学完本课后，学生能够
观看视频并提炼两名新生对高中生活的感受与规划；读懂校长演讲稿，梳理文章结构、段落主旨与细节信息；掌握senior, challenge, potential, effort等核心词汇、短语及固定搭配，理解并赏析演讲文中的句式与修辞。
学会运用略读、扫读等阅读技巧分析文本；结合文本内容思考高中生活的机遇与挑战，解读 “发挥潜能” 的内涵，结合自身情况制定个人成长计划，培养逻辑思维与独立思考能力。
理解中外名言蕴含的哲理，体会演讲稿传递的积极进取、持之以恒的精神内涵，树立正确的学习观与成长观。
主动参与课堂讨论、双人互动、答题训练等活动，乐于分享个人想法；养成梳理文本框架、积累词汇句型的良好学习习惯。
三、教学重难点
教学重点
看懂课堂视频内容，准确概括两位受访学生的心情、学习规划，能结合自身情况谈论高中生活。
梳理校长演讲稿的整体结构，掌握每一段落核心内容，熟练运用文中重点词汇、短语。
理解 “潜能” 的含义，掌握文中提及的发挥个人潜能的方法。
教学难点
深度赏析演讲稿的文体特征、修辞手法，体会演讲语言的感染力。.
结合文本哲理与自身实际，理性分析个人优势、不足，制定可行的自我提升计划。
理解并运用文中名言、排比句式，体会文本的情感与思想内涵。
四、教学方法
情景教学法：结合高一新生入学的真实场景创设语境，借助视频、问题讨论拉近学生与课堂主题的距离，激发表达欲望。
讲授法：讲解核心词汇、短语、语法搭配，分析文章结构、长难句与演讲文体特点，夯实语言基础。
任务型语言教学法：设置视频理解、阅读理解、选择题、问答、小组讨论等阶梯式任务，层层推进教学内容。
讨论法：组织双人对话、集体探讨，引导学生交流观点，深化对文本主题的理解。
五、教学准备
1. 教师准备：多媒体课件、课堂视频素材、演讲稿原文、随堂练习题、词汇学案。
2. 学生准备：预习单元新单词；提前思考自己对高中新生活的感受、遇到的困难以及未来学习规划。
六、教学过程
Step Ⅰ Lead-in
Activity 1: Warming-up questions
Show campus pictures for new senior high school students.
Put forward the question: How do you like the first day of your senior high school
Invite several students to share their feelings freely.
（设计意图：依托新生入学场景提问，贴合学生真实生活，快速活跃课堂氛围，自然引入本节课主题。）
Activity 2: Present famous saying
Show the famous saying from Confucius: Study without thinking leads to confusion; thinking without study ends in puzzlement.
Explain the Chinese meaning and guide students to understand the philosophy of study.
（设计意图：引入经典名言，渗透学习理念，同时拓展文化知识，为正文学习做好铺垫。）
Step Ⅱ Pre-viewing & Viewing
Activity 1: Watch the video and finish tasks
Introduce the theme: Senior high school is a time of learning and discovery.
Play the video and ask students to record key information:
Wendy: feels a bit nervous; plans to work harder in her studies and join the Art Club.
Stephen: feels very excited; plans to spend more time on English and Physics.
Check answers with the whole class.

Activity 2: Pair work & interview
Divide students into pairs and discuss two questions:
① What do you think of your new school life so far
② In what areas do you think you can do well In what areas will you have to work harder
Ask some pairs to act out short interviews in front of the class.
（设计意图：由视频内容过渡到学生自身，实现语言输出，锻炼口语表达能力，同时引导学生正视高中的优势与挑战。）
Step Ⅲ Pre-reading
Activity 1: Lead in the reading material
Tell students the following text is a speech given by the principal Mr Xu to new students.
Raise two guiding questions for prediction:
① How do you think senior high school will be different from junior high school
② What do you think the principal will talk about in his speech
Offer tips about study, daily life and psychology for reference.
Activity 2: Introduce the title
Explain the title Realizing your potential, and guide students to guess the main idea of the speech.
（设计意图：通过预测环节激活思维，引导学生结合自身经验预判文本内容，降低后续阅读难度。）
Step Ⅳ While-reading
Activity 1: Skim and get paragraph main ideas
Ask students to read the speech quickly and sum up the main idea of each paragraph.
Analyze each paragraph one by one:
Para.1: Greet students and point out senior high school is full of challenges and opportunities.
Para.2: Learn to turn challenges into opportunities with a positive attitude.
Para.3: Explain the definition of potential and its endless possibilities.
Para.4: Introduce external ways to realize potential — make the most of school resources.
Para.5: Introduce internal ways to realize potential — good habits, skills and positive attitude.
Para.6: Quote Lao-Tzu’s words and call on students to keep working hard.
Activity 2: Scan and answer detailed questions
Set targeted questions according to each paragraph and let students find answers:
① How can students turn challenges into opportunities
② What is potential according to the passage
③ What school resources can we make use of
④ What internal factors help us realize potential
⑤ What does the quote from Lao-Tzu mean
Invite students to share answers and correct mistakes
Activity 3: Analyze the text outline
Guide students to divide the passage into three parts: Opening, Body, Conclusion.
Sort out the logic of the whole speech:
Opening: Welcome new students and state the feature of senior high school.
Body: Explain potential and introduce ways to realize potential.
Conclusion: Encourage students to keep trying and take responsibility for themselves.
Activity 4: Multiple choice exercises
Students finish all multiple-choice questions independently based on the text.
Check answers and analyze the reasons for each option, explain difficult sentences.
（设计意图：由略读抓主旨、扫读找细节，再梳理文章框架、完成习题，由浅入深训练阅读技能，全面落实文本理解目标。）
Step Ⅴ Post-reading
Activity 1: Learn core vocabulary and phrases
Explain key words, phrases and collocations one by one: senior, challenge, potential, effort, advance, confidence, balance, equal, responsible.
Combine examples to illustrate usage, collocations and sentence patterns.
（设计意图：集中讲解重难点词汇，结合例句帮助学生理解与记忆，夯实语言基础知识。）
Activity 2: Word and sentence exercises
Students finish word transformation exercises and sentence completion exercises.
Check answers and explain key sentence structures.
（设计意图：及时巩固词汇与句型，强化知识点运用，查漏补缺。）
Activity 3: Group discussion
Discuss the topic: How will you realize your own potential in senior high school Encourage students to combine the text and personal situation to share ideas.
（设计意图：实现文本内容与现实生活的结合，深化主题理解，同时锻炼学生思辨与口头表达能力。）
Step Ⅵ Summary
Guide students to review the key points:
Information of the video: two students’ feelings and plans.
The structure and main idea of the principal’s speech.
Definition of potential and methods to realize potential.

九、教学反思
本节课围绕高中新生活与发掘个人潜能展开，依次开展视频观看、口语互动、文本阅读、词汇讲解、习题训练等活动，遵循 “输入—理解—输出” 的阅读课教学流程。多数学生能够掌握文章结构、核心词汇与主旨大意，也能结合自身情况参与讨论，基本达成预设教学目标。但教学中仍存在不足：
1. 部分基础薄弱学生对长难句理解较慢，在梳理文章逻辑框架时跟不上节奏，分层指导不足。；
2. 小组讨论环节，部分学生发言内容单一，难以结合文本观点进行拓展表达，思维活跃度有待提升；
3. 对演讲稿的文体特点、修辞赏析讲解较为浅显，学生未能充分体会演讲语言的魅力。
