As Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “a smooth sea never made a skilled sailor.” This
certainly applies to New York-born competitive sailor Cole Brauer, the first American
woman to competitively sail solo (独自) around the world. Her calm personality and rich
knowledge of the sport are the perfect recipe for success, as Brauer serves as a leading
figure in this industry. The 29-year-old began the Global Solo Challenge departing from
A Coruna, Spain, in October 2023. Finally, she made her way back to land in March
2024, aboard her boat named First Light. This competition is for sailors who desire a
challenge to sail around the sea, sharpening their skills with each wave they leave behind
them.
Throughout her months at sea, Brauer was not frightened by the wildly unpredictable
behaviors of Mother Nature. She worked tirelessly towards achieving her incredible
achievement. Along the way, the determined competitor recorded her 130-day journey at
sea on Instagram. In addition to documenting her experiences, Brauer also educated her
viewers on various sailing terms and the application of different sailing techniques. For
example, she references the term “reefing” the sail. This means to lower your sail to
accommodate increases in wind, allowing the boat to maintain a manageable speed that
allows its captain to have more controlled steering (驾驶).
As a former student of the University of Hawaii, Brauer achieved many academic
and athletic achievements. From earning the 2017 Jack Bonham Award for academic and
athletic performance to being a part of the Intercollegiate Sailing Association Academic
All-American Team twice, she continued to raise the bar. And with this latest challenge,
Brauer had opportunities to improve her skills in the unique backdrop of the Pacific
Ocean.
As she sailed from Spain to South Africa and Australia, Brauer finally crossed the
Atlantic Ocean back to her starting point — A Coruna. Her dedicated spirit, enthusiasm
for life, and desire to inspire young women to pursue their dreams shone through her
expedition.
24. What’s the key to Brauer’s success
A. Her academic background and desire for success.
B. Her good luck and previous experience.
C. Her willingness to challenge and love for adventure.
D. Her calm personality and deep understanding of sailing.
25. What did Brauer do during the competition
A. She doubted her sailing skills occasionally.
西安中学 高二年级 英语试题 第 4页 共 12 页
B. She documented her sea journey on Instagram.
C. She predicted behaviors of Mother Nature successfully.
D. She controlled the speed based on viewers’ techniques.
26. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs
A. Brauer’s sailing skills were enhanced during the voyage.
B. The Atlantic Ocean was easy to sail through.
C. Brauer dropped out of the University of Hawaii.
D. Brauer had an average performance in academics.
27. Which of the following is the best title for the passage
A. The Global Solo Challenge: A Test for Brave Sailors
B. Sailing Techniques: How to Control a Boat in Strong Winds
C. Cole Brauer: The First American Woman to Sail Solo Around the World
D. From College Student to Academic All-American: Brauer’s Life Story

Australia is proud of a unique history that has been shaped by the diversity of her
inhabitants (居民 ). The three main elements that have been central to the creation of
Australia’s population composition are the diversity of her native population,
colonization by the British in the past and the extensive immigration from diverse
cultures.
Australia is home to the world’s cultures and inhabitants who can identify with
more than 270 ancestries (祖先). From the year 1945, the number of people who have
immigrated to Australia from different parts of the globe is approximately seven million.
The country considers the rich cultural diversity as its main strength which embodies its
national identity.
In 1975, there was the racial discrimination(歧 视 ) act, which meant that
discrimination in the country was against the law. Later in 1995, the act was extended to
ensure that any acts of racial hatred (仇恨 ) were against the law. To date, the act has
been used in ensuring that Australia sends a strong message on the collective
commitment to promoting racial equality and the significance of fairness for all.
On a range of measures, Australia is a multicultural success story. On educational
attainment, studies show that children of immigrants in Australia get better average
results than children of native-born Australians. This is significant because according to
西安中学 高二年级 英语试题 第 5页 共 12 页
research conducted by the OECD, the successful integration of immigrant students is an
important indicator of a country’s success in its education system and equity and broader
socially combinative policies.
The success in educational performance is mirrored in the broader economy of
Australia as it attracts a significant proportion of skilled migrants annually who have a
high labour market participation rate. In the year between 2016 and 2017, skilled
migrants accounted for 67.3 percent of the total immigration program outcome that year.
The net effect of a multiculturalism policy for Australia has been a brain gain for
Australia and this is expected to continue growing.
28. What is paragraph 1 mainly about
A. The history of Australia. B. The customs of Australia.
C. The character of Australians. D. The population structure of Australia.
29. What does the underlined word “embodies” in paragraph 2 mean
A. Maintains. B. Represents. C. Assesses. D. Predicts.
30. From which can we see Australia’s success in education
A. The higher educational standards.
B. The better overall grades of students.
C. The increasing number of immigrant children.
D. The better performance of immigrant children.
31. In which aspect does educational success benefit Australia
A. Bringing in more skilled migrants. B. Reforming the immigration policy.
C. Developing immigration programs. D. Making a booming labour market.
D
Given the astonishing potential of AI to transform our lives, we all need to take
action to deal with our AI-powered future, and this is where AI by Design: A Plan for
Living with Artificial Intelligence comes in. This absorbing new book by Catriona
Campbell is a practical roadmap addressing the challenges posed by the forthcoming AI
revolution (变革).
In the wrong hands, such a book could prove as complicated to process as the
computer code (代码 ) that powers AI but, thankfully, Campbell has more than two
decades’ professional experience translating the heady into the understandable. She
writes from the practical angle of a business person rather than as an academic, making
for a guide which is highly accessible and informative and which, by the close, will make
you feel almost as smart as AI.
As we soon come to learn from AI by Design, AI is already super-smart and will
become more capable, moving from the current generation of “narrow-AI” to Artificial

