Many people may throw away the pits (核) inside fruits after eating them, but inheritors (传承人) of nut carving have turned them into artworks instead.
Weifang nut carving goes back to the Qing Dynasty. During that time, an old craftsman named Wang Dayan spread the skill to the local people in Shandong Province. Craftsmen back then often used peach pits to show off their artistic skills. In 2008, Weifang nut carving was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产).
“One nut, from 0.8 to 6 centimeters long, can be made into earrings, buttons and so on,” said Tan Wanhai, an inheritor of Weifang nut carving. Tan has studied the art of nut carving for 25 years and has created many nut carvings.
However, the craftsman also said that bringing this kind of artwork to life is not easy. “Unlike some pits which have a flat surface, each peach pit has its own special texture (纹理) like human fingerprints,” Tan said, adding that craftsmen have to study each peach pit to carefully plan out their artworks.
Nut carving craftsmen also need to know many things. Thanks to their creative design and fresh ideas, Weifang nut carving artworks have been increasingly welcomed by people in China. More people are learning the art and have even become inheritors to pass down the skill to young people.
“Now, the number of inheritors is about 1,000. But I believe it could be bigger. More craftsmen now give up the tradition of passing down the skill only through the family and open it up to anyone who is interested in learning the skill,” said Tan.
69. From the passage, we can learn that a nut carving artwork is ________.
A.over 8 centimeters long

A.The cultural value of nut carving.
B.The difficulty craftsmen have.
C.The inheritor and his carving artworks.
D.The skills craftsmen have to master.
71. How did Tan feel about the future of nut carving
A.Surprised. B.Unclear. C.Doubtful. D.Hopeful.
72. What could be the best title for the passage
A.Carving artworks out of nuts
B.An amazing artwork in China
C.Tan’s nut carving achievements
D.The history of nut carving

Dear me,
How special it is to write to myself! In the last one year, I have read many interesting books, including Harry Potter. It is about a brave young boy and his friends' adventures at a magical school. From the book, I got to know something about bravery and friendship.
Besides, I have done a lot of volunteer work. In July, I went to the old people’s house and visited old people with my classmates. I cleaned the rooms and read stories for them. It was meaningful because volunteering can make the world a better place.
I’ve had my ups and downs, but I’ve always kept trying. Keep being curious and kind, and remember, every day is a new chance to learn and grow next year.
Love from
Li Hua
