He read many movie magazines to learn about it and to find out how special effects were created.Inspired by the works of Steven Spielberg, Abrams began making his own films when he was 12.

Brain-computer interface (BCI) is a new and promising technology that builds a direct communication bridge between the human brain and external electronic devices. Unlike traditional control ways that depend on hands or voices, this technology allows people to send orders simply through their brain waves, which greatly breaks the limit of human physical movement.
In recent years, rapid technological advances have made BCI no longer a distant science fiction concept. Researchers in many countries have carried out plenty of practical experiments and achieved encouraging results. For patients who suffer from serious nerve damage, such as spinal cord injuries or stroke after effects, daily actions like eating and walking have become impossible. With the help of BCI equipment, these disabled people can regain basic living abilities. They can control artificial limbs to pick up goods or operate wheelchairs freely just by thinking.
Apart from medical treatment, BCI also shows huge potential in daily life and scientific research. In smart laboratories, scientists use BCI to record and analyze human brain activities when people learn new skills. This helps them better understand the rules of brain memory and learning, which can provide useful guidance for education and training. Besides, some high-tech companies are trying to apply BCI to smart wearable devices, aiming to make human interaction with machines more convenient and efficient.
However, this emerging technology still faces unavoidable challenges. First, the accuracy of brain wave recognition needs to be improved. Human brain signals are complex and changeable, and slight mental mood changes may cause wrong judgments of the equipment. Second. safety and privacy problems have aroused wide public concern. Long-term wearing of BCI devices may bring unknown influences on brain health. What’s more. brain waves carry personal inner thoughts and emotional states, so improper data collection may lead to privacy leakage.
Experts point out that BCI is still in its early stage of development. It cannot replace traditional operation methods in a short time. But with continuous technological improvement and strict industry rules, BCI will surely create more value for medical care, scientific research and people’s future life.
61. What is the main advantage of BCI technology compared with traditional ways
A. It costs less money
B. It needs no physical movement
C. It works without electronic devices
D. It avoids all human mistakes
62. What can we learn about BCI from Paragraph 2
A. It has cured many stroke patients completely
B. It helps disabled patients recover basic living skills.
C. It has been widely used in ordinary families.
D. It can prevent nerve damage effectively.
63. What does the underlined word “leakage” in Paragraph 4 probably mean (no more than 2 words)
A. protection B. secret C. exposure D. change
64. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of BCI
A. disapproval B. negative C. indifferent D. positive
65. What can we know about brain-computer interfaces from the passage
A. They can only help disabled people walk freely.
B. They connect human brains directly with machines.
C. They have been widely used in all medical fields.
D. They may cause no risks to human health at all.
D
Should we focus on our goal, or on the process
What happened to Brenda Martinez, a US Olympic runner, may provide us with the answer. She lost her balance in the 800-meter run and failed to qualify for the Olympics. Instead of focusing on her failure, she prepared to win in the next race. “I just quickly let go of what happened in the 800m and got back to my routine, to focusing on all the little things I could do that would give me the best chance of running well later in the week,” she told New York Magazine. She said it was this mindset that led to her winning third place in the 1500-meter race about a week later to qualify for the Olympics in Rio. Instead of attaching herself to the goal of making the Olympic team, she concentrated on the process.
There is a problem with setting goals. Researchers from Harvard, the University of Pennsylvania and Northwestern found that overemphasizing goals based on measurable outcomes often leads to risk-taking, unethical (不道德的) behavior and reduced motivation. Their results were published in a Harvard Business School report titled Goals Gone Wild: The Systematic Side Effects of Over-Prescribing Goal Setting.
When you become overly focused on achieving the goal, you may lose sight of your original purpose for accomplishing the goal in the first place. Another danger is actually completing the goal without setting a plan for what’s next. For example some marathon runners experience what’s called the “post-race blues”. Achieving your goal may cause you to drop the good habits that got you there in the first place. Dieters often experience this in what’s called “yo-yo dieting” when they drop down to a desired weight, but then gain all the weight back when they resume (重新开始) their bad habits.
“After you set a goal, it’s best to shift your focus from the goal itself to the process that gives you the best chance of achieving it and to judge yourself based on how well you complete that process,” columnist Brad Stulberg wrote on the website The Cut.
Ultimately, changing your attention from goals to process will cause you to achieve little victories on your way to accomplishing long-term goals. Amy Cuddy, a Harvard Business School psychology professor, wrote that focusing on this process “leaves you with a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment, regardless of the measurable outcome”.
66. Why is Brenda Martinez’s experience mentioned in Paragraph 2
A. To show opportunity favors the prepared mind.
B. To describe how important it is to set big goals.
C. To suggest learning from failure can bring success.
D. To show how focusing on the process can lead to success.
67. According to Paragraph 3, overemphasizing goals could bring about ______.
A. the use of unfair means
B. ignoring the whole picture
C. overestimating the setbacks
D. being stressed by the risks involved
68. With the examples in Paragraph 4, the author intends to show that ______.
A. we can’t focus on the goal too much
B. we must keep in mind why we set the goal
C. we should resume our habits when completing the goal
D. we should accept it is normal to feel down after success
69. What are the last two paragraphs mainly about
A. Ways of judging a goal.
B. Ways to set long-term goals.
C. The best chance of achieving goals.
D. Benefits of focusing on the process.
70. The author supports his view ______.
A. by making a comparison
B. by reasoning with examples
C. by giving statistics
D. by doing an experiment

Kevin Beard is my class instructor. I was shocked when I arrived one day to find him standing in front of the room telling a story, with tears streaming down his cheeks. I was worried something had gone terribly wrong in his life, but as I listened to him talk, I heard him use words like “amazing” and “accomplishment.” I realized his tears weren’t out of sorrow, but happiness. Just a few days earlier, he’d received his GED (General Equivalency Diploma), at the age of 52.
Having dyslexia (阅读障碍), Kevin left school at a young age and then managed to support himself by taking odd jobs. In his mid-30s, Kevin finally landed an interview opportunity for a stable job: working for a sheriff’s department (治安部门). Amazingly, when he came clean with them about his education, they said they’d hire him as long as he got his GED. He agreed, optimistic about this new career potential, and kind of excited about giving school another chance.
Kevin studied with a tutor, and he did it for more than a decade, learning and practicing and correcting his mistakes, every free moment he had, often late into the night. It was a huge challenge, something Kevin compares to “climbing a mountain.” In fact, as Kevin took tests along the way, he did something interesting with each of his results. He posted them on his bedroom wall so that he could watch his progress. “I needed to see myself moving forward, and I wanted to speak,” he said.
Finally, he made it. “I can’t really describe what it’s like to finally achieve this,” he said. “I can hardly even put it into words. People are giving me graduation gifts! It’s a dream come true.”
This might sound like a perfect ending. But for Kevin, it’s a new beginning. He’s on a roll, and his next step is college. “Now that I’ve accomplished my GED, I’m hungry for education,” he said.
71. Why did Kevin cry in the classroom (No more than 10 words)

第二节 书面表达 范文
Dear Student Union,
I’m writing to apply to join the eye-care volunteer speech team for National Eye-Care Day on June 6.
I’m eager to take part for two reasons. First, I’ve learned much professional knowledge about eye protection and formed good eye habits myself. Besides, I’m good at oral English and public speaking, so I can deliver clear English speeches to my classmates.
As a volunteer, I plan to do the following work. I will make simple English leaflets about daily eye-care tips to hand out. During the speech, I’ll introduce bad habits that hurt eyes and share easy practical ways to protect eyes. I will also organize small Q&A activities to interact with listeners.
I sincerely hope I can get this chance. Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