General Intelligence. From there, Campbell says, will come Artificial Dominant
Intelligence. This is why Campbell has set out to raise awareness of AI and its future
now—several decades before these developments are expected to take place. She says it
is essential that we keep control of artificial intelligence, or risk being sidelined and
perhaps even worse.
Campbell’s point is to wake up those responsible for AI—the technology companies
and world leaders—so they are on the same page as all the experts currently developing
it. She explains we are at a “tipping point” in history and must act now to prevent an
extinction-level event for humanity. We need to consider how we want our future with
AI to pan out. Such structured thinking, followed by global regulation, will enable us to
achieve greatness rather than our downfall.
AI will affect us all, and if you only read one book on the subject, this is it.
32. What does the phrase “In the wrong hands” in paragraph 2 probably mean
A. If read by someone poorly educated.
B. If reviewed by someone ill-intentioned.
C. If written by someone less competent.
D. If translated by someone unacademic.
33. What is a feature of AI by Design according to the text
A. It is packed with complex codes.
B. It adopts a down-to-earth writing style.
C. It provides step-by-step instructions.
D. It is intended for AI professionals.
34. What does Campbell urge people to do regarding AI development
A. Observe existing regulations on it.
B. Reconsider expert opinions about it.
C. Make joint efforts to keep it under control.
D. Learn from prior experience to slow it down.
35. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text
A. To recommend a book on AI. B. To give a brief account of AI history.
C. To clarify the definition of AI. D. To honor an outstanding AI expert..

How middle school students can shoulder family responsibilities
西安中学 高二年级 英语试题 第 7页 共 12 页
As middle school students, learning to take on family responsibilities is key to the
growth and fostering a harmonious home environment. Here are practical ways to
contribute meaningfully within the family.
Manage individual space and chores (琐事).
Start by maintaining your own space. Make your bed daily, organize your study area,
and keep your clothes tidy. These habits cultivate self-discipline (自律 ). 36
For example, wash dishes, take out the trash, or help with grocery lists. Every small
effort eases the family workload.
Develop effective communication skills.
37 Share your school experiences, joys, and concerns during meals or
family time. When disagreements arise, listen actively to others’ perspectives. For
example, if your parents limit your screen time, discuss your feelings calmly instead of
arguing. This approach resolves conflicts and deepens relationships.
38
When family members face difficulties, extend a helping fort a younger
sibling struggling with homework, or offer to run errands for busy parents. Simple acts
show your thoughtfulness and strengthen familial bonds.
Take charge of your growth.
Set clear study goals, complete assignments on time, and participate actively in
school activities. 39 Maintaining a healthy lifestyle — exercising regularly,
eating well, and getting enough sleep — also demonstrates self-management. By
handling your affairs independently, you reduce parental worries.
Always keep a grateful heart.
Finally, express gratitude often. On special occasions, create handmade cards or
prepare simple meals for your family. 40 These gestures of appreciation make
your loved ones feel valued and reinforce the importance of family connections.
A. Prioritize school grades.
B. Be ready to provide help.
C. These small acts have a big impact.
D. Then, gradually take on shared household chores.
E. These show your commitment to self-improvement.
F. Open communication is the foundation of a strong family.
G. However, balancing study and leisure is equally important.

As a young photographer, I’d just finished a photo shoot out in the countryside. I had
shot rolls of films featuring beautiful scenery and scenes of daily life in the countryside.
What a fulfilling day! Now what I needed was a hot bath and a good rest. 1 couldn’t wait
to return home. On the country road, with my camera bag containing my equipment and
a phonebook on my back, I rode my motorbike so merrily that all the tiredness
disappeared instantly. Suddenly, a big rock hit me from nowhere. All I knew was I was
no longer on my motorbike.
I was thrown away from my bike and hit the road. Before I lost consciousness, I saw
all my things scattered (分散的) , my helmet (头盔) lying at a distance. Hours, maybe
days later, I opened my eyes. I realized I was on a hospital bed and later learnt that I had
been shifted to the ward (病房) after 7 days in the ICU. The crash was so severe that my

head had been injured seriously, leading to other terrible conditions. Although I survived,
there were a series of surgeries needed before I could fully recover — a reconstruction
of the knees, my broken right wrist to be fixed and an operation on my nose.
I had no relatives in Delhi as I lived alone. After my accident, some warm-hearted
strangers donated blood and resources to help me survive, which made me really touched.
But every time I tried to piece together that horrible Tuesday, I felt like there remained
some missing puzzles. Who discovered and saved me How was I sent to the hospital
Where can I find my hero Such questions bothered me until one day Amy, my friend,
who was the first to learn of my accident came to see me when visits were allowed.

