1. Lead-in.
The teacher provides chat record images with emojis, and requires students to answer the question by viewing the images.

2. Watch a video.
The teacher provides a video to help students understand the relevant information about emojis.
3. Pre-reading.
①Ask the students to think about how they felt on their first day of senior high school, and circle the pictures that describe how they felt. (Activity 1)
②Ask the students to look at the picture and the title of the article, and predict what the article will be about and guess where it is from.
Suggested answer:
The article describes Han Jing's first day of high school life. From the picture, it can be seen that the article is from a social network website.
4. While-reading.
①Ask the students to read the text quickly and draw pictures to show Han Jing's feelings on her first school day. (Activity 2)
②Ask the students to quickly read the text and identify which order Han Jing follows to talk about her first day.
Suggested answer:
Time order:7:00 a.m. → 12:30 p.m. → 5:32 p.m. → 10:29 p.m.
③Ask the students to scan for details. Read the text again and discuss the questions. (Activity 3)
5. Post-reading.
①Ask the students to fill in the table with the words and phrases from the text, and tell a partner about Han Jing's day. Then talk about their own first day of senior high school. (Activity 4)
②Ask the students to discuss the following questions in groups and then share their opinions.
If your deskmate keeps chatting and disturbs your class study, how will you deal with it politely
Suggested answer:
I will lean close and whisper politely that we should focus on lessons during class. I can also make an agreement with him to share interesting stories and chat freely after class or during break time. If he still disturbs me often, I will kindly talk about this problem after school to avoid affecting both our study efficiency.
What did Han Jing learn from her first day at senior high school
Suggested answer:
First, greet new classmates and teachers actively to build friendly connections. Second, take part in various class activities to blend into the new group quickly. Besides, they can share worries with old friends or ask teachers for useful advice when feeling upset. Gradually they will adapt to high school life and build confidence.
6. Word Study.
Ask students to complete the passage with the correct forms of the words and phrases provided in the textbook.
