life. It saves people a lot of time on boring and repetitive work, allowing them to focus on more important things.
At the same time, it is always learning and improving, which makes its functions richer and more correct. However,
we also need to use it properly. It is a useful tool, but it cannot replace our own thinking, creativity and hard work.
In the future, AI technology will develop faster and more widely. OpenClaw and similar tools will become

It was a Tuesday afternoon in April. We were having our English class in the classroom. Our teacher Ms.
Wang was telling us something about the coming National Disaster Prevention and Reduction Day. Suddenly, the
fire alarm rang loudly throughout the school.
“Earthquake drill! Take cover quickly!” Ms. Wang shouted loudly. We all knew what to do because we had
learned the earthquake safety rules before. We quickly got under our desks, put our arms over our heads, and closed
our eyes. The desks protected us from falling things. We stayed quiet and didn’t move. No one shouted or ran
around.
After about 60 seconds, the alarm stopped. Ms. Wang shouted, “The first shock is over. Line up quickly and
evacuate (撤离) to the playground!” We stood up quickly, lined up along the wall, and walked out of the classroom
one by one. We didn’t push each other or run. We put one hand on our heads to protect them, and held the handrail
with the other hand when we went down the stairs.
When we got to the playground, we all squatted down and put our hands over our heads. Our head teacher
counted the number of students quickly. All 45 students in our class were there in less than 3 minutes. The whole
school finished the evacuation in 4 minutes and 30 seconds.
After the drill, the fireman gave us a lesson about earthquake safety. He told us that we should never take the
lift during an earthquake, and we should stay away from windows and tall buildings. He also showed us how to do
first aid when someone gets hurt.
“I was a little nervous when the alarm rang, but I remembered all the safety rules,” said my classmate Li Hua.
“This drill is very useful. Now I know what to do if a real earthquake happens.”
Ms. Wang said, “Natural disasters can happen at any time. We can’t stop them, but we can learn to protect
ourselves. The drill is not a game. It helps us practice the safety rules again and again, so that we can keep safe
when a real disaster comes.”
30. What were the students doing when the alarm rang

A. Take the lift to go downstairs quickly during an earthquake.

As middle school students, we are in an important time of our growth. Good habits can help us become a
better person, and they can also make our world better. There are three important kinds of habits that we should
develop: learning habits, saving habits and green living habits.
First, good learning habits are the key to our success. As the saying goes, “Practice makes perfect.” If we have
good learning habits, we can learn better and get more knowledge. We should listen to teachers carefully in class,
take notes in time, review lessons every day, and never give up when we meet difficulties. These habits can help us
become a better learner, just as the topic of Unit 7 tells us: Be a Better Learner!
Second, good saving habits can help us have a right idea about money. In today’s world, many people spend
money without thinking. But if we have good saving habits, we can use money in the right way. We should save
pocket money, not waste money on useless things, and use money to do meaningful things. This is what Unit 8
Save Every Coin! teaches us.
第 9页/共 15页
Third, green living habits are very important for our earth. The earth is our only home, and we must protect it.
We should save water and electricity, plant more trees, not throw rubbish everywhere, and use cloth bags instead of
plastic bags. These small actions can make a big difference to our environment, which is the main idea of Unit 9
Power of Nature.
All in all, these three kinds of habits are connected with each other. If we develop these good habits, we will
not only become a better person, but also make our earth a better place to live in.
35. What is the main idea of this passage
A. Good habits help us become better and protect the earth.
B. Learning habits are the most important.
C. How to save pocket money.
D. Natural disasters around the world.
36. How many kinds of habits does the writer talk about
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.
37. How does the writer support the importance of learning habits in Paragraph 2
A. By listing examples. B. By telling a story.
C. By using a saying. D. By comparing facts.
38. Which of the following is NOT a green living habit
A. Saving water and electricity. B. Using plastic bags.
C. Planting more trees. D. Recycling waste paper.
39. What can we learn from the passage
A. Good habits only help with our study.
B. We don’t need to save money.
C. It’s never too late to develop good habits.
D. Good habits have nothing to do with the environment.

World Book Day is one day a year set aside to celebrate books, authors and reading! April 23 is known as
World Book Day. The idea of setting a day to encourage reading was proposed (提出) by UNESCO in 1995. In fact,
this idea came out earlier in Spain. In 1923, Spanish writer Vicente Clavel Andres suggested the idea to honor
Miguel de Cervantes, a famous writer. Three years later, the first celebration was held on October 7, which is
Cervantes’ birthday. In 1930, the date was changed to April 23, the day Cervantes died.
Since 2001, UNESCO has chosen one city every year as the “World Book Capital”. The task of the city is to
promote (推广) a culture of reading and share its values among all age groups, both within and beyond the country.
Although no Chinese cities have been chosen yet, a recent survey shows that more Chinese people are reading.
In 2023, each adult read an average of 8.15 books, higher than the numbers in 2022. Teenagers read even more —
第 11页/共 15页
11.39 books on average, including printed books and e-books. Many adults also enjoy listening to audiobooks (有
声读物): 35.5 percent of adults said they often listen to them. Additionally, reading events across China attract
large crowds.
Reading lets people know new worlds and meet interesting characters. An old Chinese saying goes: “Read ten