I’m Li Hua, a local high school student. Learning from a website that the Shaanxi
History Museum is recruiting English docents for the summer vacation, I’m writing to
apply for this volunteer position.
First of all, I have a good command of oral English, enabling me to communicate
smoothly with foreign visitors. Besides, I am deeply interested in Chinese history and
have rich relevant knowledge about Shaanxi’s historical relics. What’s more, I have rich
volunteer experience in serving visitors and introducing cultural knowledge, which
makes me familiar with volunteer work.

第二节 读后续写(20分)
In the ward, she told me what had happened. Amy explained that a kind couple had
been driving back home when they saw me lying on the road. They immediately
stopped their car and called for an ambulance. Noticing my severe injuries, they stayed
with me, trying to keep me conscious until help arrived. They also gathered all my
scattered belongings, including my camera bag and the phonebook. It was from the
phonebook that they found Amy’s number and contacted her. Before leaving, they left
their phone number with the staff, hoping someone would contact them about my
condition.
I dialed the couple’s number immediately, hoping to thank them in person. An
elderly woman answered, and when I introduced myself, her voice broke with relief.
She told me how worried they had been and that they had called the hospital several
times to ask about my condition. I struggled to find words strong enough to express my
gratitude. She simply said they were glad I was alive and recovering. We agreed that I
would visit them once I was discharged. After hanging up, I held the phone for a long
moment. Their kindness, like a beam of light in the darkness, had not only saved my life
but also restored my faith in humanity.

W: Yes, I am. I’d like to do some sports and my father told me to try something new,
but I don’t know what.
M: Well, let’s think of some ideas to help you choose.
Text 5 谈论电影
W: What did you watch on TV last night
M: The Last Chance. It is set in a Californian Desert where a woman living without a

W: Do you love it
M: Certainly. I was greatly inspired after watching it.
Text 6 与教授谈话
M: Hi, Professor Mason. Do you have a minute
W: Yes, of course, Eric. And I think there is something I want to talk to you about, too.
M: You mean, my late essay
W: Yeah, that’s it. I haven’t seen it on my desk.
M: I thought I’d lost it.
W: Oh, no. I’m sorry to hear that.
M: Actually, it was my computer. I had my computer repaired yesterday, and all files
were missing. But fortunately, I sent it to you by email the day before yesterday.
W: Oh, I haven’t checked my emails yet. Well, I’m glad it’s there. I’ll read it this
weekend.

Text 8 担心演讲比赛
M: Hey, Marnie, are you OK You look kind of down.
W: Oh, hey, Dad. Well, there’s a speech contest at school next week and I’m in it. But I
know I won’t win.
M: Why do you say that
W: Because I’m competing against Laura. You know, she’s the best at everything.
M: Marnie, that’s not true. And I’ve read your speeches before. They’re really good.
W: Yeah, I try to write well. But I’m shy in front of a large group. Laura does
everything perfectly. When she heard we were competing, she even laughed!
M: Look, Laura is good but that doesn’t mean she’ll win. I’ll tell you again, Marnie,
you can write a good speech. And you can overcome your shyness, too. You just need to
practice a lot. Be patient, work hard, and you’ll do fine. I bet you’ll even win.
W: Yeah. Maybe you’re right. Thanks, Dad.
Text 9 存放行李
M: Good evening! Welcome to storage! What can I do for you, madam
W: Yeah. I want to have my baggage deposited.
M: OK. How many pieces of baggage do you have in all
W: Here they are. That’s all of it.
M: One, two … six, six pieces
W: Yes. By the way, there is a laptop in the black suitcase. Please handle with care!
M: Laptop Wait a minute, please. Sorry, madam. I’m afraid that digital products are
not allowed to be deposited. I think you have to take it with you. In fact, it’s the best
choice to protect your personal property.
W: That sounds reasonable. I’ll take your advice. Mm …what’s the price
M: It’s 8 dollars per hour for your two big suitcases, and 5 dollars per hour for the four
small ones.
W: I have some other baggage to check in. Where should I go
M: You can go to the office in the waiting room. It’s Room 213 on the 2nd floor.
W: Thank you. The boarding time is seven twenty. There is two hours left. I’ll get my
suitcases before that.
