we didn’t have past experience to learn from. We tested many kinds of grass to see which one could be used to grow mush-rooms. Traffic laws are the rules of the road that keep drivers, people on bikes and people on foot safe. Among all traffic control devices, the traffic light is the most important. But have you ever wondered why red means “stop” and green means “go”
The history of traffic lights started with railway systems in the 19th century. Red was chosen as “stop” because it could be seen from a much longer distance than other colours, even in fog or rain. At first, green meant “be careful” and white meant “go”. But there was a serious problem. Sometimes the red cover of the light would fall off or break, showing the white light behind it. A train driver might see the white light and think it was safe to go, causing terrible accidents.
To solve this problem, people changed the colours. Green was used to mean “go” because it was very different from red and easy to see. Later, yellow was added to mean “be careful” or “slow down” because it was bright and caught people’s attention easily. Today, these colours are used in the same way all over the world. They give clear instructions and stop the roads from being in a mess.
37.Where did traffic lights first start
A.Railway systems. B.Bus systems. C.Plane systems. D.Bike systems.
38.Why was red chosen to mean “stop” in the early traffic lights
A.Because it was a bright color.
B.Because it could be seen from far away.
C.Because it was the first colour used.
D.Because it looked like a warning sign.

A.The bright colour of yellow. B.The meaning of traffic lights.
C.The development of the colours. D.The importance of being careful.

Have you watched the “space food live stream” (太空吃播) Chinese astronauts on Tiangong Space Station recently shared their special “barbecue” moment, which was a big surprise. The star tool behind this is a new hot-air oven.
In the video, astronauts first took out chicken wings and fixed them on special racks. After 28 minutes’ heating, the wings turned golden. Then they baked (烘烤) black pepper steak together, and the delicious smell made them excited.
Baking in space is a big challenge. The smoke and oil fumes could have an effect on the station’s air quality. This space oven is not like the ones on Earth. It uses technologies like oil collection and multi-layer filtration (多层过滤), meeting the strict air quality standards of the space station. It can work for more than 500 times for long-term tasks.
The oven is part of China’s hard work to make astronauts’ life better. Now there are over 190 kinds of food on the station. The menu changes every 10 days. The “space garden” grows fresh vegetables, adding more nutrition (营养) to their meals.
Experts say self-baked food brings not only taste enjoyment but also spiritual comfort (心灵的慰藉) to astronauts living in a narrow space for months. This oven shows China’s progress in space technology and its care for astronauts’ daily life. It’s really a warm gift from Earth to the universe.

1.C 2.A 3.D 4.A 5.C 6.B 7.D 8.A 9.C 10.D
根据后文“they can help people save much time...”
整篇文章的主题就是关于“computers”,且下文提到“More and more families have their own computers”,故此处填 computers“电脑”。
空格后提到“make them fall behind in study”,最关心学生学业进度并对此发表看法的通常是 老师。
don’t agree with表示“不同意”。write down“写下”、think about“思考”、look for“寻找”语义不通。
