一、完形填空
阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选择最佳选项。
Did you know that vocabulary (词汇) is more important than grammar If you have a wide vocabulary, you can communicate successfully 1 the grammar is not perfect.
However, one 2 problem is learning new words and then forgetting them. So when you want to use a new word in a conversation, you can’t remember it at that moment. Why does this often happen The main 3 is that most students learn vocabulary by studying lists and dictionaries and remembering the words. But it may not 4 if you don’t have a very good memory.
The best way to learn vocabulary and remember the words well is to learn new words and use them 5 . You can do this with a very easy exercise. Every time you learn a new word, for example, from an English lesson or an article, write it down in your vocabulary notebook. Writing is more active than 6 reading its meaning. You should write the word, the meaning in English or translation, one example sentence from the article or dictionary and one example sentence that you create.
7 you just learn the word “generous”. Write in your vocabulary notebook: generous (adjective), meaning—giving or willing to give freely. Example one, from the article: Thanks for paying for my dinner; you’re very generous. Example two, my example: My brother is generous as he volunteers at the animal shelter on weekends. If your example sentences have 8 to do with your own life, it’s especially good. That can create a 9 connection with the new word. This way, you will remember the word much longer and more easily.
The next day, 10 your vocabulary notebook again and try to add one more example sentence with the new word. It’s helpful for you to remember it. These two easy steps—writing the word and using it right now—help you remember and use the new word.
Do you have a vocabulary notebook If not, start now.

二、阅读理解
Today’s topic: Do we need spring and autumn holidays
I hope that our city will set up spring and autumn holidays. My reasons are as follows: First, these extra breaks would help us relieve (缓解) stress. We can relax and play sports. When we return to school, we’ll be smarter and healthier. Second, stepping out of the classroom often helps us be more creative. Visiting a museum or going for a walk with a camera can open our eyes. We’ll bring fresh ideas back into the classroom. Third, these breaks bring families closer together. Whether we travel with our parents or attend a family gathering, the shared memories will make our family ties stronger.
I think these breaks are unnecessary. Most schools finish their lessons right before finals. Adding more breaks means schools have to adjust (调整) their teaching plans. Some learning materials may be covered poorly. Otherwise, schools would need to extend (延长) regular school hours. This will leave students and teachers more tired. Parents, too, may face problems. They may need to take time off work to care for children. This is easier said than done. If children are left alone at home, they may waste their time instead of enjoying a meaningful break.
I strongly support adding spring and autumn breaks. Three days off each term won’t influence the academic (学术的) progress. These short breaks can improve learning efficiency (效率). Research shows that a little rest works wonders for memory. Some parents worry that they are busy with work and won’t have time to look after their children during these breaks. But schools can step in and organize special activities or even short trips. These breaks aren’t a waste of time. Instead, they are smarter use of time. They’ll help us live healthier lives and hit the books with fresh energy.
11.What does Su Ning think of family time during the breaks
A.It helps parents work more smoothly. B.It can lead to more homework.
C.It can make families spend less money. D.It makes family members closer.
12.According to Lin Tao, what will happen if schools add new breaks
A.Teachers will have more spare time.
B.Schools may teach some parts too quickly.
C.Parents might not afford these holiday trips.
D.Students will study better and be more creative.
13.About the breaks, in which way do Su Ning and Zhang Ke both agree
A.They help students learn better. B.They make parents feel stressed.
C.They make teaching time shorter. D.They help students develop life skills.
14.What is the passage mainly about
A.Problems that spring holidays may cause.
B.Ways for students to relax during holidays.
C.Different ideas on spring and autumn breaks.
D.The importance of school holidays for students.
三、任务型阅读
阅读下面短文,根据要求完成下列各题。
Many teenagers today spend too much time on their smartphones. A recent survey conducted in several Chinese cities shows that the average teenager spends more than six hours a day on their phone. This has raised concerns among parents, teachers, and health experts.
Excessive phone use can cause various problems. First, it can lead to eye strain and poor eyesight. Second, it reduces the time for physical activities, which may result in health issues like obesity. Third, it affects students’ academic performance because they lose focus on their studies. Finally, too much screen time can harm social skills, as teenagers may prefer chatting online to meeting friends in person.
However, phones themselves are not the enemy. They are useful tools for learning, communication, and entertainment. The key is to use them wisely. Experts suggest that teenagers set a daily time limit for phone use. They also recommend taking regular breaks from screens every hour. Engaging in outdoor activities, reading books, and playing sports are good alternatives.
Parents can also help by setting a good example. If parents spend less time on their own phones, children are more likely to follow. Many families have started a “no phones at dinner” rule, which encourages real conversations among family members.
To sum up, smartphones are here to stay. Whether they become a blessing or a curse depends on how we use them. With self-discipline and family support, teenagers can enjoy the benefits of technology without falling into its traps.
