In January 2024, students were stopped from using smartphones in class by Dutch schools. A new study showed how this rule affected (影响) students.
The ban (禁令) worked differently. In primary schools, it had little effect because few students brought phones. But in high schools, it helped a lot. Most students became more focused (专注) and some got better grades. During breaks, they talked and played more instead of using phones. The ban also made schools safer, as students could not secretly take or share others’ photos.
However, a UK study of over 1,200 students found that simply banning phones did not greatly change study or behavior (行为). Still, it showed that too much phone and social media use could cause poor sleep, bad grades, and more behavior problems.
Experts say school phone bans are not enough. Schools should help students cut down their total screen time to improve study and life.
47. When did Dutch schools stop students from using smartphones in class
A.In 2024.
B.In 2023.
C.In 2022.
48. Why did the ban have little effect in primary schools
A.Because teachers didn’t carry out the ban at all.
B.Because few students brought phones to school.
C.Because primary school students didn’t obey the rule.
49. How did the ban make schools safer
A.By encouraging students to talk and play more.
B.By stopping students from using phones during class.
C.By preventing students from secretly taking or sharing photos.
50. Which of the following can be inferred (推断) from the passage
A.Experts believe that school bans are the only way to improve students’ life.
B.The UK study proved that phone bans are completely useless for all students.
C.High school students were more affected by the ban than primary school students.
51. What is the main idea of the passage
A.Dutch schools’ phone ban was a great success in all schools.
B.School phone bans have some benefits, but reducing total screen time is also needed.
C.A UK study found that phone bans have no influence on students’ behavior any more.
