In fact, China was the first country to use paper money. The earliest paper money was the jiaozi. People used it during the Song Dynasty (960-1279).
For about 1,000 years, paper money has played a big part in our lives. But things have changed in recent years. In China, paper money is getting less popular. More people are paying for things with WeChat Wallet and Alipay mobile apps.
Does this mean paper money will go away one day Maybe. But not for now, according to The New York Times.
There are a few reasons for this. First of all, not every country is going cashless (无现金的). People in some countries still prefer to use paper money. There is also the danger of hacking (黑客攻击). One afternoon, Heidi and Clara were sitting in the garden of the grand house in Frankfurt. Clara, who had to sit in a wheelchair because of her disability, looked at Heidi with a sad expression.
“I wish I could run and play like you, Heidi,” Clara said. “I’ve never been able to walk, and the doctors said I never would.”
Heidi felt sorry for her friend, “But there must be something we can do! The mountains made me strong—maybe they could help you too.”
Clara shook her head, “Papa said the mountains are too far away, and the journey would be too difficult for me.”
Just then, Clara’s strict teacher, Ms. Rottenmeier, appeared. She frowned(皱眉) at Heidi, “What are you two talking about Clara, you should be resting, not wasting your energy on silly dreams.” Heidi stood up, her face red with anger, “It’s not a silly dream. Clara could get better if she just tried!”
Ms. Rottenmeier’s eyes narrowed, “How dare you speak to me like that! You’re here to be a partner to Clara, not to fill her head with rubbish.”
Clara looked down, her hands shaking, “Please, don’t fight. I don’t want to cause trouble.” Heidi went down on her knees beside Clara’s wheelchair. “You’re not causing trouble. I just want to help you.”
Ms. Rottenmeier crossed her arms, “Enough of this! Heidi, go to your room and think about your behaviour. Clara, it’s time for your medicine.”
Heidi didn’t want to do so, but Clara gave her a small nod. Unwillingly(不情愿地), Heidi walked back into the house, her heart heavy. Have you ever felt the earth move How can you keep safe during an earthquake
All earthquakes send out waves (波). An earthquake can be so small that it can’t be felt while a stronger earthquake sends out bigger waves and can be felt for hundreds of miles. Strong earthquakes can harm people and animals. They can make everything in a mess. Once an earthquake starts, it may be too late to escape it. But there are steps you can take to stay safe.
When you stay inside, remember to drop, cover, and hold. First, drop to the floor. Second, cover yourself with your arms under strong furniture (家具). Third, hold on to something strong. Stay away from windows or things that could fall. Stay calm and help others do the same. When you stay outside, you should stay away from buildings, electric lines, and other things that can fall and find an open place to stay.
After an earthquake, have an adult turn off the gas and water. Pipes can crack (破裂) and let out harmful gases. Broken pipes can also make water unsafe to drink.
Be prepared for what happens after a big earthquake or any natural disaster. Put together a kit (成套设备) of things you may need. This kit needs to include water, food, and a first-aid kit. Now you understand how you can stay safe during an earthquake! Don’t forget to tell others.
