Language classes are important in almost all countries. Across Poland, the United States, Mexico, and Germany, students are experiencing different ways of learning.
Bartosz Turczynski
14, Poland In my language classes, we read and write a lot. The stories we read are from different time periods — from old Greek myths (神话) to modern works (著作). One book I especially like is The Doll by Boleslaw Prus. It’s a long story and we discuss how rich and poor people achieve their dreams. In all, our classes are fun and helpful.
Niu Hanling
15, US I go to a private high school in Southern California, ing from Beijing, I was surprised by the English classes here. We don’t remember what we read in class but discuss the stories and share our ideas. I learn to use what I have read and I improve my English quickly. I really love learning English in this way.
Yin Peixin
15, Mexico At my school, Spanish classes are in two levels: Level A for beginners, and Level B for good learners who speak Spanish well. I am in Level A because I am new in Mexico. We read stories, novels and poems at home, then discuss them in class. Teachers use PPT and online news to help us connect what we read to history and culture.
Johanna Senst
16, Germany Our textbooks include works by German writers like Goethe and Schiller. Once, we read a Goethe poem and each chose a favorite line — everyone picked a different one, showing the same work can mean different things to different people. Instead of giving “right answers”, our teacher let us discuss the characters’ choices. This helped me see that reading is about thinking and sharing ideas.

A.Bartosz Turczynski. B.Niu Hanling. C.Yin Peixin. D.Johanna Senst.
20. What does Niu Hanling think about his language classes in the US

A.To explain how to choose a good language class.
B.To encourage students to study in different countries.
C.To introduce some language classes around the world.
D.To find out the best language classes in the world.

Have you ever heard about “trunk-filling competition (竞赛)” It happens almost every year at the end of the Spring Festival all across China. Here’s a story from Xiaohao.
It was Feb. 28th, 2026, the last day I stayed at home before I drove back to Beijing to work. My parents were busy planning how to put as many things as possible in my car trunk. From homemade dishes like meatballs to fresh vegetables grown at home and sweet fruits from local farms, they filled every corner of the trunk.
Resting at the highway service areas, I saw many full car trunks with colorful boxes, bags, and all kinds of packages. When the drivers opened their trunks, it was like a competition to see whose car was filled the most.
Later, on the Internet, I found that many people were also joining the “trunk-filling competition” and sharing photos of their trunks. As we shared our trunks, I realized that we were not sharing the things but the signs of family love and care.
Actually, the care between family members is mutual because I also found many full trunks with all kinds of gifts from cities for the parents! As children working far away, we are trying to show our love to the family in this way, too. Full trunks home, full trunks back. We love each other.
This is the true spirit of the Spring Festival: a celebration of love and a strong connection that hold us together. The warmth of home would never stop with the holiday-it travels with us, giving us strength and hope for the journey ahead.
23. When is the “trunk-filling competition”
A.During a holiday. B.At the end of a traveling.
C.Before going back home. D.At the end of Spring Festival.
24. What was NOT filled by Xiaohao’s parents in his car trunk
A.Different gifts from big cities. B.Home-grown fresh vegetables.
C.Sweet fruits from local farms. D.Delicious homemade meatballs.
25. What does underlined word “mutual” in Paragraph 5 mean
A.单向的 B.相互的 C.唯一的 D.无尽的
26. Why do Chinese people join the “trunk-filling competition”
A.They want to sell farm products in big cities.
B.They want to find out whose car trunk is the fullest.
C.They want to share the family love and connection.
D.They just want to take part in a fun online game.

A worm is a small animal with a long thin body, no bones, and no legs. But what is an earworm Think about it: You are in a quiet room and trying to focus on a report. But no matter how hard you try, a short piece of a song keeps repeating in your mind again and again. Nobody hears it but you! This is what researchers call an “earworm”.
Studies show that earworms happen more often when you have heard a song many times or very recently. In one study, researchers asked a group of people to listen to a new song. Half of them listened to it only twice, while the other half listened six times. Later, the researchers found that about 30% of them had an earworm. The people who heard the song six times had far more earworms than those who heard it twice.
Some songs are more likely to become earworms than others. Songs with a fast beat, a simple melody (旋律), or a few surprising notes seem to stick more easily. Earworms also come more often when you are tired, bored, or doing something that does not need much attention.
When an earworm takes hold of your mind, it not only makes you upset. It takes up your “working memory” part (the part of your brain that helps you remember things). Researchers have found that with the earworm in your mind, you can not remember other information or focus on your work.
So, how can you stop an earworm Chewing gum (口香糖) might help! When you chew gum, your throat will be busy working and you cannot sing the song silently. In this way, the earworm can not go on. So next time an earworm stays in your head, just try some gum!
27. According to the passage, an “earworm” refers to ________.
A.a song that keeps repeating in your mind
B.a real worm that lives inside your ear
C.a piece of music that you sing loudly D.a kind of musical instrument you play

A.A slow, sad piece of music you heard just once a long time ago.
B.A slow song with some surprising notes you have never heard before.
C.A fast-beat song with a simple melody you heard many times yesterday.
D.A quiet piece of music without any words you heard two days ago.
29. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4
A.The reasons for earworms. B.The problems of earworms.
C.The benefits of earworms. D.The examples of earworms.
30. Which is the best title for this passage
A.How to Choose Your Favorite Song B.Why Earworms Keep in Your Mind
C.Why Chewing Gum is Good for You D.How to Catch the Worms in Your Ears
