Emma grew up in a small village with a beautiful forest around it. Her grandfather taught her to love and respect nature. On their long walks together, he showed her how to watch animals quietly without troubling them and helped her plant young trees in the spring. “When we care for nature, it cares for us,” he often said.
One summer, a company planned to cut down the forest to build factories. Emma knew this would destroy (破坏) the homes of many animals she had been watching and change her village forever so she decided to act.
First, she started an online activity to save the forest. Every day after school, she shared photos of the forest’s wildlife—deer drinking from streams, birds building homes in tall ancient trees, and special flowers that only grew there. Her photos touched many hearts. Soon, thousands of people saw her post and joined her. Many sent messages to local leaders, strongly asking them to protect the forest. At the same time, a science report explained how the forest’s deep roots held the soil (土) together and protected the village from floods during heavy rain. This showed everyone that the forest was not only beautiful but also very useful for people’s safety.

As society and technology change, many jobs have disappeared while new ones have appeared. Let’s take a look at some of these interesting changes.
In the past, there were lamplighters (点灯人). These workers went around cities every evening to light street lamps. Before electricity became common, lamplighters made sure people could walk safely at night. But when electric lights were invented, their role was no longer needed. Another job from history is the chimney (烟囱) sweep. They keep chimneys clean, but modern technology has made this job less common.
However, new jobs are created all the time. For example, many companies need social media managers today. They help businesses use social platforms (平台) to reach more customers. Also, with the rise of online shopping, delivery (快递) drivers have become very important. They make sure packages (包裹) are delivered to our doors quickly.
In the future, even more new jobs will appear. For example, as more people use electric cars, there will be a growing need for workers who repair (修理) these vehicles. And because of climate change, jobs in clean energy, like wind turbine (风力涡轮机) technicians, will probably become popular.
These changes show that the world of work is always developing. Old jobs disappear, and new ones take their place. Who knows what kinds of jobs we’ll have in the future
52. When did lamplighters work in the past
A.In the morning. B.At noon. C.In the afternoon. D.In the evening.
53. What do social media managers do
A.They take photos for children.
B.They look for packages of customers.
C.They help businesses to reach more customers.
D.They help more people to play online games.
54. What does the underlined word “vehicles” mean in the text
A.插座 B.汽车(交通工具) C.窗帘 D.衣架
55. What kind of new jobs will probably be needed in the future
A.Scientists who make robots. B.Workers who repair electric cars.
C.Technicians who repair lamps. D.People who make trucks.
56. Which job is NOT mentioned in the passage

Curiosity leads humans to explore the unknown.
On 23 January 1960, Jacques Piccard did an amazing thing. He went down to the Mariana Trench (马里亚纳海沟) in the Pacific Ocean. He was in a special ship named Trieste with a US officer. Soon after they dived, they lost sight of light, and the water became cold. When they went deeper to about 9,000 metres under the water, something scary (可怕的) happened. Because of the huge pressure, the ship made a loud noise and started to shake. However, they kept going down. Finally, they reached the seafloor and it was 10,916 metres deep.
This dive changed our understanding of the deep sea. Just before they landed on the seafloor, Jacques looked out of the window and saw some living creatures (生物). He was very excited, because people thought that no life could live in such deep water. It helped people understand the deep sea better and care more about protecting the ocean. Later, people made global rules to stop throwing waste into the ocean.

书面表达范文
Dear Amy,
I’m writing to tell you something that happened between my mom and me. I have a deep passion for painting, but my mom once considered it a waste of time and couldn’t understand me. I felt really sad and chose to communicate with her calmly. I explained that painting brought me great happiness and promised to balance my study and hobby well. At last, she understood my love for art and we made a reasonable schedule for study and painting together. I believe sincere communication can bridge the gap between family members.
Yours,
Li Hua
