学完本课后，学生能够
掌握故事类文本四要素（背景、人物、情节、主题）相关表达，能复述短文《Mama and her bank account》主要内容；理解戏剧基本构成要素，读懂舞台提示、人物对话等戏剧文本格式，学会简单英文短剧创作。
理解文中母亲善意的谎言背后深沉的母爱，体会家庭团结共渡难关的内涵；辩证看待 “善意的谎言”，学会理性思考亲子矛盾，树立尊重、理解家人的意识。
通过小组合作完成文本分析、话题讨论、剧本创编与表演任务，提升合作探究、口头表达与英文写作能力。

教学重点
梳理《Mama and her bank account》的背景、人物、情节与主题，熟练复述故事大意。
掌握英文短剧的四大构成要素：场景、人物、情节、主题，识别舞台提示与人物台词的书写规范。
积累亲子相处、家庭生活相关话题词汇与句型，完成课堂话题讨论。

四、教学方法
1. 情景教学法：创设家庭、亲子交流情景，结合自由讨论、问题问答引导学生融入课堂语境，激活已有生活经验。
2. 讲授法：讲解故事文本分析方法、戏剧要素及剧本书写规则，梳理核心知识点。
3. 任务型语言教学法：设计分层阅读任务、小组讨论任务、剧本创作与表演任务，让学生在完成任务过程中运用语言知识。

Present the question: What does a perfect home mean to you
Invite students to share ideas, and show the key expressions:

Activity 1: Predict the content
Ask students to look at the title Mama and her bank account.
Let students predict: What may the passage talk about according to the title

Step Ⅲ While-reading
Activity 1: Divide the passage and summarize main ideas
Work in pairs. Divide the whole story into four parts and match the main ideas:
Paras. 1-5: Mama used the money wisely, which ensured we didn’t have to go to the Bank.
Paras. 6-13: Family members make personal sacrifices to afford Nels’ schooling instead of using the bank account.
Paras. 14-15: Whatever happened, the bank remains the family’s spiritual backup.
Paras. 16-22: Mama reveals no real account exists, and the white lie is made to protect children from fear.
Check answers and explain key phrases.

Activity 2: Analyze story elements in pairs
Complete the information of the short story including Setting, Characters, Plot, Theme:
Setting: Early 1900s, a family’s home in San Francisco, America.
Characters: Mama, Papa and their four children (Katrin, Nels, Christine, Dagmar).
Plot: Mama creates a non-existent bank account to comfort kids. The whole family struggles together to cover various expenses without touching the “bank”. Years later, Katrin learns the truth of Mama’s white lie.
Theme: A mother’s selfless hidden love protects children’s sense of security; family unity helps overcome difficulties.

Activity 1: Topic discussion
Question 1: Do you agree with Mama’s white lie about the bank account Why
Guide students to express opinions and give reasons.
Reference answer: Yes. The fake account brought children a strong sense of security and courage. Without fear of poverty, the whole family united to overcome troubles. Her lie was filled with deep maternal love rather than bad intentions.
Question 2: What qualities of Mama can we learn from the story
Students discuss and share answers.
Reference answer: She is wise, considerate and full of love. She carefully arranges limited money and uses a smart lie to shelter her kids from anxiety about poor life.
Question 3: Is white lie always a good choice for parents to protect kids Why or why not
Encourage students to think dialectically.
Reference answer: Not always. White lies work for small protection, but too many lies may stop children from learning the truth of life and facing hardships properly.
Activity 2: Sharing
Question: Have your parents done something that has moved you greatly What was it Share your story.
Invite several students to share their own stories.

Activity 2: Choose play topics
Present the optional topics for the short play: friends, goals/dreams, hobbies, housework, personal habits, pocket money, schoolwork and so on.
Divide the class into groups. Each group picks one topic for their play.

Step Ⅱ Learn basic elements of a play
Activity 1: Learn four elements of a play
Explain the four basic elements clearly:
Setting: The time and place where the story happens (when & where).
Character: People or roles in the play who speak and act.
Plot: The whole story line: how the conflict appears, develops and gets solved (Start → conflict → solution).
Theme: The main idea or lesson the play wants to tell readers.

Activity 2: Analyze the sample play The Glass Menagerie
Watch the relevant video clip of The Glass Menagerie.
Fill in the table with group members:
Elements Details
Setting A small shabby apartment in St. Louis, America, in the 1930s.
Characters Amanda (a strict, controlling single mother), Laura (shy, fragile daughter fond of glass animal ornaments), Tom (the son).
Plot Amanda arranges Laura’s life blindly and forces her to find a suitor against Laura’s own will. Constant conflicts happen between mother and daughter because of different life choices and hobbies.
Theme Parents should respect children’s personality and personal choices; lack of communication leads to deep parent-child generation gap.

Step Ⅲ Learn play writing rules & practice
Activity 1: Learn writing formats
Introduce stage directions: Written in italics and brackets, showing time, place and characters’ actions.
Introduce dialogue: Write characters’ names before lines; add actions in brackets during dialogue.
Show the given play beginning as a model and analyze its format.

Activity 2: Group work: Write and prepare the short play
Each group discusses and designs their play’s setting, characters, plot and theme first.
Write the complete short play following the format rules.

九、教学反思
本节课围绕拓展阅读与短剧创作两大模块展开，流程贴合课件顺序，由文本分析到话题讨论，再到戏剧学习与创作，层层递进，大部分学生能够掌握故事与戏剧的四大核心要素，基本达成预设教学目标。但教学中仍存在不足：
1. 课堂思辨讨论环节中部分学生英文口头表达句式单一，词汇储备不足，输出能力有待加强；
2. 短剧创作环节，部分基础薄弱学生对舞台提示、对话格式掌握不熟练，构思情节也较为简单；
3. 小组排练与展示时间较为紧张。
