Once upon a time, in a faraway forest, there lived a monkey and an elephant. They were good friends and did almost everything together.
But one day, the two had a big disagreement. The monkey thought that being fast was the key to success. The elephant disagreed. He believed that being powerful mattered much more. Then they turned to the wise farmer in the village for help.
After listening patiently, the farmer said, “Do you see the shiny fruit on the top of a tall tree across the river Bring me that fruit. And then I’ll answer your question.”
The elephant and the monkey left. When the two reached the river, the monkey stopped—it was too deep and too wide for him to cross. The elephant, however, rushed forward and easily got to the tree. But when he tried to reach the fruit, he found it was too high. He pushed, pulled and even shook the big tree with all his strength, but the fruit wouldn’t move a little. The elephant had no choice but to return to the riverbank.
Once again, the elephant told the monkey to jump on his back. Together, they crossed the river safely. Once they reached the tree, the monkey climbed it and picked the fruit. Then they made their way back.
The farmer asked, “Of the two of you, which one brought the fruit to me ” The monkey proudly said, “I did! I climbed the tree and picked it.” The elephant disagreed, “No, I did! Without me, he couldn’t even cross the river!”
The farmer smiled and said. “You’re both wrong,” he said. “The fruit came not from one, but from you both. It came only when one offered what the other didn’t have, and two walked side by side. That’s the real key to success.”

Mary went to see Colin the next morning. He looked sad and tired and his face was white. Mary knew that this was the moment to tell him everything.
“Can I trust you ” Mary asked.
“Yes—yes!” he said.
“Dickon is coming to see you tomorrow. And also…I…I found the door into the secret garden.”
Colin looked at Mary with eyes wide open. It was incredible! He had never felt such a surprise in his life.
Mary went on, “Colin, we’re going to take you there!”
The next day, Dickon was waiting for him outside. Dickon pushed the wheelchair slowly and carefully. Mary walked next to it. They went across the grass to the long road near the wall.
“This is where I walked up and down looking for the door,” said Mary. They walked a bit further then Mary said again, “Look at the big tree in the flower bed! I found the key under it!” Then Dickon stopped pushing the chair.
“And look!” Mary said. “Here is the door. Dickon, push him in! push him in quickly!”
When they were inside the garden, Colin looked round and round. He saw the walls and the earth and the trees with their new green leaves. In the grass under the trees there were flowers, gold and purple and white. The trees were covered in pink and white flowers. The sun was warm on his face. Mary and Dickon looked at him. He looked different. His face was pink, not white.
“Mary! Dickon! I’m going to get well!” Colin loudly cried. “And I’m going to live forever and ever!” Dickon pushed his wheelchair slowly round and round the garden. He often stopped to show Colin something—green leaves, an insect, an empty eggshell…

In 2025, a team of scientists from China developed a new environmental technology called “Solar-Powered Algae Mats (太阳能藻类垫)” (SPA Mats). It has become a great achievement in cleaning polluted water. Unlike traditional water cleaning methods that cost much, SPA Mats use solar power to grow special algae (藻类). The algae can eat harmful things in rivers, lakes and even oceans. This technology has been tested in three Chinese cities since early 2026 and shown amazing results.
Each SPA Mat is thick and soft, so it can be spread on water surfaces easily. It is covered with tiny solar panels (太阳能电池板) and these panels provide energy for the algae to grow fast. The team first tested 50 SPA Mats in a small polluted river in Hangzhou. After two months, the water quality improved greatly. Encouraged by this, they added 150 more mats in the same area. In total, these mats reduced harmful chemicals in the river by 65% and made the water clear enough for small fish to return. Local people also noticed that the bad smell from the river was gone, and more birds began to stay nearby.
However, the technology still has space for improvement. The SPA Mats work best in areas with plenty of sunlight, but they don’t work as well on cloudy days or in dark water. Also, making the mats requires special materials and they are very expensive. Scientists are now working to improve the technology, hoping to make the mats cheaper and suitable for different weather conditions.
The team behind SPA Mats hopes to bring this technology to more countries by 2027, for it shows environmental protection. Such green tech can surely grow fast, and let more people see the great power of science and nature working together.
62.What can we learn about the test of the SPA Mats in Hangzhou in Paragraph 2
A. The mats worked well in real life.
B. The cost of the test is high.
C. The river was polluted after the test.
D. The test failed in bad weather.
63.What is a weakness (缺点) of the SPA Mats technology
A. It cannot clean ocean water.
B. Its work depends much on sunlight.
C. It makes the water smell bad.
D. The algae sometimes grow too slowly.
64.What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the future of SPA Mats
A. Doubtful. B. Grateful. C. Hopeful. D. Worried.
65.What is the writer’s main purpose (目的) in writing this passage
A. To ask people to protect rivers from pollution.
B. To introduce a new water cleaning technology.
C. To show the weak points of water cleaning ways.
D. To explain the importance of scientific development.

Small Actions Bring a Green World
It’s everyone’s duty to protect the environment. We can do simple things to go green. We can save energy by turning off lights when leaving a room. Besides, we should say no to single-use plastic bags and bottles.
Last winter holiday, I took part in a street cleaning activity. I picked up rubbish and separated waste into different groups with my classmates. Though I felt a little tired, seeing the clean streets filled me with much joy.
That experience made me realize that every effort counts. I also learned that environmental protection isn’t just a duty. It’s a way to show love for our home. Everyone should take action to bring a green world.
